These are the earth skirts. The two ornaments for adornment are: snakes and skulls. For the royal caste (Kshatriya), white-streaked (snakes) as a head ornament. For the merchant caste (Vaishya), yellow-streaked (snakes) as an ear ornament. For the Brahmin caste, red-streaked (snakes) as a neck ornament. For the commoner caste (Shudra), black-streaked (snakes) as a waist sash. For the outcaste (Chandala), green-streaked (snakes) as armlets and anklets. Furthermore, a dry skull is used as a head ornament, a wet skull as a hair ornament (or dreadlocks), and skull fragments as arm ornaments. The three anointing substances are: a pile of great ashes (or corpse ashes) between the eyebrows, a drop of (རཀྟ། रक्त། rakta། blood) on the cheeks, and streaks of grease/fat on the throat. In the Nyingma tradition, the eight renowned glorious ornaments are, as it is said: The blazing glory, the garment of the magnificent makara (sea monster), The union of skillful means and wisdom, the garment of sun and moon, Burning the malevolent, the garment of wisdom fire, Uprooting birth and death, the garment of tusks like crescent moons, Pervading and fulfilling hopes, the garment of vajra wings, Completing dominion and power, the garment of vajra eagles, Reaching the buddha-stage, the garment of the rhinoceros hide armor of empowerment, Averting harm and malevolence, the garment of the iron bird-griffin (Garuda). There are eight as described above, or ten glorious ornaments when adding the unchanging vajra half-vajra on the crown and the (ཕུར་བུ། कील། phurba/kīla། ritual dagger) skirt that pulverizes malevolence. The former (the eight) are primarily explained in tantras such as the Wisdom Lightning Tantra, etc., while the latter (the ten, specifically the additional two) are primarily explained in the Kagye (Eight Proclamations). Among these, some slight similarities and differences arise. The third [section], hand emblems, are: The first hand emblem, vajra, For the chief deities of mandalas, such as the ocean of dakinis and those with many hands, various types of hand emblems are extensively explained. Among these, the principal ones are the first vajra and the To briefly summarize them: (131b) The first hand emblem, the vajra: Four prongs, almost touching the center, Red in color, wrathful vajra prongs, Very widely spread in the four directions. The (ཁ་ཊྭཱཾ། खट्वाङ्ग། khaṭvāṅga། khatvanga/skull staff) has a vajra and three human heads, With a vase, a crossed vajra, and a handle, Its length is equal to the height of the body, Silk streamers, bells, and a damaru (small drum) hang from it. The (ག་ད། गदा། gadā། mace/club) staff is like a mighty arrow, And similar to a fox's bow. The (བི་དྷི་པཱ་ལ། भिदिपाल། Bhidhipāla། spear of destruction/splitting spear) has a sharp spearhead, Adorned with a bunch of peacock feathers on its handle. A five-pronged vajra, discarding the four prongs. (ཨ་ཀ་པཱུ་ཙི་ཀ་བཛྲ། [No standard Sanskrit equivalent]། Akapūcikavajra། Akapūcika Vajra, transliterated term). (Incomplete)

I, the short Kānāyā. These two vajra single-pronged. Skull garland, skull, hand-drum. With netting and without netting. Long sword, water sword (dagger), dagger. Curved knife (sickle), axe, pounding pestle (or mortar and pestle). Long spear, short spear, three types of shields. Cymbals (or brass cymbals), clay drum, round drum. Large drum (or Dharma drum), ḍāka drum, paṭaha drum. Vajra bell and so on. Furthermore, the fourth [throne back] is: The seven pure categories of throne supports of the northern direction, The essence of the six perfections, the six ornaments of the backrest, and so on. In accordance with the meaning of the tantras that encapsulate the qualities of the guru, the throne with its cushion and backrest, when associated with the seven pure Dharma categories of the northern direction, is known as the seven throne supports. These are: the throne cushion, the front of the throne, the legs of the throne, the two bases of the throne, the canopy (or decorative border), and the railings – these are the seven types. As supporters, there are lions, elephants, peacocks, and shank-shank birds. The sun, moon, and lotus cushions are respectively associated with strength, the ten powers, knowledge arising from aspiration, the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, ultimate truth (ཨེ, ए, E, excellence), relative truth (ཝྃ, वं, VAM, pervading), and the qualities unstained by the three obscurations. On the backrest, which embodies the six perfections, there are six types of ornaments: Garuda, Makara, child, elephant, Sharabha (a mythical beast, often depicted as a lion-bodied creature with horns, sharp claws, and sometimes eight legs), which is a rhinoceros with an open mouth, and Naga children. These are respectively associated with wisdom, meditation, diligence, patience, morality, and generosity – the six perfections, in reverse order. Among these, there are elaborate decorations such as twenty-one layers (folio 132 verso) on the throne. The elaborate backrest is like a parasol with hanging tassels; the medium one is like lotus petals; the simplified ones include iron-tipped and rounded forms, and so on. There are many such classifications of elaborate, medium, and simplified styles. The measurements for the medium style are found in detail in Taktsang Lotsawa's Paljor Gyatso. In later times, although both painted and sculpted throne backrests were rarely made, if completed, they would become a cause for immense accumulation of merit. Many Tibetan scholars believe that this 'six-lifted throne' (Khri drug ‘gyogs) was a gate ornament in Indian temples, and thus, in Tibet, it was mistakenly adopted as a divine backrest. Its widespread adoption [use] as an ornament was merely due to this, without proper scriptural authority. The source explaining this is the guru's…
