Because it is said so. Therefore, these masters, not following other philosophical schools, only follow the conventions of ordinary people to establish conventional truth. This is because they consider that just as only noble beings are valid cognizers regarding ultimate truth, so too, regarding the establishment of conventional truth, only ordinary people are valid cognizers. In short, ordinary people, without engaging in analysis such as 'from self' or 'from other,' understand only 'effect arises from cause.' This is all they comprehend. The Prasangikas (Consequentialists) also establish conventional truth in this manner. The way of acceptance in conventional truth also differs. The Svatantrikas accept conventional truth as their own system within the conventional. The Prasangikas, however, do not establish anything whatsoever as their own system, neither ultimately nor conventionally. Nevertheless, solely due to necessity, they merely accept conventional truth based on the perspective of others in the world; they do not accept it as their own system, not even conventionally. Therefore, it is also said in that [text]: Just as you assert dependent entities, I also do not accept conventional existence. Though these are not existent for the sake of results, I speak of them as existent from the world's perspective. Because it is said so. Furthermore, when debating, the Svatantrika masters, without establishing their own system, merely refute other systems. This is an inappropriate refutation by fallacious counter-argument. Moreover, if their own assertions such as emptiness and non-arising are not established by valid cognition, then merely by the consequence that 'other systems' phenomena inherently arise,' it cannot be refuted. Therefore, conventionally, they should assert certain aspects of their own system, such as reasons that establish their own thesis of non-arising, and examples that are established by valid cognition. This is because their own thesis cannot be established by reasons accepted by others. The Prasangikas, however, state: If one has one's own thesis, then due to the fear of criticism from others, one does not establish one's own system. Furthermore, with the intention of being hostile towards other systems, merely by the consequence... (text cut off)

If (the Madhyamika) refutes (other tenets), it would become a devious one who attacks in a perverse manner. However, the Madhyamaka school itself has no position whatsoever to assert for itself. What then is the use of this effort to seek proofs for it? Indeed, it is not even for the purpose of refuting others. If one could apprehend even a slight phenomenon to be refuted, then refuting it would be reasonable. But if one cannot apprehend even an object of refutation as minute as one-hundredth of a hair's tip, then who would speak of refuting it? As stated in the *Introduction to Wisdom (Prajñāvatāra)*: Both refutation and establishment are mere refutation; In reality, there is neither refutation nor establishment. Whatever various logical analyses are made in treatises by presenting the assertions of others, this is not out of hatred for other systems or delight in debate. Rather, it is done solely to counteract the manifest clinging of beings bound by the net of conceptual elaborations, adapting to the perspectives of others. As stated in the *Madhyamakāvatāra (Introduction to the Middle Way)*: Treatises do not engage in analysis and debate out of attachment, But explain the ultimate truth for the sake of liberation. If, in explaining that ultimate truth, Other systems are destroyed, there is no fault. Therefore, all the various rational analyses presented in Madhyamaka treatises are solely for the purpose of refuting the exaggerations and deprecations (conceptual elaborations) of others. They are not born from the power of mere conceptual analysis to realize the ultimate nature of reality, because the ultimate nature of reality is not an object of analysis through hearing and contemplation. Likewise, in that same (text), it is said: Ordinary beings are bound by conceptual elaborations, Non-conceptual yogis are liberated. That which is the reversal of all conceptual elaborations, The wise declare to be the fruit of analysis. This (Madhyamaka) Prāsaṅgika system is not only immune to refutation by others, but it is also capable of thoroughly refuting all other systems. This is because any counter-arguments presented by others against its reasoning are incapable of establishing a position equivalent to what is to be proven. In short, the Prāsaṅgikas do not accept intrinsically established (svatantra) or inherently forceful reasoning (svatantranumāna), because there is no valid cognition that intrinsically establishes phenomena. Adapting to others' perspectives.
