That which ascertains all three valid cognitions is the valid cognition of a yogi's own experience being recollected. The order of practicing these is as follows: First, one must practice the valid cognition of the guru. As the venerable one said: "First, make the guru a valid cognition, cultivate devotion and respect for the guru again and again." Then, one must practice as the guru has taught, which is the valid cognition of experience. Integrating these into the intention of the Lord of Yoga is the valid cognition of treatises. Among these, the most supreme valid cognition is integrating all valid cognitions into the intention of the Buddha, which is the valid cognition of scripture. The nature of the four valid cognitions is: having generated a special certainty within oneself, others cannot steal away one's faith. The way to cut proliferation with it is: From among the three tantras, in terms of the cause tantra, there are the afflictions that are the cause of the six realms, and the two fruits of the six realms. Furthermore, one should understand from the explanations of the texts the way in which all experiences of the path and the fruit are ascertained by the four valid cognitions. Fourth, the path shown as the four whispered lineages: Cut proliferation with the four whispered lineages. All the proliferations of pith instructions are cut by way of the four valid cognitions and the four whispered lineages just explained. The four whispered lineages that are spoken of are: the river of empowerment not being exhausted, the lineage of blessing not being diminished, the pith instructions not being reversed by old age, and the mind being satisfied by devotion, these are the four. The first of these four has three aspects: the river of empowerment not being exhausted in terms of the time of the cause, the time of the path, and the time of the result. The second is: being the nature of the four limits of secret mantra, namely, having the limit of practice, having the limit of experience, having the limit of blessing, and having the limit of accomplishment. The third is: when the constituents of the three ways of gathering are gathered, when experiences such as the appearance of obstacles like being struck by demons, and fear and terror arise, one should understand that even difficulties in traversing such as narrow bridges are also the path, as they are related to one's own path and dependent arising. The fourth is: when those experiences occur as the guru has shown that they will, a special certainty arises, and one engages in an undeluded perception of the guru as the Buddha. The way to cut proliferation with it is: the practice of the three tantras mentioned above must also possess the four whispered lineages; it is not sufficient if any one of the four is lacking.

Moreover, the key instructions of this system do not change completely, and these four also rely on the oral transmission of the previous gurus. This is explained in a way that is certain. Fifth, the path shown as five interdependent originations is: outer, inner, secret, suchness, and ultimate. The five interdependent originations demarcate the boundaries of the path. There are also five interdependent originations. The outer interdependent origination is: reverse winds and appearances, etc., which are the gross outer appearances. The inner interdependent origination is: the union of wind and mind in the palaces of the letters of the channels. The secret interdependent origination is: in the path beyond the world, the manifestation of the four mandalas, such as the realm and nectar mandalas, etc. The interdependent origination of suchness is: from the first bhumi onwards, the outer sign appears in the bindu, the inner sign appears in the wind, and the sign of suchness is that qualities appear in the mind. The ultimate interdependent origination is: in the thirteenth bhumi, the four gaits dissolve. The way these five demarcate the boundaries is: the first two interdependent originations demarcate the boundaries of the worldly path, and the latter three demarcate the boundaries of the transcendental path. Alternatively, the outer interdependent origination is the path of accumulation, the inner interdependent origination is the path of preparation, the secret interdependent origination is the path of seeing, the interdependent origination of suchness is the path of meditation, and the ultimate interdependent origination is the path of no more learning. Therefore, each of the five, such as the three appearances, shows a complete path to enlightenment, because each shows the common path of samsara and nirvana, along with the result. Moreover, combining all five also shows one complete path, because it is necessary to establish the basis of the path, the actual practice of the path, the cutting of the elaborations of the path, and the demarcation of the boundaries of the path, in order to show a person the path to enlightenment in sequence. Each of the five shows a complete path, but there is a need to show all five, because it is known that all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are established on the three appearances that appear in three different states. In order to know that all phenomena are contained in one continuous stream of one's own mind, there is the path of the three continuities. In order to quickly traverse the path by generating special certainty, there is the path of the four valid cognitions. A person's enlightenment is
