Because it is liberation, it cannot be said to be either one or different. As it is said, on the level of non-examination, merely in name, the two truths are the same in nature but different in characteristics, and in the ultimate sense, the essence cannot be said to be either one or different. If they were one, then children would also understand the ultimate truth like understanding the conventional truth, and thus they would be liberated without effort. If the conventional were the same as the ultimate, it would be the cause of complete purity, or if the ultimate were like the conventional, it would become the object of various distinctions and increasing all afflictions, which would lead to many faults. If they were different, then even if yogis realized the ultimate, they would not be able to abandon their attachment to the conventional, or the ultimate would become something that is not the nature of the conventional, which would lead to many harms. Therefore, the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* also says: "The aggregates realm and the nature of the ultimate are the nature of being free from one and different. Those who grasp the nature of one and different have entered incorrectly." So it is said. Fifth, the views of various schools: What is destroyed and refuted, the grasping of which can be abandoned or not, gross objects and streams of consciousness are conventional, indivisible is ultimate, this is the view of the Vaibhāṣika school. In general, all schools of philosophy acknowledge the classification of the two truths. The Śrāvakayāna school believes: "What is destroyed and refuted by wisdom, the wisdom of which does not accept, like a pot of water is conventional, the existence of the ultimate is different from this." This means that when something is destroyed by a hammer or the like, or when the dharma of matter is separated and refuted by wisdom, the wisdom does not accept it, and what can be abandoned is the pot and the water in it, which is conventional; destroying and refuting cannot abandon wisdom, and the ability to independently generate knowledge, grasping form and sound, etc., is ultimate. Both of these exist in their respective natures, which is considered to be true. In short, gross objects and streams of consciousness are conventional, and indivisible moments of consciousness and indivisible atoms of matter are considered by the Vaibhāṣikas to be the ultimate truth. The ultimate is capable of functioning or not, and self-characteristics and general characteristics are the views of the Sautrāntika school. The *Pramāṇavārttika* says: The ultimate is capable of functioning.
