The lifelong retention of medicine is: the actual medicines that eliminate accumulated diseases, having been blessed, are suitable to be kept for as long as one lives. In order to prevent faults such as cooking at specific times and keeping overnight, a suitable storage room, blessed during the four seasons, is allocated. The manner of partaking food and the right mindfulness, etc., should also be done as explained in the treatises. Page 3. Third, the basis of karma particularly related to rituals is: There are one hundred and one types of karma, which are gathered into three categories. On the basis of karma that pervades everything, there are twenty-four types of karma with a single request, forty-seven types of karma with two requests, and thirty types of karma with four requests, totaling one hundred and one. The first type is: such as appointing a secret instructor, which is merely a request, without any actual pronouncement. The second type is: such as agreement on the place and intention, involving one request and one actual action, thus appearing in two forms. The third type is: such as full ordination, involving one request and three pronouncements of the actual action, and if the one hundred and eight (types) are summarized, they are contained within these three sections. Page 4. Fourth, the basis for purifying faults and making amends consists of three parts: 1. Causes for relinquishing vows. 2. Rectification of downfalls. 3. Rectification of disputes. Part 1. The first (cause) is: Relinquishment (of vows) occurs due to offering (the precepts), death, wrong views, and so forth. The general causes for relinquishing Pratimoksha vows are four: offering (relinquishing) the training wholeheartedly in the presence of someone who understands the indication; death; generating wrong views such as the view of no cause and effect; and, from among these, simultaneously developing two gender characteristics, or having one's gender characteristics change three times, leads to relinquishment. Furthermore, if one receives full ordination before reaching twenty years of age, even if the months of gestation (43n) in the mother's womb are added, and later discovers this, the vows are also relinquished. Having downfalls and vows, like having wealth yet being indebted. Practicing one and losing all, there are two different traditions. The Vaibhashikas of Kashmir (Kashmir Vaibhāṣikas) hold that even if a root downfall with concealment occurs, the vows are not relinquished. Because it is not reasonable to completely abandon the vows by merely transgressing one aspect. Such a person is both one who possesses vows and one who has corrupted conduct. Just as some individuals possess wealth yet are also burdened with debt, Drikung Kyobpa and the Sixth Shamarpa, etc., also hold similar views.
