Since it becomes the actual cause of arising, it is necessary to first establish the basis of view. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Even if a person with wrong views practices virtue, all the ripening will not be good." Therefore, the wrong view that is contrary to the correct view, along with all its parts, is the source of all faults and errors. With a mind that distinguishes through scripture and reasoning, one must first understand its nature, gain certainty, and then abandon it. That is, those who assert permanence and annihilation among the outsiders, as well as those who assert substantial existence within our own tradition, all have the fault of clinging to extremes. Therefore, the correct view is only the supreme Middle Way. Therefore, one must strive to seek and accept the profound and immaculate definitive meaning of the two chariot treatises, with impartial wisdom, and by increasing the power of virtue through the accumulation of merit, and by striving to seek and accept through the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating. Second, explaining how to generate the wisdom of realizing selflessness: Ignorance is the cause of the view of the aggregates of decay, the root of the four inversions is the antidote to self-grasping, generate the wisdom of realizing selflessness. Ignorance is the cause of the view of the aggregates of decay, because one does not fully understand that there is no self in the collection of aggregates, relying on a deluded mind, one is mistaken that there is a self, and thus the view of the aggregates of decay arises. This is a clear manifestation of grasping, while ignorance is an unclear manifestation without any distinction. Therefore, since the ways of manifestation and grasping of the two are contradictory, ignorance does not directly arise from it. However, due to the power of the seed of the habit of the inverted view of the aggregates of decay, ignorance arises. Moreover, the view of the aggregates of decay can be divided into three realms. The view of the aggregates of decay included in the desire realm is entirely unwholesome, while the view of the aggregates of decay included in the upper two realms is neutral. This view of the aggregates of decay is the same as the root of the four inversions—self-grasping. These four inversions are: taking the impure as pure, taking suffering as happiness, taking impermanence as permanence, and taking selflessness as self. The first three are accomplices of self-grasping, therefore.
