The essence of all sentient beings and Buddhas is the Tathagatagarbha, distinct from the self of individuals and free from elaboration. It is inseparable from samsara and nirvana, liberated from mere selflessness, and transcends both appearance and non-appearance, as well as dependent origination. This Suchness or Tathagatagarbha pervades and abides equally in all dharmas, such as sentient beings and Buddhas. However, it abides as the essence in sentient beings and as manifest reality in Buddhas. It is also called the Buddha-nature because its essence is immutable. It is not the same as the self of an individual, which is permanent, singular, and independent, because it is free from the extremes of elaboration. Although in its own nature, samsara and nirvana are inseparable, it can be divided into three in relation to temporary states. It is liberated even from merely viewing the emptiness of the selflessness of individuals, and it is originally established as the single ultimate truth. Since it transcends both appearance and non-appearance, or both existence and non-existence, it is called unconditioned dharma, the unconditioned of ultimate truth. Since it is said that ultimate truth transcends dependent origination, ultimate truth is not established on dependent origination. It is empty of adventitious faults and full of unsurpassed dharmas. It cannot be removed or established, and it is realized by self-arisen wisdom. This essence is empty of all adventitious faults or defilements and not empty of unsurpassed qualities, so it is spontaneously accomplished and complete. In terms of essence, there is no removal of defilements or establishment of qualities. This is not realized merely by hearing and thinking in one direction, but it is said to be gradually realized by the self-knowing wisdom arising from meditation or by the stainless self-arisen wisdom. It is said that ordinary beings, shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, and first-stage Bodhisattvas are not able to see the Tathagatagarbha. Because it is not an object of inference and transcends words and thoughts, this principle is difficult for ordinary people to understand and becomes a matter of debate, so it is not discussed in detail here. This principle is extremely difficult to understand. In the commentary on the Uttaratantra, it is said: "In short, these four types of people are considered to lack the eyes to see the Tathagatagarbha." What are the four? They are ordinary beings, shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas who have newly entered the Mahayana. As the Bhagavan said:

It is said: "The essence of the departed is not the realm of those who fall into the view of the assembly of the world, nor of those who are manifestly delighted in perversion, nor of those whose minds are distracted by emptiness." Thus it is said. As it is said, not only we ordinary beings, but also the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and newly entered Mahayana Bodhisattvas, those who abide on the path of accumulation, are not able to see the Dharma-nature of the Tathagatagarbha, as the Mighty One and the Regent, etc., have clearly stated. Therefore, it is not an object to be measured by the measure of things entering by force, and by the words of speculation and reason, such as the knowledge that follows, because that reality has transcended the realm of words and speculation. Therefore, the essence of the heart as it is, is difficult for others to understand except for the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and in the realm of words and speculation, it seems to have contradictions. Therefore, in this era, those who are called Madhyamikas, who only know some speculation, who have little merit, and who do not have deep wisdom, in their appearance, the deeper the reality, the more it increases the basis of slander, and the four reliances are reversed, turning into a Dharma of contention. Therefore, the essential secrets of this school are not elaborated here, and if you want to understand, you should understand from the treatises of the great chariots of India and Tibet. Fifth, the instruction to understand the intention of the two chariots as one: After understanding the principles of the two chariot traditions separately, understanding the intention as one, one is freed from the fault of addition and subtraction. One becomes possessed of the stainless eye of viewing the sutras and tantras. The Buddha has given an infallible prophecy, and the great chariots that abide in the holy land, are undisputed, and adorn the world, namely Nagarjuna and Asanga, and their intentions, although there is no difference between superior and inferior. However, this appearance is due to one's own lack of merit and shallow wisdom. Therefore, one should understand that the principles of the two founders of the chariot traditions are also not mixed, and if one can understand that the ultimate intention of the two abides in the meaning of the one Madhyamaka, then one can be freed from many faults of addition and subtraction, and one can become possessed of the stainless eye of wisdom that views all the sutras and tantras. The two traditions
