These are the common general samayas. The root samayas are the three of body, speech, and mind, and the samaya of Bodhicitta. The branch samayas consist of five things to be practiced, five not to be abandoned, five to be accepted, five to be accomplished, and five to be known; these five sets of five, making twenty-five, are the special samayas. The twenty samayas that must be especially observed during phases such as approach and accomplishment (nyensgrub) are called the additional samayas. Among these, the root body samaya is to be guarded with respect to the Lama and Vajra siblings. As stated in "Gegpa Dorje Damtsig Salbkra": > General and guiding, samaya and empowerment, > Restoring transgressions and liberating the mind-stream, > The Gurus of oral instructions and scriptures. The example of how to honor these six types of Gurus is, in order, also from the same text: > Like a king ruling over a land, > An uncle, father, mother, and an eye, > Regard them with an exceptionally heartfelt manner. And, (92b) particularly, as stated in the Peaceful Tantra, the three Gurus who bestow empowerment, explain tantra, and give oral instructions should be honored by regarding them as superior to the Buddha, equal to the Buddha, or as the Fourth Jewel, by pleasing their minds without deception from the three doors (body, speech, mind) and by accomplishing whatever they command. Regarding Vajra siblings, there are four types: general, distant, close, and intimate siblings. Among these, the latter three siblings who have entered the correct path, and especially the intimate siblings, should be known to be particularly sensitive, and honored with love, never separating from them. The speech samaya, as stated in "Salbkra": > Root generation and action mantra, > Samaya action and Dharma, and > The four great mudras themselves. Therefore, regarding the three yuls (objects/fields), three mantras, and four mudras, the most diligent practitioners should maintain the practice continuously like a river flow. Medium practitioners should do so once a month, and even the least capable should ensure that the continuity of seasonal offerings throughout the year and month is not broken. The mind samaya comprises ten secrets, not to be disclosed to those without samaya, samaya breakers, or ordinary people. The ten secrets, as stated in "Salbkra": > Profound view and coarse conduct, > Deity's name, dharani, and signs of accomplishment, > These are the four general secrets. And: > Place, time, companions, and substances for accomplishment, > Should be kept secret and accomplished. As described above, in addition to the four general secrets, there are four more secrets, making eight in total. And the secret conduct of uncommon mantra practice and sacred substances that are suitable to be kept secret.

The unseemly behaviors of brothers/fellow practitioners, etc., that should not be seen or heard; and those entrusted secretly by the Guru and brothers/fellow practitioners, which have been sealed in secrecy. The samaya (oath/vow) of Bodhicitta is like the samaya of realizing the true nature that is beyond the sphere of activity, indivisible from the ultimate truth. Aspiring to the fruit that is manifest without abandonment or attainment (fol. 93a), and for the sake of accomplishing that, in accordance with the self-abiding wisdom, all appearances associated with the three doors (body, speech, mind) and their sphere of activity, do not depart from the mudra of the deity's body, speech, and mind. Therefore, whatever appears as pure appearance should be taken onto the path, and one should train the mind in this. The five branches to be practiced: In the literal sense, the five (actions) of union, liberation (killing), taking what is not given, false speech, and harsh speech, if, through skillful means, they are for the benefit of others and not for oneself, should be practiced. Hidden meaning: Cutting the life-force of grasping and grasped perceptions with self-aware wisdom; taking the queen's (ཤུ་ཀྲ་, शुक्र, śukra, semen) without being given; sexual conduct to accomplish immutable bliss from union; false speech that liberates beings from the appearance of non-existence of samsara; and harsh words that speak without concealment through the realization of the inexpressible. The five not to be abandoned: Even the five poisons (attachments, anger, ignorance, pride, jealousy) of wrong views, in their inherent nature, should not be abandoned as enemies like the Shravakas do. If they are embraced with skillful means and practiced, they become a swift path to liberation, because their intrinsic nature is originally the five wisdoms. The hidden meaning, the genuine five poisons: Since all phenomena are perfected in equality, ignorance is without bias in view and without discrimination of acceptance or rejection in conduct. Attachment arises from great compassion without object for those who have not realized this. Hatred that destroys wrong views through self-aware wisdom. Pride that does not allow the view of realizing equality to fall into a pit. Jealousy that does not accommodate dualistic perception and conduct within the expanse of equality. These are not abandoned through the means of realization and familiarization. The five to be joyfully accepted: The five (substances) of feces, urine, (རཀྟ་, रक्त, rakta, blood), (མཱཾ་ས་, मांस, māṃsa, flesh), and (རྡོ་རྗེ་ཟིལ་པ་, वज्रामृत, vajrāmṛta, vajra nectar/dew) are special substances accomplished by the nature of dharmata, their own essence, power, and blessings. Therefore, they should not be abandoned but joyfully accepted. Hidden meaning: By binding the essence of the five aggregates without leakage (fol. 93b), one should joyfully accept.
