The intention is that the basis for classification is that the Kriya Tantras that mainly accomplish supreme siddhis are called Kriya Tantras, and the Kriya Tantras that mainly accomplish common siddhis are called Yoga Tantras, thus dividing them into two categories. Although both tantras are generally known as Ubhaya Tantra, here, the Yoga Tantra is considered both tantras because the inner samadhi yoga and the outer actions also become branches of samadhi, as stated by Śraddhā. This itself is considered both tantras, and the Anuttarayoga Tantra is called Yoga Tantra, thus making five categories. This classification is approved by masters such as Nāgārjuna. The Sakya Jetsunpas separate the Sutra-Yoga Tantra from the tantras, and its basis is set as sutras such as the Vaidurya Light Sutra, which explain the rituals related to dharanis. Furthermore, there are five

As it is said. The intention of this classification is: to separate most of the detailed rituals of making pills, eye medicine, etc. from the Kriya Tantra, and to make the Tantra of Discrimination in the Collection of All Discriminations, etc.; to make the Magical Net and the Lotus Dance Empowerment, etc., which have parts of both the Carya Tantra and the Yoga Tantra, as the Tantra of both; and to make the Father Tantra and the Mother Tantra as Maha Yoga and Anuttara Yoga, thus dividing them into seven. Among others, there are many internal subdivisions of these as well. Secondly, the detailed explanation of the method of dividing into four classes of tantras is: For the four types of beings to be tamed, the individuals, castes, faculties to be introduced, the objects to be tamed, the agents of taming, the circumstances, the times, etc., considering these and teaching, therefore it is generally accepted to be divided into four categories. Among these, the intention of dividing the four classes of tantras, which are commonly spoken of by the Vajra Acharyas of Tibet, is as follows: For the four types of beings to be tamed, namely: those who like many external activities such as bathing and cleansing; those who like only that (ultimate truth) and do not like many external activities; those who know that many external activities are distractions and are solely devoted to meditating on that (ultimate truth); those who enjoy everything from the nature of non-dual wisdom, these four types of individuals gradually become the objects to be tamed by the Kriya, Carya, Yoga, and Anuttara Yoga Tantras. In order to subdue the four types of beings who should be introduced to the wrong path, the four classes of tantras were taught in order to introduce them to the correct path by teaching the Dharma that is in accordance with their respective behaviors and doors. That is, in order to introduce those who are attached to desire, i.e., those who follow Ishvara, the Anuttara Yoga Tantra is taught; in order to introduce those who are hateful, i.e., those who follow Vishnu, the Carya Tantra is taught; in order to introduce those who are ignorant, i.e., those who follow Brahma, the Kriya Tantra is taught; if one encounters someone who is uncertain as to which of the above three they are, and who holds to those tenets, the Yoga Tantra is taught in order to introduce them. This is precisely the intention of the Compendium, as Nagarjuna and Sadaraksha and others believe. Considering the four castes or similar beings to be tamed, the four were also taught. That is, the ignorant

Brahmins who are greedy and practice the Dharma of Brahma, delighting in cleanliness, recitation, fire offerings, and the path of asceticism; Vaishyas who are arrogant and practice the Dharma of Asuras, delighting in the caste conduct of body, speech, and mind; Kshatriyas who practice the Dharma of gods, unable to endure asceticism, possessing great enjoyment of retinues and the like, delighting in ruling the kingdom with the seal of authority; Shudras who are lustful and wrathful, practicing the Dharma of union and liberation of Ishvara and the like, without distinction between clean and unclean, delighting in eating excrement and the like, engaging in various deeds despised by the world. For the sake of primarily subduing these disciples of the highest faculties, the Tantras such as the Kriya Tantra were taught. As it is said in the "Amazing Cemetery": "For the sake of taming Brahmins, Vaishyas, Kshatriyas, Shudras, and Chandalas, four types of Tantras are taught: Kriya, Charya, Yoga, and Anuttarayoga." Furthermore, as stated in the Vajra Tent Tantra: "The Kriya Tantra is taught for the dull-witted, the Charya Tantra for the middling, the Yoga Tantra for the sharp-witted, and the Anuttara Tantra for the extremely sharp-witted." Moreover, as stated in the "Lamp Illuminating the Excellent": "Considering those with slight and middling ignorance, the Kriya Tantra is taught. The Charya Tantra is taught for those with inferior ignorance. The Yoga Tantra is taught for those with inferior and intermediate attachment, hatred, and ignorance. The Yoga Father Tantra is for those with superior attachment, hatred, and ignorance. The Yoga Mother Tantra is taught for those with the most superior attachment, hatred, and ignorance." Here, the Yoga Father and Mother Tantras are one in Anuttarayoga, and the afflictions to be subdued are included within the extremely great afflictions, therefore it is determined to be four. The objects to be purified are also established as four in terms of the four types of grossness, namely the four attachments of the desire realm. As it is said in the Abhidharmakosha: "Embracing, holding hands, laughing, and gazing are sexual intercourse." Thus it is explained. This is the case with other gods of the desire realm.
