Others desire it differently. Similarly, it is the abandonment of obscurations. As it states: The Bodhicitta obtained through faith in the paths of accumulation and preparation; the Bodhicitta with pure supreme aspiration on the seven impure Bodhisattva-grounds; the Bodhicitta fully ripened on the three pure Bodhisattva-grounds; and the Bodhicitta where obscurations are abandoned at the stage of Buddhahood – these are the four. Chapter 4: The fourth [classification based on supports] is: Twenty-two by means of supports such as earth, gold, moon, etc. Applying the three aspects of analogy, association, and phenomena to earth, gold, moon, and so on, if classified by support or ground, there are twenty-two. From the Abhisamayālaṅkāra: 'Indeed, earth, gold, moon, fire, treasure, source of jewels, ocean, vajra, mountain medicine, spiritual friend, wish-fulfilling gem, sun, nāga, king, treasury, great path, young, pure water, and by sound, reflection, river, clouds – these are the twenty-two forms.' The meaning represented by these twenty-two analogies is, in order: Aspiration, Intention, Supreme Intention, Application, The ten perfections from generosity to wisdom, Supernormal cognitions, The two accumulations, Qualities conducive to enlightenment, Calm abiding and insight, Dhāraṇī and eloquence, Joy of Dharma, The path of single progression, and Possessing the Dharma-kaya. From aspiration, like the earth, up to possessing the Dharma-kaya, like a cloud, these are applied. As for the Bodhisattva-grounds: The three, such as aspiration, are on the three paths of accumulation. Application is on the path of preparation. The ten perfections from generosity to wisdom are included in the ten grounds of seeing and meditation. The five from supernormal cognitions to dhāraṇī and eloquence are pervasive throughout all three pure grounds of the special path. The three, such as the joy of Dharma, are the ground of Buddhahood, the ground where Mahayana Arhats enter, and they exist in the three stages of preparation, actual realization, and subsequent attainment of the tenth ground. Thus, earth and so on are the analogies, aspiration and so on are the associations. That aspiration becomes the basis of all wholesome dharmas, thus it is analogous to earth in terms of phenomena. If we formulate it as an application: Bodhicitta, which is associated with the aspiration to seek enlightenment, is like the analogy of earth, because it acts as the fundamental entity for generating all wholesome dharmas. Therefore, one should understand how to apply this to all.

། ། \t\t\tThe fifth [classification from the perspective of the object] is: \t\t\tFrom the perspective of the object, conventional and ultimate natures. \t\t\tWhen classified from the perspective of the apprehended object, there are two natures: conventional and ultimate. \t\t\tThe former refers to the aspiration and application bodhicitta, and the latter, in reality, refers to the non-conceptual wisdom in the continuum of a noble being. The corresponding one also exists at the stage of a beginner practitioner. \t\t\tThe sixth [classification from the perspective of ritual] is: \t\t\tFrom the three rituals. \t\t\tIt means: When classified by ritual, there are three types: pratimoksha and common ritual bodhicitta vows; uncommon ritual bodhicitta vows (53 verso); and empowerment and common ritual bodhicitta vows. \t\t\tThe first is: the Mahayana pratimoksha vows as explained in the context of Shravaka vows. \t\t\tThe second is: like the aspiration and application vows obtained through a ritual of either Madhyamaka or Chittamatra. \t\t\tThe third is: like the bodhicitta vows obtained during the preliminary stage of empowerment, and the tantric vows obtained during the main stage. \t\t\tFourth, the fourth main point: explaining the traditions of individual vehicles, has two parts: 1. General explanation. 2. Detailed differentiation. \t\t\tFirst, the general explanation: \t\t\tRegarding the uncommon [rituals], \t\t\tTwo traditions of the vehicle, and their followers are likewise. \t\t\tThis uncommon ritual is also known to have two traditions of the vehicle. In India and Tibet (China), their respective followers also appeared accordingly. \t\t\tThe first is: This very tradition, which was transmitted from the venerable Manjushri to the noble Nagarjuna and his son, and then from the practice tradition of the Bodhisattva Shantideva by Jowo Punyasri, became the practice of the venerable Sakyapas. Its content is as found in Nagarjuna's Bodhicitta Ritual, Jnanatara's Deity Vow Ritual, Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara, Shikshasamuccaya, and so on. \t\t\tThe second is: This very tradition, which was transmitted from the noble Maitreya to the brothers Asanga, and then from the practice tradition of Acharya Candragomi by Jowo Je (Atisha), became the practice of the Kadampas and the peerless Dakpo Kagyu. Its content is as found in the Bodhisattvabhumi, Vinaya Twenty Verses, and so on. \t\t\tHere in Tibet (China), many hold that Nagarjuna and Asanga are the founders who established the root traditions, such as Madhyamaka and Chittamatra. Therefore, the two traditions of bodhicitta are also referred to as the two traditions of Madhyamaka and Chittamatra, indicating their distinct differences.
