This is the samadhi of emptiness. Bodhisattvas should thus fully know the samadhi on form. Thus it is said. \t\t\t3. Third, the manner in which these three characteristics (natures) apply to the basis of designation is as follows: \t\t\tFor example, whether it appears to eye-consciousness or to mind-consciousness, it is acceptable. At the time of appearing as a pot, that aspect of grasping a pot is the fully conceptualized nature (parikalpita); and that mere clear apprehension (cognition) that distinguishes it is the dependent nature (paratantra); the pristine wisdom that remains when both that fully conceptualized and that dependent nature are absent is understood as the fully perfected nature (pariniṣpanna). \t\t\tIf we take afflictions like attachment and hatred as examples, when a strong attachment or hatred arises in the mind, that vividly appearing aspect of attachment/hatred is the fully conceptualized nature (parikalpita); its aspect of clear apprehension (cognition) is the dependent nature (paratantra); and the pristine wisdom free from elaboration, which pervades all with a single taste, is the fully perfected nature (pariniṣpanna). \t\t\tHere, what is mentioned as "single taste" means: For example, although the clear apprehending aspect of the consciousness of hatred and the clear apprehending aspect of the consciousness of attachment are extremely similar in appearance, because they are distinct entities, they do not mutually pervade each other. However, in their fully perfected nature, there is no difference in essence; they have become of a single taste. \t\t\tBy this, one should also understand by analogy the knowable objects of the path and fruit. \t\t\tThe presentation of the three natures appears extensively in the sutra collections of the final turning of the Dharma wheel, and there is one understanding (identification) explained in the commentaries of the venerable Maitreya and Nāgārjuna on the *Salistamba Sutra*. \t\t\tVasubandhu, in his *Trimsika* (Thirty Verses) chapter, has an acceptance (or assertion) that is slightly special, (211a) as is commonly known among those who assert other-emptiness (gzhan stong pa), and: \t\t\tThe Lord of Reasoning (Vasubandhu) states: \t\t\tObjects imputed by conceptual thought, \t\t\tAre the fully conceptualized nature. \t\t\tConceptual thought is the dependent. \t\t\tThe emptiness of that is the fully perfected. \t\t\tThus the system is clearly elucidated. \t\t\tSome say that the presentation of the three natures is exclusively the system of the Mind-Only school (Cittamātra), and is not known among the Madhyamikas; this thought is incorrect, because: \t\t\tEven in the chapter on Maitreya's Questions in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, it is said: "Maitreya, the subdivisions of form are of three kinds: distinguished by the characteristic of the fully conceptualized (parikalpita), and by the conceptual..."
