To be adopted. **The Five Things to Be Known:** All phenomena are primordially enlightened; thus, the five skandhas are the five Tathagata fathers, the five elements are the five mothers, the five sense faculties and five sense consciousnesses are the bodhisattvas, the five sense objects are the female bodhisattvas (consorts). All aggregates of thoughts in sets of five, such as the five colors, five families, five wisdoms, etc., are to be known as the mandala of body and wisdom by cutting through elaborations (or doubts) with prajna (wisdom). **The Five Things to Be Accomplished:** This refers to diligently striving in the method of properly accomplishing these five samayas (vows) to be known on one's own continuum, through the practice of realization and habituation. Among these, there is the samaya of view to be known. Having thus realized, there is the samaya of meditation to be practiced. As for the three types of conduct: to be practiced, not to be abandoned, and to be adopted, according to the provisional meaning, the samaya of conduct is paramount. Therefore, these too should be understood in equipoise according to their definitive meaning, and practiced without error in sequence, by considering the confidence of the view and intention, and the circumstances of place and time such as gatherings and solitude, and adopting the intention related to time. **The Twenty Samayas of Practice** are from the Bliss-Gathered Peaceful Tantra: "Do not destroy the throne of the king of beasts." And so forth, those indicated by symbols (or implied meanings): do not harm the vajra master's body and do not break their word/command; do not engage in improper conduct with the guru's consort/mother; do not break the assembly of devoted ones; do not appropriate the property of the Three Jewels and the learned, and do not drink alcohol to the point of intoxication; do not engage in improper conduct with the consort/mother of a vajra sibling; do not rely on a consort without the proper characteristics; do not rely on samaya substances (sacred substances) without the proper characteristics; do not disparage the qualities of the learned; do not teach secret dharma to unsuitable vessels; do not abandon a consort with the proper characteristics and a suitable disciple; do not separate from the meaning of bliss-emptiness and the symbolic father-mother (yab-yum); do not even jokingly fight within the sibling (vajra brother/sister) group; do not use the leftovers (or residues) of others' practices; do not usurp the guru's seat (or claim the guru's position); do not separate the boundaries of self and others; do not let concentration (samadhi) be dominated by sinking (drowsiness) or excitement; do not interrupt recitation and rituals with inappropriate words; do not transgress the mudras (hand gestures) of empowerment symbols, and do not forget the signs/symbols; do not disturb the yogi's mandala and do not reverse the spiritual power of beings; and upholding the master as the crown.

The vows not to be transgressed. Second, [distinguishing the specific systems] there are three: 1. Mahayoga; 2. Anuyoga; 3. Atiyoga systems. The first is: From the root of specific Mahayoga, the Guhyagarbha (Magical Illusion) Tantra: Root unsurpassed, not to be abandoned, revere the Guru. Mantras, seals not to be broken, vajra siblings loved, ten secrets. Not to be revealed are five; branch samayas are ten. Not to be abandoned, not to be forsaken are five; from those, Three hundred sixty, from that, endless proliferations. From the root Vajrasattva Guhyagarbha Tantra, the great eighteen tantra sections of specific Mahayoga, it is stated that the five (root samayas) are: the unsurpassed root not to be abandoned; revering the Guru with devotion; not breaking the three mantras and four mudras; loving the vajra siblings; and not revealing the ten secrets to others. The first (root samaya) is: realizing the ultimate and conventional bodhicitta as the supreme object, the two appearances and emptiness as indivisible, and thus not transgressing the mudras of the deity's body, speech, and mind of the three doors. The remaining four are as stated before. The ten branch samayas are: the five not to be abandoned are the five poisons; the five not to be forsaken are the five sacred substances (amrita). Dividing each of these five roots into two (means and wisdom) makes ten. Further dividing each of these five into thirty makes one hundred fifty. Together, that's one hundred sixty. Dividing each of the ten branch samayas into twenty makes two hundred. Combining the former and latter makes three hundred sixty (page 94b). These divisions also appear in detail in texts like *Phrag rgyas* (Elaborate Ornament) and others. Furthermore, to counteract as many conceptual thoughts as there are in the mind, there are likewise innumerable samayas proliferated, so they cannot be fully enumerated. From the Essence (Snying po): In the ten directions of the six realms, As many beings as there are in the three realms of existence, So many samayas are proliferated to subdue thoughts, Thus it states. Rongzom Pandita (Rongzom Chokyi Zangpo) holds that, compared to all four trainings of the lower Mahayana, (the unsurpassed samaya) is superior due to seven great aspects. Compared to the liberation vows of the Shravakas, the Bodhisattva vows are superior due to seven great aspects, such as the great aspiration. Rongzom Pandita also holds that, compared to all the training grounds of the Mahayana and lower tantra sections, the unsurpassed samaya is superior due to seven great aspects.
