It was extensively taught to reverse the three (ignorances). Ignorance and formations are the two links of the former extreme; birth and aging-and-death are the two links of the latter extreme. Thus, there are two at the former extreme and two at the latter extreme. The middle extreme consists of eight links, from consciousness to existence. Among these, ignorance and formations are the causes, and from these, the five links from consciousness to feeling arise, which is one sequence of cause and effect. Again, from the two causes of craving and clinging, the results of existence, birth, and aging-and-death arise, which is another sequence of cause and effect. This manner in which these two sequences of cause and effect are completed in the three types of births in the desire realm was extensively taught by the Buddha in order to reverse the three types of ignorance that sentient beings have regarding the former, latter, and present extremes. P3 Third [The manner of completion in a single lifetime]: There is also the completion (of the twelve links) experienced in this very life, in a single lifetime. In terms of what is experienced in this very life, the twelve links can also be completed in a single lifetime. For example, a sentient being who has committed an unceasing (interminable) crime and is destined for hell, or one who, driven by ignorance, strongly desires to obtain a female body, performs a certain action. That action completely plants the seed of rebirth there in the consciousness. Subsequently, the seeds of the links of name-and-form, the six sense bases, contact, and feeling are also gradually and fully planted. At some point, this person develops craving for offerings and, driven by that craving, clinging to obtain offerings, then harshly slanders a monastic community of Arhats, saying, "These are a group of women!" Due to this action, the previously planted karma for rebirth as a woman becomes extremely potent, and in that very present life, the bodily characteristics completely transform, leading to being perceived as a woman—this is birth. Once transformed, it leads to the links of aging and death, as if completed within that single lifetime. N2 Second: Instantaneous Dependent Origination: That which is completed in a single instant of action. Like taking a life, that is dependent origination. The twelve links being fully complete in a single instant of completing an action is, for example, like taking a life; that is instantaneous dependent origination.

It is related. Furthermore, taking killing as an example: The defilements (kleshas) of that time (218na) when one engages in killing a sentient being out of a mind of hatred stirred by ignorance, these are the limb of ignorance. The act of killing is the limb of formations (samskaras). By this, one's own mind becomes evil, and the habitual tendency to be reborn in a hell-like realm stains the consciousness (alaya-vijnana), which is the limb of consciousness. At that time, the five aggregates (skandhas) of one's own continuum and the six sense bases (ayatana), the part that is completely stained by that evil karma, is the limb of these (aggregates and sense bases). At that time, the complete discernment of the object, where the object, faculty, and consciousness three coalesce, is the limb of contact. During that moment, experiencing the killed one being killed is the limb of feeling. At that time, having a strong craving for that act of killing is the limb of craving. Craving desiring to accomplish that act is the limb of clinging. By this, planting the habitual tendency for rebirth in a future existence is the limb of becoming. The aspect of the complete transformation of the aggregates at that time is birth and old age and death. --- Thirdly, explaining dependent origination with relation also has two parts: Firstly, the meaning of the scriptures of Venerable Maitreya; secondly, the meaning of the scriptures of Master Vasubandhu. --- Firstly, this has three parts: 1. Classification, 2. Abbreviation, 3. Presentation of the seven causes. --- Firstly, the first part: \t\t\tThe related ones are from the "Distinguishing the Middle from Extremes," \t\t\tBirth, old age, and death are condensed into eleven categories. The related dependent origination, from "Distinguishing the Middle from Extremes," from ignorance, formations, etc., condenses birth and old age and death into one category, thus classifying them into eleven limbs. Furthermore, the suffering of birth as a basis, and various aggregates of suffering such as old age, death, sorrow, lamentation, etc., are condensed into one category because they are sufferings that arise based on that (birth). This elevenfold classification reveals the complete structure that spans one cycle through the three times (past, present, future) (218ba). --- Secondly, [Abbreviation]: \t\t\tIgnorance, craving, clinging, defilement, formations, becoming (existence), \t\t\tThe remaining suffering, birth, and three defilements (kleshas), \t\t\tKarma, defilement, cause, effect, five, seven, abbreviated into two. Regarding abbreviation, there are two types: abbreviating into three defilements (kleshas) and abbreviating into two. --- Firstly, Protector Nagarjuna also said: \t\t\tFirst eight
