If one affirms the existence of all the pure dharmas established by non-Buddhists, one will fall into the extreme of superimposition. Therefore, one should abandon these two extremes and, from the Middle Way, study the six perfections of conduct. The two extremes related to views are: Generally, if one affirms that all knowable things, and especially all conventional truths, exist, one will fall into the extreme of superimposition, because one is affirming existence without it being established by valid cognition. If one analyzes the conventional truth itself, which is established by valid cognition, with reasoning such as one and many, and affirms that it does not exist, one will fall into the extreme of nihilism, because one is affirming emptiness as the cause of the destruction of things. Therefore, one should abandon such two extremes and, from the Middle Way, sever elaboration with views. Second, there are three parts to explaining the tradition of the Middle Way: a general presentation of the recognition of emptiness, and a separate explanation of the traditions of self-emptiness and other-emptiness. The first part is: Its object of view is emptiness, the entity that negates the two selves and the non-affirming negation. The object of view of that Middle Way tradition is emptiness, and the meaning of the term emptiness is non-existence. What does not exist? The two selves. The term "ཉིད།" means the cause of things. According to the Yogacara school, the object to be negated, the wisdom of non-duality of grasper and grasped that negates the two selves, is explained as the only reality of ultimate truth. According to those who speak of self-emptiness, it is merely the non-affirming negation of the negation of the two selves. Second, self-emptiness is: The basis of emptiness is the dharmata, the object to be negated is the very basis of negation. The way of emptiness is the self-emptiness tradition, without inherent existence. The divisions are the sixteen emptinesses such as the emptiness of the internal and external. Things and non-things, self and other emptiness are included in four. Specifically, the basis of emptiness is the dharmata, that is, all the dharmas that exist among all knowable things. The object to be negated by what is empty is also the very basis of negation, in short, the two, the person and the dharma. The way of how it is empty is: whatever dharma is considered the object to be negated, everything is empty of its own essence. For example, form is empty of form, just as that itself is empty of that itself. When analyzed with the reasoning that investigates ultimate truth, that itself.

Because they are not established in themselves. For example, when analyzing whether a pot is established as one or many, it is like it is not established in the pot itself. In short, not to mention those things that cannot be objects of consciousness, all those dharmas that can be objects of consciousness are said to be empty of their own nature. As it is said in the *Madhyamakāvatāra*: Because its own nature is, therefore the eye is empty by the eye. Likewise, the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind should also be stated. The basis of emptiness is the dharma, which can be summarized into sixteen emptinesses such as internal and external emptiness. If summarized, it can include four types: things, non-things, self-nature, and other-nature. As it is said in the sutra: Subhuti, furthermore, this great vehicle of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is like this: internal emptiness, external emptiness, internal-external emptiness, emptiness of emptiness, great emptiness, ultimate emptiness, conditioned emptiness, unconditioned emptiness, emptiness beyond extremes, emptiness without beginning or end, emptiness without abandonment, self-nature emptiness, emptiness of all dharmas, self-characteristic emptiness, unobtainable emptiness, emptiness of the nature of non-things. Thus it is said. The first of these is the six internal sense bases such as the eye. The second is the six external sense bases such as form. The third is explained in terms of the internal and external sense bases just mentioned, and not in terms of the internal support of the senses. These explain the conventional dharmas as empty of conventional self-nature, and in order to prevent attachment to emptiness by it, therefore the fourth emptiness is declared, its dharma is the three emptinesses just mentioned. The necessity of declaring the fourth emptiness is to dispel the attachment that emptiness also exists or is. The fifth is called great because it pervades all sentient beings and the world of containers. The sixth is nirvana because the necessity of the ultimate is supreme. This also does not refer to nirvana with remainder or nirvana without remainder, but to either self-nature nirvana or non-abiding nirvana.
