The person endowed with virtue: To the authentic Guru, Receiving the Bodhicitta vow and empowerment, Protecting those commitments and knowing their characteristics, Disciplining the mind and pure conduct, These are the characteristics of the five rituals. Thus, the ritual of empowerment that ripens the unripe; the ritual of observing commitments that prevents the ripened from degenerating; the ritual of knowing the characteristics by hearing the tantras from the Guru; the ritual of disciplining the mind that accomplishes enlightenment; and the ritual of wholesome conduct, the means to perfect it, are summarized into five. The first is: the causal lineage, the nature of Bodhicitta which is without beginning or end, awakened by the six elements of the vajra body, a faultless vessel comprised of the aggregation of channels, bindus, and winds, which is the concordant cause; and through purification by practices such as approach, the faultless acts of constructing mandalas, practicing, and making offerings, which is the co-emergent cause; the five types of individuals suitable for empowerment, such as those resembling a lotus, are the causal conditions; the empowering master (Acarya) possessing the ten inner and outer realities and other characteristics, with perfect meditative absorption, is the dominant condition; the excellent collection of substances, mantras, mudras, and meditative absorption is the objective condition; and the subsequent empowerments, ripened gradually after the vase empowerment and other prior empowerments have opened the path, are the immediate conditions. Thus, by the assembly of two causes and four conditions, one obtains the entrance to the Mantrayana, which is empowerment. The second is: those explained in the individual teachings of the empowerment, life force, samaya, Kriya Tantra, Carya Tantra, and Yoga Tantra (folio 99b); and especially the excellent and well-kept commitments of the unsurpassed observance, vows, root and branch samaya, all of which are taught with ultimate, definitive, and implicit meaning, should be protected like one's life, in accordance with one's understanding. The third is: hearing the tantras of the expressive words from the Guru, and applying the four principles (or: four meanings), thereby thoroughly comprehending the tantras of the expressed meaning, and generating wisdom that prevents error in the practice of the path. The fourth is: the principal object of pursuit for practitioners entering the gate of Secret Mantra. It is the very essence of the seed-nature, the elemental basis, which is the immediate cause for bringing about the complete enlightenment that is the foundation for the perfect welfare of others and the perfect welfare of oneself, nourished by ripening agents; the co-emergent condition of.

Through the two stages of liberation, one can thoroughly uproot the three obscurations associated with the four temporary habitual patterns. For everything to become the path to Buddhahood, the view of realization is established as the foundation. In the three lower tantras, one diligently practices the yoga of the deity with characteristics and the yoga of reality without characteristics. In the unsurpassed tantra, one cultivates the three samadhis, the four limbs of approximation and accomplishment, the six limbs of clear realization, and so forth, through practicing the generation stage. One also performs extensive activities of a Vajra Acharya such as recitation, torma offerings, consecrations, fire pujas, and so on. Through the profound Vajra Yoga, which relies on the three aspects of the union of appearance and emptiness, self-blessing, and the mandala wheel, one cultivates the completion stage, thereby purifying the mind that is accompanied by habitual patterns. Fifth, for beginners, there is the conduct of Avadhuti (ཨ་བ་དྷཱུ་ཏི་) which is all-pervasive. For those who have attained yoga, there is the conduct of Samantabhadra (ཀུན་བཟང་). For those who have attained accomplishment, there is the conduct of Vijaya (ཕྱོགས་ལས་རྣམ་རྒྱལ་) victorious over all directions. Alternatively, by combining the conduct of desirous engagement and stable learning in an elaborated, non-elaborated, and extremely non-elaborated manner, and by improving through the two stages, one gradually transforms into four types of individuals (pudgalas). From this, clear appearance arises, and the three paths of accumulation are achieved, leading to common siddhis. When the wind and mind dissolve into the central channel, the unwavering wisdom of bliss-emptiness arises, which is the warmth of the path of preparation. When the mandala wheel continuously appears, and one attains the form free from conceptual thoughts, this is the peak stage. When the eighty innate conceptual thoughts cease to manifest, this is the stage of patience. One diligently cultivates the wisdom capable of entering the path of seeing, advancing to the supreme dharma stage. Thereafter, externally one traverses the great realms, and internally the movements of channels, winds, and drops dissolve into the central channel. From this, one attains the temporary result of the twelve bhumis. Through continuous close connection, one ultimately attains the ultimate result, the non-learning union of the Buddha-bhumi, the seven-limbed Vajradhara, the great inconceivable lord of secrets, who has attained the eternal and supreme state. These stages of the path, based on the three vows, are briefly explained for ease of understanding. A more detailed explanation will be provided later. 2. The second part, explaining the general meaning of the three vows, has three sections: 1. The number of those possessing one (vow), etc.; 2. The manner in which one individual possesses (the vows).
