(30b) To keep an unblessed garment, which is of arm's length (a cubit) in size, and does not cover the three places (navel and two knees), for one month. \t\t\tThe three places are: the navel circle (cakra), and the two knee circles. \t\t\tIf a garment is not consecrated, after ten days, when the dawn of the eleventh day appears, the transgression of keeping the garment for ten days arises. Moreover, even if a subsequent garment obtained has not been kept for ten days, by the force of that previous transgression, the transgression of keeping it for ten days also arises. Furthermore, if a garment that initially incurred the "month-long placement" transgression is obtained, and thereafter a full set of monastic robes is obtained, then at the dawn of the eleventh day, the former garment can also generate the transgression of keeping it for ten days, and so on. There are many such instances concerning this "force" (shan). This explanation regarding garments should also be analogously applied to alms bowls, medicine, and other similar transgressions. \t\t\tFurthermore, the distinct boundaries for relinquishing (garments), permissions, blessings, etc., are also very important, and therefore should be referred to elsewhere. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by having clothes washed is: having an old garment washed by a bhikkhuni (nun) who is not a relative of oneself. \t\t\tHere, "relative" refers to up to seven generations of lineage from either the father's or mother's side. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by accepting a garment is: having already possessed the three monastic robes, yet accepting a garment that is sufficient to cover the three places from a bhikkhuni who is not a relative of oneself. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by begging (for a garment) is: begging from a layperson who is not a relative of oneself, as described just now. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by appropriately begging (for a garment) is: a bhikkhu without the three monastic robes begging from a layperson who is not a relative for more than the measure of one upper garment and one lower garment combined. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by begging for "shares" is: when a layperson who is not a relative intends to give as they wish, but one begs for something of better value, etc., than that. (31a) \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by begging for "shares" individually is: it is similar to the previous case, except for the distinction between an offering made jointly from one household and offerings made separately by a male and a female. \t\t\tThe offense of relinquishment by urging (for a garment) is: having entrusted the valuables for purchasing a garment to a caretaker, and then accepting the garment by urging more than three times and waiting in a visible place more than three times. \t\t\tThe second set of ten (precepts) is: \t\t\tSilk (garment)
