Pravāraṇā There are three types of Pravāraṇā: time-bound, non-time-bound, and sudden (due to circumstances). 1. The first (time-bound): Should be performed on the full moon day when the three months of the rainy season retreat (Varṣāvāsa) are complete. The "long preparation" involves informing the villages within the activity area and decorating the monastery. On the night of the fourteenth, the meaning of the Dharma is finalized. The "close preparation" on the fifteenth day involves the appointed officiant performing a formal act (karma/gsol ba'i las) of mutual apology, etc., to achieve accord. The main part (dngos gzhi) involves holding Kuśa grass (Darbha grass) and performing the Pravāraṇā of transgressions, and the Pravāraṇā of offerings for distributing the gains acquired during the rainy season. Afterwards, on the sixteenth day, one should travel to abandon excessive attachment to the dwelling. 2. The second (non-time-bound): If, due to circumstances, the three-month rainy season retreat cannot be completed, then Pravāraṇā may be performed after three or two Upoṣadha (confession ceremonies). 3. The third (sudden): If, due to circumstances such as war, there is a sudden need to disperse, then a Saṅgha Pravāraṇā should be performed. Similarly, if any Bhikkhu needs to leave due to circumstances, it is done in the same way. Furthermore, if there are only four Bhikkhus, an officiant is not appointed; the formal act and the actual Pravāraṇā are performed directly. If there are only three or two Bhikkhus, the Pravāraṇā is blessed. If there is only one person, only the main part is recited three times. During the rainy season retreat, the four things that cause disturbances and are to be revealed/prohibited (dgag bya) are: mentioning transgressions (recalling faults), formal acts (karma), distributing gains, and spending a night outside the boundary. It is called Pravāraṇā because it clarifies (dbye bas) these issues. --- 2. The basis of conditions for peaceful dwelling has two parts: 1. Robes; and 2. Medicine. 1. The first (robes) has three parts: 1. Kathina; 2. Robes; 3. Basis of leather. 1. The first (Kathina) is: The basis of conditions for peaceful dwelling is the laying of Kathina. Among the conditions for living peacefully, there are two: robes and medicine. This is a specific type of robe, the laying of Kathina, which is related to ease and involves new Dharma robes obtained during the rainy season retreat, which belong to the entire Saṅgha, whether many or few. From the sixteenth day, the day after the Pravāraṇā that marks the end of the rainy season retreat (whether early or late), for five months, the Kathina is laid through a formal act of the Saṅgha, entrusted to a Bhikkhu, and then the Bhikkhu...

It should be received according to the rituals prescribed by it. While performing purification, it should not be taken outside the boundary/confines, nor should it be placed in an unclean room or a place without a roof. Airing out and dusting, etc., should be done from time to time. It is said that for those who spread/use this, there are ten benefits, such as not incurring the downfall of holding, separating, and placing (the three actions). In Tibet, due to the royal decree prohibiting unrestrained conduct and related activities, this practice did not come about. B2. Second, [the basis of robes] is: The requisites for robes are abundant and prepared; For proper livelihood, thirteen alterations are to be made. Regarding robes related to livelihood requisites, there are three: livelihood requisites, necessary requisites, and abundant requisites. The first of these, livelihood requisites, refers to seven types, such as woolen robes, that are suitable materials, not acquired through wrong livelihood, and not of extremely poor or excellent quality. They should not be made from unsuitable materials like camel hair or goat hair, and should not have extremely long hair or uncut fringes, etc. One should avoid the eight unsuitable major dyes and dye them with three suitable dyes. (41N) As it says: Safflower, lac dye, and madder, Medicinal wood, indigo wood, vermilion, Sindura and saffron, These are regarded as the eight major dyes. And: Blue, kashaya, and ochre dye, These are the three suitable dyes. Thus it is said. Generally, robes must be cut with a blade, as it is said, "robes not cut with a weapon should not be worn." Therefore, they should be cut with a knife and sewn to the proper measure, any of the thirteen requisites for livelihood, namely: the patched robe, upper robe, lower robe, skirt, shawl for the skirt, sweat cloth, shawl for the sweat cloth, face towel, pus cloth, itch cover, hair band, cushion, and large cotton summer robe. Regarding the patched robe: it consists of nine to twenty-five small strips. The three types of nine-piece, eleven-piece, and thirteen-piece (robes) are three and a half sections. The three types of fifteen-piece, seventeen-piece, and nineteen-piece (robes) are four and a half sections. The three types of twenty-one-piece, twenty-three-piece, and twenty-five-piece (robes) are five and a half sections. The measurements are: for the three large types, three cubits in height and five cubits in width. For the three small types: from that, half a cubit is successively subtracted.
