And, to those who inquire, offerings should be given as they wish. In the *Consecration Tantra*, it is said: "If the artisan is not pleased, the wisdom deity will not enter. Therefore, at the beginning of consecration, the artisan must first be pleased." Similarly, in many sutras and tantras, making the artisan pleased is stated as the primary samaya (vow) of the patron. To annoy an artisan is to annoy the deity. Therefore, one should, in the manner of relying on a spiritual friend, generate faith and reverence for the artisan who creates divine images, and make offerings to them as if to a deity. Nowadays, when buying and selling representations of enlightened body, speech, and mind (statues, scriptures, stupas), it would be excellent if both the artisan and the patron could pay the heroic price (fair price) determined by what is appropriate to the time and place. However, haggling, as is common in Nepal (བལ་) and Tibet (བོད་), becomes a cause for generating great fault for both parties, which is mentioned here incidentally. B2. Second, the explanation of the proportionate measurements of the supporting deity is twofold: M1. Samaya painted images; M2. Actual explanation of the proportionate measurements. M1. The first (part), the samaya painted image, conforming to the texts, is supreme. Because the samaya painted image, conforming to the texts of the respective tantra collections, is supreme among all divine images. Moreover, in the *Hevajra Tantra*, chapter six of the later investigation, it is said: Herein, by the samaya-bound painter, And by the samaya-bound practitioner, The terrifying painted image is indeed drawn. With the five colors residing on the born skull, And with a brush made of hair from a corpse, The painted image of the Lama (deity) is indeed drawn. Whoever spins the thread, Whoever weaves the cloth, They too must be samaya-bound individuals. By the yogi blessed with samaya, On the fourteenth day Of the waning moon phase, in a secluded place, (126 verso) If the mind is half-wicked (unwholesome), Apart from a little alcoholic beverage, One contemplates the 'ram' syllable (རཾ, रं, raṃ, the seed syllable of fire element) on the body. Similarly, even if one becomes naked, If there is defilement and impurity, For that, samaya is the best. With beautiful countenance, possessing compassion, A beautiful woman with graceful form and youth, endowed with good fortune, Flower and fruit that delight the practitioner, One places one's mudra (consort) on the left. Such teachings are also found in the Anuttarayoga Tantra, and, In the *Manjushri Mula Tantra*, the rituals for drawing large and small (images) are extensively explained, along as their benefits and merits...

Now, one should practice without error, as well explained. From the Domjung, it is said: The tantric practitioner, from the very beginning, Should make images, etc. If painted images are accomplished, then swiftly, Great accomplishments will be attained. Thus it is said. 2. The second part is an explanation of measurements, which has three points: 1. General explanation; 2. Detailed explanation; 3. Related necessities. 1. The first point is: The measurements in the Kalachakra (mandala) are, by one's own finger-measure, One hundred and twenty-five; in the Domjung, one hundred and twenty. The four seats (Buddhas) are similar; the red and black (wrathful deities) have a face measurement of eight. The sutras and Indian treatises agree with and follow this. The measurements of the body image are earnestly taught in the sutras and tantras: Moreover, in the King of Tantras, the Kalachakra (Tantra), it states (126b): From the crown of the Victorious Lord to the center of the urna, it becomes one and a half sun-fingers. From there to the water-born (lotus) of the throat, similarly to the heart, and from there to the secret water-born (lotus) of the navel, similarly. The soles of the feet, and the calves, thighs, and hips, are also the Manu of the Vedas. The chest, with half and half by suns, and one's own shoulders, upper arms, and forearms, are by the measure of the sun, the king of sky-eyes. One hundred and twenty-five, which is the worldly measure of people of the times and nines. The base with half of the Vedas and the ocean, the ocean with half of the Vedas, by the Vedas. The crown, the head below, becomes the glorious forehead of the Victorious Lord, and the nose. Below the nose, the chin, the edge of the mouth, and then the throat, the center of the water-born (lotus) at the base of the throat. From there to the heart, the navel, and the secret, the lord of humans, with half-suns, will be in order. Thus, it is clearly stated that the self-finger measure is exactly one hundred and twenty-five, and therein also extensively arises the purification of outer and inner, such as the mandala. In the thirtieth chapter of the Domjung, an explanatory tantra of Chakrasamvara, it is said: The divine painted images, Their extent and the characteristics of the images. Before the Brahma-painted images, Five parts of the measure are the seat. The body has three sections, Etc., (with a) finger-measure of one hundred and twenty.
