Because the parajika downfalls are root-severing downfalls. Using the analogy of cutting off the head of a tala tree, if one root downfall is committed, all are destroyed, and in that person's continuum, there are no bhikshu vows. There are two different traditions regarding this view. Moreover, when the essence of the vows is considered a physical form, the four trainings (precepts) etc. must exist as separate forms. Therefore, if one is destroyed, it is impossible for others to exist. When it is considered knowledge, there are no separate substances, thus if one is given up, it is established that all are given up. There are also blameless situations where one is unable to perform (the action). Being unable to perform means that one's body and mind are not under one's control. For example, engaging in sexual misconduct in a dream; or a novice practitioner not knowing what to abandon and what to adopt; or a mad person killing someone when their mind is not stable. In such cases, even if a parajika downfall is committed, there are instances where there is no actual fault as it pertains to the essential transgression. All precepts are also destroyed by violating the four root (downfalls). All precepts of the eight classes of Pratimoksha vows are destroyed by violating the four root downfalls, which is commonly agreed upon. If such a downfall is concealed, it is extremely serious. Second, rectifying downfalls has two parts: 1. Confession with willingness; 2. Rectification with strong effort for those unwilling. The first point is: Upasakas should renew their vows. For Novice monks and Bhikshus, If concealed, it cannot be restored; if unconcealed, it can be rectified. Remaining downfalls are rectified through expelling, pleasing (the community), abandoning, confessing, holding vows, and so forth. Rectifying downfalls. Meaning: If an Upasaka commits a root downfall, they should renew their vows. If a branch downfall occurs, such as drinking alcohol, they should confess before one who holds vows. If novice monks and bhikshus commit a concealed root downfall, their continuum (of vows) becomes unrestorable. In this life, the downfall cannot be rectified, and they are therefore expelled from their position. For an unconcealed downfall, one that was not hidden even for a moment, disciplinary training is given, and rectification is performed by undertaking five inferior practices and abandoning five special practices for as long as they live. It is also stated that an unconcealed parajika offender, if they surrender their fully ordained vows and re-take them, can still give rise (to the vows). Unconcealed remaining downfalls should be confessed before a bhikshu. For actual purification, one can perform pleasing actions and may be expelled. If concealed for a day, to purify the fault of concealment, for as long as it was concealed...

Performing transference (demotion). Thereafter, for the purpose of purifying the remaining grave offenses, according to the distinction of bhikshus and bhikshunis, penance must be observed for six days and half a month. Subsequently, for the sake of restoring to one's original status, one is expelled by a four-part formal act (karma vacana). Here, transference refers to being transferred from a special status to an inferior one; penance is to please the Sangha, meaning one must sit at the end of the bhikshus' rows and perform inferior acts such as sweeping. Kausambi (an ancient Indian city), that is, the basis for performing actions, and those with red and yellow (robes/factions). The basis for rectification also arose from this, as the initial causes (or pretexts) originated from these (events). Regarding offenses of abandonment (Nissaggiya Pacittiya), after first relinquishing the object related to the penalty of days, one must confess before a bhikshu who is free from similar offenses. As for the pure Pacittiya offenses, the Pratimoksha confession (44n), and the minor offenses (duşkṛta) to be confessed, they are purified merely by confessing. And the minor offenses to be restrained are restored by restraining them with the mind. For novices (sramanera/sramaneri), the minor offenses to be confessed are confessed by stating one's own name before a person. The minor offenses to be restrained are purified by restraining them with the mind, thereby rectifying all downfalls. B2 Second, Admonition (nan tur) is: "If not zealous, one must admonish." This means that if, due to an evil nature or other reasons, one is unwilling to rectify a downfall, the act of admonition must be performed. This implies bringing down and disparaging. Categorized, there are four kinds: rebuke, censure, expulsion, and turning away; seven kinds of displacement (removal); and two kinds of fostering (restoration) and prohibition, making a total of thirteen. If the seven displacements are counted as one, then there are seven admonitions. Among these, admonition by rebuke is: to one who engages in strife, rebuking by saying, "Abandon this action! If you do not abandon it, you will be expelled from this place." Admonition by censure is: to one who continuously commits remaining offenses without rectifying them, censuring by saying, "Though you are an independent person, you teach others to abide in the Dharma." Admonition by expulsion is: expelling one who undermines households from that place. Admonition by turning away is: to one who treats laypeople, etc., with contempt, turning away after abandoning things of affection (or friendly relations). The seven displacements (expulsions) are: one who claims not to have seen the downfall; one who does not rectify the downfall; one who holds wrong views; one who engages in strife; one who provides the cause for strife; and a bhikshuni...
