To force weaving without being given. The transgression of increasing weaving refers to a lay householder, not a relative, promising to weave cloth for oneself, but then giving wages to the weaver and having them weave expensive cloth that does not match the donor's intention. The transgression of seizing what has been given refers to seizing back requisites that have been given to another monk. The transgression arising from entrustment refers to consuming gains entrusted by a donor during the summer retreat. The transgression of being separated from the monastery refers to a monastery monk being separated from his Dharma robes for more than seven days. The transgression of large cloth refers to seeking and holding large cloth for more than one month before the commitment of the summer retreat, and within half a month after the end of the retreat. The transgression of diverting a dedication refers to diverting requisites dedicated to the Sangha for oneself. The transgression of hoarding refers to holding any of the three types of medicine beyond the prescribed time. (32a) The meaning of "these are the thirty transgressions of relinquishment" is that the substance which became the cause of the downfall must be relinquished one day in advance, and only then can the downfall be confessed. Furthermore, if any of these transgressions of relinquishment has occurred, and one has appropriated any requisites for sustenance, then when rectifying that transgression, the substance that caused the transgression and the later requisites must also be relinquished one day in advance. This is because the later transgression acts as a striking tool, affecting the previously struck object. Second, regarding mere downfalls (minor offenses), there are nine tens (or: nine categories of ten). First: Falsehood, fault-finding, slander, discouragement, teaching and uttering, Speaking, defaming, despising. Thus. The downfall of speaking falsehood refers to knowingly speaking a falsehood that falls within the four categories of offenses: defeat (Parajika), remnant (Sanghadisesa), grave (Thullaccaya), and minor (Dukkata). The downfall of fault-finding refers to speaking of the faults of monks who are of low birth, incomplete faculties, and so on. The downfall of slander refers to intentionally instigating slander among other monks, causing division. The downfall of discouragement refers to settling disputes among other monks in a disheartened manner.
