Thus, and: \t\t\tIf one turns away from the precious mind, \t\t\tThere is no Buddha and no sentient being. \t\t\t(283b) Therefore, from the very thought of making that tantric verse a recitation, it can be understood that the vow is inappropriate. \t\t\tIts corroboration, too, from those scriptures, the dharmadhatu and that which is called "I," must be explained as non-dual wisdom and naturally occurring dharmakaya, because this is clearly stated in those very treatises, and so on, it extensively appears. \t\t\tConcerning this philosophical system, the name Madhyamaka (Middle Way) is also stated directly in the sutras: From the Sutra on Ultimate Emptiness: "That wherein something is absent, that is empty of that. And that which remains here, that is present here. This is the correct, unerring view of the Madhyamaka path, emptiness." And so on, it appears extensively. \t\t\tFrom the Madhyamakalankara: \t\t\tTherefore, forms and so forth are mind itself; \t\t\tThey are not desired as external. \t\t\tRelying on Mind Only, \t\t\tOne should know that external objects do not exist. \t\t\tRelying on this principle, also, in that regard, \t\t\tOne should know extreme selflessness. \t\t\tThus, and: \t\t\tFrom Nāgabuddhi's (Klu'i bshegs) Trisaranagamanasutra (Entering the Three Kayas): \t\t\tThat which is called the Madhyamaka path, \t\t\tOther than mere cognition, \t\t\tIf examined by reasoning, here, anything else, \t\t\tIs in no way tenable. \t\t\tThus, and: \t\t\tFrom Śāntipa's Madhyamakalankara: \t\t\tExpounded by Maitreya-Asaṅga, \t\t\tAnd also upheld by Nāgārjuna, \t\t\tWhich possesses valid scripture and reasoning, \t\t\tThe two truths will be explained here. \t\t\tAnd so on, it appears. \t\t\tPart 2: Explanation of the Profound Secret Mantra Madhyamaka. \t\t\tThe profound Mantra Madhyamaka is the fundamental nature of all phenomena; \t\t\tIts nature is clear light, with the special quality of great bliss. \t\t\tIt is the conjoined wisdom of clarity-emptiness and bliss-emptiness, \t\t\tAs clearly taught in the Guhyasamaja Tantra's 'Five Stages of Mind Commentary' and others. \t\t\tThe Madhyamaka arising from the profound Secret Mantra tradition, (284a) primarily due to the prominence of non-dual wisdom, largely accords with the Yogācāra Madhyamaka. As extensively taught in the final turning of the Dharma wheel, the nature of mind is clear light, empty of all elaborations and conceptualizations, and its own essence is the wisdom of dharmata, characterized by self-awareness, being the fundamental nature of all phenomena from the very beginning… (text cut off)

Therefore, primarily to establish and actualize that which is spontaneously accomplished. Furthermore, that which is intrinsically luminous, characterized by great bliss, is the wisdom of the union of the emptiness of the syllable (ཨེ་, [no Sanskrit Devanagari equivalent], e, E-syllable) and the great compassion of the syllable (ཝྃ, वं, vam, VAM-syllable), clarity-emptiness, bliss-emptiness, and so forth. Its detailed meaning is clearly and extensively expounded in texts such as the Five Stages and the Three Cycles of Mind Commentaries, and thus should be understood from those. Here, a brief common explanation is as follows: there are two types, Madhyamaka related to the generation stage, and Madhyamaka related to the completion stage. As for the first, there are two aspects: the basis for accomplishing the deity, and the manner in which the deity, thus accomplished, appears without elaboration. The first is: according to the explanation of Other-Emptiness (Shentong), it is accomplished from non-dual wisdom. This is because the seed syllables and attributes arisen from the essence of emptiness do not transcend Dharmadhatu wisdom. The manner of the deity, thus accomplished, appearing without elaboration is: firstly, it is established through the approach of clarity-emptiness. Regarding that, clarity refers to: the clear appearance of all characteristics and sense bases of the deity's mandala, including both the principal (deity) and its retinue (or the support and the supported). Emptiness refers to: if one clings to that very clear appearance as a concrete sign, one has not transcended cyclic existence. Therefore, one does not grasp at anything, nor conceptualize anything at all. Merely suppressing conceptualization, though it may be nirvana, yet because it has not attained union, it has not transcended that which is associated with defilements. Therefore, one practices through the approach of union, so that the very appearance of the deity is empty at the time of clarity, and even at the time of emptiness, it arises clearly. This is the union of clarity and emptiness. In this regard, the pith instructions state that "samsara and nirvana are inseparable." At that time, the apprehended object arises as the union of appearance and emptiness, and the apprehending consciousness arises as the union of clarity and emptiness. After rising from that state, in the post-meditation period, because one has not abandoned the divine pride, one engages in the yoga with characteristics. As for the Madhyamaka related to the completion stage, there are also two aspects: abandoning attachment to the generation stage, and the actual wisdom of the completion stage. The first is: to dissolve all mandalas of the container and the contained through the gateway of simultaneous absorption or subsequent analysis, and then to abide in a state where nothing is apprehended. This is supreme for the method of Self-Emptiness (Rangtong) and for eliminating the elaborations of conceptualization, however...
