English
First, relying on a consort who lacks the proper characteristics; this primarily applies to householder Vajradharas. Second, during a ganachakra feast, quarreling over seating and food, or causing disturbances during tantric practices such as mandala sadhana, offerings, fire pujas, consecrations, and so forth. Third, from a consort not mentioned in the tantras and who is despised, receiving the outer and inner samaya nectar. Fourth, when a faithful person requests instructions, not giving wealth, or withholding the teachings out of stinginess. Fifth, when others ask questions about the Dharma, not answering but instead joking or speaking idly; or when asked about tantra, teaching sutra Dharma instead (87na). Sixth, remaining for more than seven days among Shravakas (Hearers) who do not have faith in the Mahayana. Seventh, even without understanding the outer, inner, and other three modes of secret mantra and union yoga, merely knowing some external activities and generation stage, becoming conceited and proclaiming, “I am a mantra-holder, a Vajradhara.” Eighth, teaching elementary Dharma to disciples who are like precious jewels; teaching congregational Dharma to those who are like sandalwood; and to those who lack the proper vessel, when only common teachings should be expounded, instead acting contrary and revealing secret teachings. From the Vajrahrdayalankara Tantra, it states six: the first, second, fifth, sixth, eighth, and revealing secrets. Furthermore, various tantra collections mention different scattered precepts, making it difficult to definitively determine the exact number. The ways in which masters cite them also vary greatly, but what is taught here is from the Samaya Ocean (Damtsig Gyatso) according to the treatises of Manjushri Kirti. From the treatise of Nyingpo'i Zhabs: Lacking samaya, Delighting in relying on a consort; Quarreling in the ganachakra; To beings endowed with faith, Teaching other Dharma; Presuming to be a Shravaka, Staying among them for seven days; Not acting properly, Revealing secrets to the unworthy; To one unskilled in mudras, Showing physical mudras; Without proper approach, etc., Engaging in mandala activities; Transgressing the precepts of the two vows, Transgressing without need; These eight.
