is its preliminary. Chapter Two: [The Human and Divine Vehicle] Abandon the ten non-virtues, accomplish the ten virtues together with their retinue. Abide in the precepts of what to adopt and what to reject, abandon what is mixed and inconsistent. By perfecting the path of karma and vows, one reaches the higher realms. Attain the excellent fruit of karmic maturation, concordant causes, and dominant conditions. Regarding the worldly Human and Divine Vehicle: It is practiced by those who, fearing the lower realms, seek the blissful fruit of the higher realms, thereby achieving a high status. It is the path of the lesser being, relying solely on protection from fear and good aspirations. It is the path of the ten virtuous actions that are not entirely upheld by the main practice of meditation. Since there is no vehicle that does not practice this, it is also the foundation and preliminary for all vehicles. From the *Hevajra Tantra*, it is said: Starting from the ten virtues, its Dharma is thoroughly elucidated. As it is stated. Here, the "Divine Vehicle" mentioned in the *Lankavatara Sutra* is stated primarily in terms of the main object to be traversed, but in terms of its retinue, it includes all paths to blissful rebirths in the desire realm. This entails having a perfectly pure view, having faith in the afterlife and the law of karma (cause and effect), and in conduct, abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions and continuously habituating oneself to accomplishing the ten virtuous actions with their retinue, thereby reaching the ultimate happiness of humans in the four continents and the six classes of desire realm deities (176b), up to the lord of those who exercise power over others' creations. Furthermore, it is crucial to be endowed with the worldly correct view, which serves as an antidote to wrong views such as denying karma (cause and effect). In the *Letter to a Friend*, it is said: If you truly desire higher realms or liberation, then habituate yourself to the correct view. Even if a person with wrong views performs good deeds, all will lead to unbearable karmic maturation. Because it is stated thus. After that, it is crucial to abide in moral discipline (ཚུལ་ཁྲིམས་) without errors in what to adopt and what to reject. In the *Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way*, it is said: Through moral discipline, one attains blissful rebirths. And: In the *Entering the Middle Way*, it is said: There is no other cause for higher status than moral discipline. Because it is stated thus. If we slightly differentiate the moral discipline of this vehicle: Generally, it is motivated by a sense of shame and conscientiousness, and one's bodily and verbal actions are in accordance with noble conduct and...

One should learn three types of universal conduct: As stated in "Ornament of the Noble Ones": Those worthy of respect should be well-cared for, Especially loving towards the unprotected, One who does not forget kindness received, These are the actions of noble ones. As it is thus taught. Specifically, one should learn the sixteen human dharmas. As stated in "Minor Discernment": To have unwavering faith in the Three Jewels, To genuinely seek the sacred Dharma, To skillfully learn excellent knowledge, To act with moderation and measure in all things, Not to desire involvement in unassigned tasks, To look at high places and follow the lead of superiors, To repay the kindness of parents of the three times, To be generous and broad-minded among siblings and family members, To respectfully honor elders in due course, To be kind to neighbors, To assist virtuous friends (kalyanamitra) with diligence in difficulties, To completely avoid partiality (near or far) related to worldly affairs (177b), To benefit others with skillful application of wisdom, To take those who rely on you under the protection of your kindness, To prevent advice that leads to evil deeds, and to propose strategies for the peace and prosperity of the kingdom, To entrust the final outcome to the Dharma, so that future generations may attain the foundation of enlightenment. As stated thus, one should learn the pure human moral codes. In particular, as mentioned above, directly and indirectly abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions such as taking life, and striving to accomplish the ten virtuous actions such as giving life, as far as possible. If views, meditation, and conduct are mixed with defiled actions, and are not in harmony with the projecting (result) and complete (result), these are inferior; those with complete virtuous paths are middling; and those encompassed by the essence of the ten virtuous actions, including their associated deeds and vows, are supreme. Accordingly, when born into the higher realms, one will attain superior, middling, and inferior good results through the aspects of ripening, similar cause, and dominant influence. 3. The third [Separate Explanation of the Brahma Vehicle] has two parts: 1. Identifying the Vehicle, 2. Explaining the actual path. 1. The first is: (177b) The Brahma Vehicle, which leads to the higher realms. Why is this called the Brahma Vehicle? Because it is pure or purified through the renunciation of worldly afflictions, and thus pure (Brahma); and because it is the means of journeying there, it is called a Vehicle.
