Physical fitness is when the body becomes capable of (virtuous actions). Similarly, when striving to abandon the mind's bad state—afflictions—the mind does not correspond to joy and attachment to virtuous objects, but enters unimpeded, and this is mental fitness. These two also have mental fitness's pliancy arising first, and through its power, the wind that is the cause of physical pliancy arising runs and pervades the body, thereby the body is freed from bad states, and physical pliancy arises, as stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi. Physical pliancy is also a very pleasing special tactile sensation within the body, and not a mental factor. The way these arise is that first there is very subtle and difficult-to-perceive pliancy, then coarse and easy-to-perceive pliancy, and then great bliss arises in which body and mind are controlled by ease. When it arises, one maintains equanimity towards the state of being proud because of joy, and through meditating in this way, at some point, with the power of pliancy arising like a shadow, one obtains śamatha-vipassanā, as stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi. The extent to which pliancy is perfected and śamatha-vipassanā is accomplished is that there are no obstacles of internal and external distractions, and the mind naturally abides on the object, remaining equally without sinking or excitement. In this way, after obtaining attention, the body and mind included in the aggregate of form, as well as the four—physical and mental pliancy and one-pointedness—obtain small power, and with the path of tranquility and coarseness, or having the aspect of truth, one is able to subdue afflictions, and when entering into samādhi, physical and mental pliancy arise quickly, and the five obscurations such as desire for desire and sleep mostly do not arise, and even when rising from samādhi, one will occasionally have physical and mental pliancy, as stated in the Śrāvakabhūmi, which is a sign of having attention. The bliss of physical and mental pliancy, as well as special appearances of particles and so on, and the ten signs such as the five objects of form and so on, and women born in the three times of past, present, and future, whichever appears, one does not discriminate, and with an experience like merging with the sky, in samādhi, no appearance of the body arises, the mind merges with the sky, and in post-meditation, experiences arise such as the body appearing as if suddenly arising, and so on. Secondly: It is the basis of all sūtras, tantras, and meditations, and suppresses all afflictions and suffering.

Rapjung. Thus, the ultimate state of tranquility achieved through thorough training is the basis for the arising or reliance of all meditations, both with and without characteristics, as taught in the Sutras and Tantras, just like fertile land for those who desire crops. Even just such a state of Samadhi can subdue and pacify all manifest afflictions and sufferings. Moreover, the realization of the true nature of selflessness as it is, also depends solely on abiding in equanimity (tranquility and insight). As stated in the "First Stage of Meditation": "A mind not abiding in equanimity cannot know things as they truly are. The Blessed One also said that by abiding in equanimity, one knows things as they truly are." As it is said. Secondly, the method of learning higher vision is explained in five parts: relying on the causes and conditions of higher vision, the distinctions of aspects, the order of entities, the method of meditating on it, and explaining the measure of accomplishment. The first is: Rely on the noble person for the causes and conditions of higher vision. Seek the view of contemplating the mind with much learning and proper attention. Moreover, in the Middle Stages of Meditation, it says: "What are the accumulations of higher vision? They are relying on a noble person, seeking much learning, and proper attention." As it is said. That is, relying on a wise person who thoroughly understands the meaning of the scriptures, listening to pure treatises, and generating a view that realizes it through the wisdom of hearing and thinking is an indispensable cause for higher vision. Because without a pure view, it is impossible to generate the realization of higher vision. Such a view must also be sought with a view that does not rely on provisional meaning but relies on definitive meaning. Therefore, one must know the difference between definitive and provisional meanings and understand the meaning of the profound scriptures of definitive meaning. Here, too, one should rely on the traditions of the two chariot-makers who have become authoritative and seek a view that realizes profound emptiness. The second distinction of aspects is: Aspects of peace and roughness, the views of outsiders. The Hearers and Self-Realizers view emptiness as having the aspect of truth. In the Perfection of Wisdom and Mantra, it is said to have the aspect of bliss. Common near-attainment is similar to worldly people. However, mantras and so on do not seek that meaning. That is, in terms of aspects, outsiders view the upper and lower grounds as having aspects of peace and roughness.
