It is said that the manifestation of union (Tibetan: ཟུང་འཇུག་) requires reliance on the Anuttarayoga Tantra. Therefore, the statement that the path of Kriya Tantra (Tibetan: བྱ་རྒྱུད་) alone cannot lead to ultimate accomplishment is considered a provisional statement. Secondly, the classification of the Charya Tantra (Tibetan: སྤྱོད་པའི་རྒྱུད་) has seven aspects: meaning of the term and essence, classification, entry empowerment, vows and precepts to be protected, realization of the path, siddhis to be accomplished, and the order of bhumi, path, and fruition. First, the Charya Tantra is the tantra of equally employing action and samadhi. It is called the tantra of both or the Charya Tantra because it equally employs external bodily and verbal actions and internal mental samadhi, or because it emphasizes the conduct of an ascetic. The essence of this tantra is: In the Compendium (Tibetan: ཀུན་བཏུས་), it says: 'Through the extensive use of the mudras and characteristics of the object of focus of the Kriya Tantra, which performs various extensive activities, what is to be accomplished and what can be accomplished reside in the Charya Tantra.' As it is said, if this is explained, it means: through external bodily and verbal rituals, extensively using the mudras and characteristics of the object of focus, etc., mentioned in the Kriya Tantra, which performs various extensive activities, that is, through practice, what is to be accomplished is accomplished in accordance with the tantra itself; the samadhi of the inner mind accomplishes what can be accomplished in accordance with the Yoga Tantra, like the practice of a deity as a friend, resides in the Charya Tantra, that is, abides therein. Second, the classification is: three families. That is: there is a classification of three families of body, speech, and mind. Among them, the body family is the chief of the three families. The families of its deities are the same as the three transcendent families of the Kriya Tantra, respectively. It is also said that there is no contradiction in dividing them into five families. Third, the entry empowerment is: the five external entry empowerments such as water. That is, the Charya Tantra can be summarized into three: entry practice, practice, and accomplishment practice. Entry practice has two types: external entry and internal entry. External entry has two types: empowerment and vows. First, empowerment: In the Wisdom Drop (Tibetan: ཡེ་ཤེས་ཐིག་ལེ་), it says: 'Above the two empowerments of the Kriya Tantra, the vajra, bell, and name are very clear in the Charya Tantra.' As it is said, the Charya Tantra has five empowerments: water, crest jewel, vajra, bell, and name.

It is said that in the Abhisamayalankara, only the അനുജ്ഞാ (anujñā, permission) of water empowerment, collyrium, mirror, and Dharma teaching are mentioned, without detailed explanation. Although the empowerment of the crown, etc., is not clearly stated in its commentary, the five empowerments are clearly shown in the Vajrapani empowerment. Similar occurrences are found in some other texts. Therefore, according to this tradition, receiving the five empowerments of water, etc., one obtains the empowerment of the lineage's guru. For example, taking the Abhisamayalankara as an example, the vase empowerment purifies the defilements of the lower realms; the second empowerment washes away the seeds of samsara; the third empowerment creates the seeds of the two accumulations from the first to the tenth bhumis; the fourth empowerment establishes the seeds of the regent. The crown represents the bodily signs and marks; the bell represents the sixty branches of speech; the vajra represents the mind as it is; the name empowerment establishes the seeds of the name pervading the three realms. The അനുജ്ഞാ (anujñā, permission) of collyrium, mirror, and Dharma teaching, etc., are the അനുജ്ഞཱ (anujñā, permission) for benefiting others, which are the five wisdom empowerments. Although the names are similar to those of the higher tantras, the meanings are different. Here, empowerments are conferred in the mandalas of with-signs, without-signs, and extremely without-signs. In the with-signs, there are further distinctions between empowerment in the external colored powder mandala and empowerment in the internal body mandala, as explained in the Abhisamayalankara. In summary, they can be categorized into two empowerments: with-signs and without-signs, or external and internal. Fourth, the vows and precepts to be protected are: to uphold the vows, etc., that are free from obscurations in the three times. How are the vows and precepts held here? The Abhisamayalankara speaks of three occasions for holding them: at the time of preparation, at the time of entering the mandala, and after receiving the empowerment, holding them in the manner of making a commitment. The first, the vows free from obscurations in the three times, is as previously explained in the context of the Kriya Tantra: by offering one's body, one is considered to be the nature of the conventional Bodhicitta vow. The second, generating the ultimate Bodhicitta according to the ritual, blessing it with the mantra of the Dharmadhatu, and remembering emptiness; the appearance of that emptiness, blessed by the mantra of the Wheel of Dharma, is contemplated as the form of self-arisen Vajrasattva, which is profound and vast, or with-signs and without-signs.
