Eighth, conditioned and unconditioned are: being apart from the three: arising, ceasing, and abiding. Ninth, transcendence of extremes is: being apart from the two extremes of permanence and annihilation, referring to emptiness, dependent origination, and the Middle Way. Tenth, without beginning or end is: samsara. Eleventh, without abandonment is: generally, abandonment refers to what should be abandoned, which is the name of faults. The absence of that is what should be taken, which is the name of the pure dharmas. Twelfth, self-nature is: the fact that all dharmas are empty in terms of their conventional nature, that itself is self-nature, because it is the ultimate nature of all dharmas. Although there is no difference in meaning between this and the object of emptiness in the fourth emptiness, they are explained separately in order to prevent clinging to emptiness and clinging to emptiness as self-nature. Thirteenth, all dharmas are: all conditioned and unconditioned dharmas. Fourteenth, what is called own-characteristic is: all the own-characteristics of the dharmas from form onwards up to omniscience. Fifteenth, what is called non-apprehension is: the three times, past, present, and future. As it is said: This present does not abide, and the past and future do not exist. It should be explained in this way, and it should not be explained that the meaning of non-apprehension is that they do not exist in relation to each other. Sixteenth, what is called the nature of non-entity is: an entity being empty of entity itself, that is, being empty of itself, is called the emptiness of the nature of non-entity. Having thus explained the sixteen distinctions with elaboration, the summary into the four distinctions without elaboration is: After the sixteen emptinesses have been explained in the two Prajnaparamita sutras, the extensive and the medium, again, Subhuti! Entity is empty of entity. Non-entity is empty of non-entity. Self-nature is empty of self-nature. Other-entity is empty of other-entity. Thus, the four emptinesses are spoken of. That is to say, if we summarize the objects of emptiness, they can be summarized into the two truths, conventional and ultimate. The conventional truth can be summarized into entity and non-entity. The ultimate truth has no difference in terms of essence, but in terms of negation

Self-nature and, other-entity, are said to be two. The knower that demonstrates this is also, the conventional dharmas have never existed since the beginning. Because it is not without it, but wisdom newly creates it, emptiness is declared to be the self-nature of all conventionalities. Even so, it is declared to be other-entity because it cannot be the object of knowledge and speech that have conventional objects. Then, why should it be made other-entity? In the commentary on Entering the Middle Way, three reasons are given: the nature of conventional things is not permanent, but this is the meaning of being permanent; conventional things are not to be realized by wisdom, but this is what it is to be realized by; convention does not transcend samsara, but this is the reason why it transcends it, and it is called other-entity. Third, the tradition of Madhyamaka Other-Emptiness is: The basis of negation is the perfectly established, the object of negation is the imputed and the other, by that emptiness the Yogic practitioners say, the fourteen distinctions are summarized into two. The basis of negation is the perfectly established reality, the suchness that transcends the realm of elaboration. The objects of negation are the two characteristics of the imputed and the dependent. The way of emptiness is that the two objects of negation make the basis of negation empty, so the perfectly established reality is empty of other. The Yogic practitioners, that is, those who hold the tradition of Other-Emptiness, say so. Here, the Golden-Colored Great Scholar said: The basis of what is empty is other-powered, that is, all consciousnesses that have the appearance of duality of grasper and grasped. The object of negation is the imputed, that is, divided into two by the difference of grasper and grasped. Moreover, on each of those, there are also the two of grasper and grasped that are based on the person and based on the dharma. How is the way of emptiness? The object of negation makes the basis of negation empty in the way of other-emptiness, but not in the way of self-emptiness, because the two of grasper and grasped of the object of negation, the imputed, are the other-nature relative to the two of the basis of negation, the dualistic consciousness, but not established as its own nature. Then, what is the own nature of the dualistic consciousness? It is the non-dual wisdom, experiencing the knowable, just the knowing and clear. Thus it is explained. In general, the non-duality of grasper and grasped

Wisdom is explained as the Dharmadhatu, and through the distinctions of the dharmas, the fourteen kinds of emptiness are extensively distinguished. If these meanings are summarized, it is considered that they can be summarized into two. The fourteen are: internal, external, and internal-external emptiness; great emptiness, the emptiness of emptiness itself; ultimate, conditioned, unconditioned; limitless, beginningless and endless; non-abandonment, self-nature emptiness; the emptiness of characteristic dharmas. And so on. Regarding this, the basis of emptiness is, from the Madhyantavibhāga: The eater and his body, and the basis of the place are emptiness. And also, who sees in what way? For what reason, that is also emptiness. This shows that emptiness is briefly explained without omission. The basis of these emptinesses, the dharmas, are the internal sense bases and the external sense bases, and the place of both of these, the body, and the container world that is the basis of these, these four are the dharmas, which are the conventional truth. The wisdom that directly realizes the emptiness of these four is the fifth and sixth emptiness basis dharmas, which is spoken of from the perspective of the ultimate truth. The emptiness basis dharmas of these six are established through the distinction of the two truths. The emptiness basis dharmas of the latter eight emptinesses are established from the perspective of need, as it is said: In order to obtain the two virtues, in order to constantly benefit sentient beings, in order not to make samsara empty, in order not to exhaust the roots of virtue, in order to purify the lineage, in order to obtain the marks and signs, in order to purify the Buddha's teachings, the Bodhisattva practices. So it is said. These are the emptiness basis dharmas of the latter eight emptinesses that have been identified, because these eight dharmas are practiced by the Bodhisattva. If one asks, for what need does one practice what? In order to obtain the ultimate conditioned and unconditioned two virtues, one practices the temporary conditioned and unconditioned two virtues. These two are the dharmas of conditioned and unconditioned emptiness. Similarly, combining, in order to need to benefit sentient beings, one practices the Middle Way, in order not to abandon sentient beings, one practices samsara, in order to inexhaustibly exhaust the roots of virtue, one practices the virtue of the nature of reality.
