Mind's gold and silver vessel. Broken and (98b) here, when associated with damage: Unmendable, mendable, and mended by one's own power. If one asks whether downfalls are mendable, the downfalls of the Śrāvaka (Hearer), when accompanied by concealment, are like a broken clay pot that cannot be mended. The vows of the Bodhisattva are like a broken gold or silver vessel that can still be mended with the effort of a goldsmith. In the context of the Tantric vehicle, it is likened to a damaged gold vessel that can even be repaired by one's own effort. Accordingly, (the states of) unmendable, mendable, and mended by one's own power are explained in the Tantras and scriptures. Action, substance, aspiration, and samādhi, that very nature; Through the great general purification, all become pure. The methods of restoration are also explained as five types in the general sūtras: First, fulfilling through action: through fire offerings (homa) and recitation, indicating and measuring one hundred thirty thousand for great downfalls. Second, fulfilling through substance: offering priceless, matching jewels to those of the five Buddha families' nature (such as actual Lamas of the five families, including those from various social strata, in accordance with the samayas of the five families, or by aspiring to them), without attachment. Third, fulfilling through aspiration: confessing with strong remorse due to eager faith. Fourth, fulfilling through samādhi: confessing through the four powers, meditating that one's own defilements and obscurations are purified by the light rays from the three places of the support (body, speech, mind). Furthermore, there is burning with the fire of samādhi, removing all darkness with the light rays of Bodhicitta, and washing with the water of magnificent conduct, and so forth. Fulfilling through suchness (Tathātā): From the Kun 'dus (Compendium [of Awareness]): "Knowing all karmic imprints of the mindstream to be without inherent nature through great wisdom." Thus, meditating on the wisdom that does not apprehend the three spheres (agent, action, object) is the supreme among all purifications of sin. Especially, relying on the instruction (99a) of the Great General Purification of Yoga, Naraka Dong Trug (Emptying of Hell): externally, through the accumulation of implements (offerings); internally, through the aggregates as the basis; secretly, the three (fulfillment and confession) of Bodhicitta performed on the full moon, new moon, and eighth day. It is said that all downfalls and impairments up to that point will be purified. Therefore, it is appropriate to undertake this vow. Here, to elaborate further, if one summarizes the stages of the path of Vajrayāna, the master Kelsang Dorje (Kalsang Dorje) said: "Auspicious time..."
