Furthermore, if we gather the types, then all are definitely only negative reasons for negating the truth of what is to be refuted. Because if we follow logic, there is no possibility of establishing reasons. For example, like illusion, because it is dependent arising. Although this appears to be a directly shown establishing reason, in reality, it does not become a determining factor, and what is to be established is true emptiness. Negative reasons are divided into two: those without connection and those with contradictory determination. The reason of dependent arising is the latter, and the others are the former. Fifth, the correct explanation of the reasoning that examines ultimate truth: The key to all reasoning that examines ultimate truth is to grasp the basis of the distinction and seek what is not contradictory to the essence, and to seek and examine contradictory characteristics. Therefore, among all lines of reasoning, what can establish that both external objects and internal consciousness are without truth are mainly the negation of essence, the "freedom from one and many," and the negation of characteristics, the "four extremes of arising and ceasing." The other categories of reasoning in the Madhyamaka school are only branches of these. The root of all these lines of reasoning is like the praise of the Middle Way by the protector Nagarjuna: "Whatever arises dependently, is without cessation, without arising, without annihilation, without permanence, without coming, without going, without difference, without oneness, pacifies conceptual proliferation; I prostrate to that." As it is said, there are four types of fundamental reasoning. External and internal phenomena, the subject, will ultimately cease and will not remain in between, because they did not arise in the beginning. Also, these external and internal phenomena, the subject, are not established as different entities, because there is no oneness.

Furthermore. Again, these inner and outer phenomena, having the characteristic of being subject to change, do not come into existence, because their passing away has not been established. Again, these inner and outer phenomena, having the characteristic of being subject to change, do not cease, because they are not permanent. These four statements are the supreme fundamental reasons. Fourth, to ascertain the distinct systems of Madhyamaka, there are two: self-emptiness (rangtong) and other-emptiness (zhentong). The first is: In the Svatantrika system, one establishes that all phenomena are without inherent existence, abandoning attachment to it, thereby establishing emptiness. The Prasangika refutes elaborations but does not establish freedom from elaborations. The way in which these reasonings are examined and views are established is as follows: The Madhyamaka Svatantrikas first establish that all phenomena are without inherent existence. After that, knowing that the conceptualization of clinging to non-inherent existence should also be abandoned, they ascertain and establish that non-inherent existence or emptiness is emptiness itself. Thus, the wisdom that eliminates both extremes of existence and non-existence is not the ultimate view, because it is accompanied by conceptualization. Prasangikas refute the collection of elaborations with many kinds of reasoning, but they do not establish freedom from elaborations, because doing so would turn it into an incurable poison. The meaning of these has been mentioned somewhat above. The second is: The unique distinction of the Yogacara system is that they realize that there is nothing other than mind, and that mind itself does not exist, realizing the indivisibility of the two aspects of reality, the dharmadhatu, the seven vajra places. Among those who speak of the tenets of Madhyamaka, the Yogacara Madhyamikas, adorned with many unique secret points, establish their view through hearing and thinking in the following way: As Gyaltsab Je said: "Having realized with intelligence that there is nothing other than mind, then one realizes that mind itself does not exist. Those with intelligence realize that both do not exist, while those without it abide in the dharmadhatu." Thus, first, one determines that all phenomena are only mind and do not exist separately. Based on this, it is established that the apprehended is without inherent existence. Then, one determines that the apprehender is also without inherent existence, thereby establishing the emptiness dharmadhatu, which is the nature of stainless and luminous self-nature, endowed with the seven vajra places. Now, let us briefly mention the meaning ascertained through the wisdom arising from contemplation:
