Now, we seek whether or not there are these three kinds of valid cognition that transcend. The reasoning of the nature of phenomena is that, for things like the heat of fire and the wetness of water, one believes in the nature of phenomena that is known in the world as their nature, as well as the inconceivable nature of phenomena, and the abiding nature of phenomena, and one does not contemplate other reasons for why it is so, but seeks in that way. Each of the completely purified dharmas from form to omniscience should also be distinguished and realized by these six kinds of seeking. Knowing the three aspects of meaning, suchness, and as-manyness. Combining and the actual, individually examining, gathering into the state of immovability. Thus, by establishing them as six, what the yogi should know is definitely three: the meaning of what is said, the knowable as-manyness, and suchness. Among these, from the perspective of the first, it is the first seeking. From the perspective of the second, it is the two seekings of the general and specific characteristics of things. From the perspective of the third, the remaining three and the seeking of the general characteristics are established. The four doors of higher seeing that were initially explained are three, and since the way of seeking is said to be six, the six seekings within the three doors are gathered into the previous four. Alternatively, higher seeing is twofold by the distinction of combining and the actual: at the time of combining, it is the higher seeing of individual examination, and at the time of the actual, it is the higher seeing of non-movement, so it is also gathered into two. Fourth, the way to meditate on that itself is: The way to meditate is to analyze the meaning of selflessness with wisdom, and then to rest evenly in freedom from elaboration. The object of analysis is the non-conceptual image, and by grasping the basis of distinction, one cuts off the imputation of distinctive qualities. If the view of selflessness has not been found, then no matter what method of meditation is done, it will deviate from the meaning of suchness, so it is necessary to find it. Even if there is an understanding of the view, if one does not meditate on it, it will not become meditation on suchness. Therefore, after individually analyzing the meaning of selflessness with wisdom, one rests evenly in the sphere free from all elaboration. Moreover, if the abiding part becomes small due to too much analytical meditation, then one should do more abiding meditation to restore the abiding part. If one does not like the essence of analysis due to too much abiding meditation, then one should also do analytical meditation, and it is said that meditating with both calm and insight equally will be very powerful. Here, for the meaning to be meditated upon, after analyzing with the wisdom of individual examination to the end, in the freedom from elaboration

To abide equally on the object (of focus) is the common rule of all schools, but in the actual process of cultivating equanimity, the Gelug school believes that the method of holding should be repeatedly emphasized. The actual method of cultivating insight is: When cultivating calm abiding earlier, many appearances that are the same or different from the external environment appear on the object of meditation, and these appearances are called non-discriminating images. When cultivating insight, those images that arise from the power of calm abiding are also used as the basis for separate observations for cultivation. It is only looking inward at the mind, not actually observing by focusing on the external environment. When observing those images that are the object of meditation, one must first focus on each dharma with separate wisdom, because without grasping the basis of what is relied upon, one cannot impose additions on the established attributes. Therefore, one must first clearly point out what the object to be eliminated is, and then observe it with correct discriminating wisdom, so as to determine that appearances are without self-nature. After that, without distraction, grasp that object of meditation, and realize that the object that is completely grasped is appearance without self-nature. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate meditation and wisdom into one, to become a union. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara, "Meditation and wisdom, and what is corresponding to it." This is its meaning. The self-nature of what is taken is known to be empty like the sky, the knowing consciousness that takes, the place of arising, shape, etc. should be observed, and the separation itself is also like rubbing wood to make fire, when it is not obtained, it disappears into the dharma realm, and abides in non-attachment. If one abides on form etc., one must also realize the self-nature of form etc. to be emptiness with discriminating wisdom and abide, not by focusing on the characteristics of form etc. After initially getting used to this, even the self-nature of what is taken is not available, and knowing it like emptiness in the center of the sky is the yoga of the unavailability of what is taken, that is, cultivating the inseparability of external appearance and emptiness. When a grasping consciousness like hatred arises in the mind, it must be clearly pointed out, and then with discriminating wisdom, first observe the cause of where it came from, where it exists in the middle, inside and outside, and where its essence, shape and color etc. exist.
