Ban Raspa divides the instructions for attaining supreme siddhi in this life and the bardo into two parts. Relying on the four dharmas of tummo, dream luminosity, and transference, diligent practitioners attain enlightenment in this life, while lazy ones use the bardo instructions to attain enlightenment in the bardo of existence. Je Gampopa said: "Enlightenment through meditation is tummo; enlightenment through taking illusion as the path is dream; enlightenment through taking deep sleep as the path is luminosity; enlightenment without meditation is transference." Transference has the component of entering a corpse. Dream and illusory body are combined into one, and bardo is also made a branch of it, summarized as six dharmas, or summarized as the four root dharmas. All subsequent followers unanimously consider the letters of hardship, etc., to be the thought of Naropa and his sons, and the words of Gampopa and others are regarded as supreme, becoming the four root dharmas and the two branch dharmas, that is, the six dharmas. The second part has three points: what is to be purified, what purifies, and their combination; the distinction of the four modes; and a detailed explanation of the meaning of meditation. The first point is: the four states to be purified are the path that purifies, the four root dharmas combined with the two branch dharmas. That is, in order to enable a single person with a connection to attain enlightenment in one lifetime and one body, it is necessary to purify the habitual stains of the four states to be purified and make them the path of the four kayas. Such a special instruction of the path that purifies is precisely these four dharmas of tummo, etc., and therefore it is placed as the root dharma. As the later edition of the Teachings says: "Sleep and dream, absorption and, the four states of ordinary time, the practice of these four times, should be known from the guru's mouth." Thus it is said. Bardo and transference are said to be branch dharmas, and combined with these two is the basis for the name of the Six Dharmas of Naropa. So, with what dharma are these four states purified? The Condensed Clarity of the Five Stages says: "Sleep and dream, absorption and, the four states of ordinary time, by the nature of the four chakras, channels and bindus, mind and consciousness." Taking the meaning of this, the lamas Rongpa and others said: "The king of the mind in ordinary time dwells in the navel chakra, in dream time in the throat chakra, in sleep time in the heart chakra, and in absorption time in the brow chakra." As it appears, the mind in ordinary time is in the navel chakra.

When in the (waking) state, the mind resides in the forehead. Its essence is having the concept of objects of various discriminations. That state is cultivated by the pith instructions of the illusory body, thereby making it a path to the Nirmanakaya. The ordinary time is the same as the time of awakening from other states, because it is not defiled by the other three states. When in the dream state, the mind resides in the throat. Its essence is having the appearance of existence and non-existence produced by wind. That state is cultivated by the pith instructions of dream, thereby making it a path to the Sambhogakaya. When in the deep sleep state, the mind resides in the heart. Its essence is being completely overwhelmed by darkness, having an appearance like fainting. That state is cultivated by the pith instructions of luminosity (Tibetan: འོད་གསལ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: प्रभास्वर,Sanskrit Romanization: prabhāsvara, Literal Chinese meaning: luminosity), thereby making it a path to the Dharmakaya. When in the state of orgasm, the mind resides in the crown of the head. Its essence is being tainted by the stain of desire that is difficult to reverse, having the concept of the union of two powers. That state is cultivated by the pith instructions of tummo (Tibetan: གཏུམ་མོ,Sanskrit Devanagari: चण्डाली,Sanskrit Romanization: caṇḍālī, Literal Chinese meaning: fierce woman), thereby making it a path to the body of great bliss. The so-called "fourth state among other states" is the same as the state of orgasm. In the state of transference of consciousness, it is described as the state of transference of consciousness, and also because of the power of the habit of transference of consciousness, desire arises, so there is no difference between them. Since it is the fourth state counted from the waking state, it is called the fourth state. Second is: The six dharmas of words and meanings, the two systems of sutra and tantra; general meaning, common and special, hidden meaning, experience and realization; ultimate, learning, conformity, non-learning reality. If these six dharmas are combined with the certainty of the distinction of the four ways, then first one must understand the six dharmas of words and meanings through hearing, namely: the bliss of wisdom that fiercely destroys afflictions; all phenomena of samsara and nirvana appear as merely illusory bodies; all phenomena that appear in illusion, although they appear, are not truly existent, exemplified by dreams; the reality of all phenomena is luminosity (Tibetan: འོད་གསལ་,Sanskrit Devanagari: प्रभास्वर,Sanskrit Romanization: prabhāsvara, Literal Chinese meaning: luminosity), free from all extremes of elaboration; being deluded by the illusion of dualistic appearance, wandering in the bardo between samsara and nirvana; the six transformations of the path that are continuously elevated by practicing the authentic Dharma of sutra and tantra. For each of these transformations, one must understand the two ways of combining it with the intention of the sutra and tantra scriptures. General meaning
