It is said that when five thousand monks gathered, others could not understand the profound meaning. However, the Lord of the World, Drigungpa, understood it in his heart like pouring out a full vase, and practiced it accordingly. Therefore, each of them knew that through practice, they could effortlessly pacify temporary and ultimate illnesses and obstacles, and attain all supreme and common virtues. Therefore, he directed all profound and vast teachings to this meaning, and the "Ten Dharmas and Three Dharmas" are precisely to reveal this key point, which is the great treasure of the Buddhas. The way is: As the scripture says, "Practice with Bodhicitta and the Yidam deity, the Guru and Mahamudra, and the Dharma of dedication." That is, the five: Bodhicitta, devotion, generation stage, completion stage, and dedication. The first two are common Mahayana practices, and the middle three are uncommon Vajrayana practices. Therefore, it is said in the scriptures: "Mahamudra is like a lion, without the five it is like a blind person." It means that the basis is the five poisons, at the time of the path, five special imprints appear, the five kinds of demonic obstacles are pacified, and the five realms of beings are tamed. At the time of the result, the five bodies and five wisdoms manifest. If one gains stability in these, everything will become Mahamudra, that is, the Bodhicitta without object, the deity body inseparable from appearance and emptiness, the play of the Guru of Samsara and Nirvana, the Mahamudra inseparable from awareness and emptiness, the dedication pure in the three spheres, etc., can be called Bodhicitta Mahamudra, deity body Mahamudra, devotion Mahamudra, reality Mahamudra, dedication Mahamudra, etc. These statements are reasonable and in accordance with reality, so it is widely known as the Five-fold Mahamudra. The Karmapas are skilled in introducing the three bodies, the Drukpa Kagyu are skilled in developing the eight great instructions, and the Rechungpas and others hold the oral transmission of the teachings. The root of everything is the Six Dharmas of Mahamudra. The future Buddha, the sixth Buddha, Lion's Roar, abides in the conduct of a Bodhisattva, the venerable Karmapa Rangjung Dorje, with the four key points of body, speech, and mind, turns the wheel of Dharma nature impartially, the miracles of accomplishment pervade all Buddha-fields, and are continuously shown in the past, present, and future. The root of all these Dharma doors is the individual.

For those of lesser capacity, he would train their minds with the four preliminary practices. For those of middling capacity, he would teach the four essential points: posture, vital energy, focus of mind, and physical exercises (trulkhor). He would also teach the yoga of blissful heat (tummo), the root of all four. For those of superior capacity, he would directly introduce the three kayas and lead them to the path of Mahamudra. This was symbolized as follows: In the lower chamber of Pullahari, the Nirmāṇakāya pours down an unobstructed rain, symbolizing the introduction to the Nirmāṇakāya in relation to relative bodhicitta. In the middle chamber of Pullahari, the Sambhogakāya is symbolized, representing the introduction to the Sambhogakāya in relation to vital energy. The introduction to the Dharmakāya, which is not symbolized and transcends words, is related to the essential point of innate self-abiding. This sequence of realizing Mahamudra, practicing the vast, self-arisen wisdom, is said to lead to the attainment of Vajradhara's state if meditated upon for just seven days at the time of death. Within the glorious Drukpa Kagyu tradition, the eight great instructions and eight lesser instructions of the Upper Drukpa, as well as the five perfections of the Lower Drukpa and the six cycles of the root Kagyu, are emphasized and explained. The basis for the widely known name "Glorious Drukpa" is that Chöje Tsangpa Gyarepa explained Mahamudra in three parts: words, instructions for practice, and blessings of realization. There are also six parts related to skillful means: the essential points of mixing and transferring the six dharmas, destroying conceptual thoughts, the generalities of entering and reversing, the Abhisamaya, the essential points of oral instructions, and the section on taking afflictions as the path to remove illness. Furthermore, there are the sealed treasury of equal taste, the mirror of mind, and the three hidden eye-openers of the secret treasury. He also opened the chariot path of dependent origination and profound devotion, explaining them in detail. The eight great instructions of the Upper Drukpa are: the instructions on profound devotion, the instructions on co-emergent union of Mahamudra, the instructions on special skillful means, the instructions on secret conduct and reversal meditation, and the instructions on pure vision and purification of realms.
