实体(substance)与反体(isolate)、相违(contradiction)与关联(relation)、总(universal)与别(particular); 相(sign)与所相(signified)、因(cause)与果(effect)、有(existence)与无(non-existence)之了知; 是(is)与非(is not)、返(reversion)与随行(affirmative concomitance)与相违(negative concomitance); 遮破所依(basis of negation)、计量方式(method of calculation)、前(prior)与后(posterior)强有力; 连环(circular reasoning)等,共有十三种。

The inferential reasons that rely on the power of things, for both direct perception and inference, are of three types: namely, the reason of effect, the reason of nature, and the reason of non-apprehension. Extremely hidden phenomena are those objects of knowledge, such as virtue and non-virtue, that cannot be established by either direct perception or the inference based on the power of things, but must be understood solely by relying on scripture. Among scriptures, those not purified by the three examinations can also indicate wrong paths, serving merely as obstacles to certainty. Whereas those purified by the three examinations, or trustworthy and faultless words, are definitive statements that require no further intended meaning or other considerations. All various terms of reasoning solely derive from these roots. The three examinations are: for manifesting obvious phenomena, by direct perception; for hidden phenomena, by inference based on the power of things; and for extremely hidden phenomena, by the non-contradiction of one's own statements, earlier and later. Third, summarizing the essence of these into five modes: The subject, the basis of classification, and the classification of phenomena; The establishment of what is to be ascertained, and the determining logical consequence (prasanga); These five modes for entering the Middle Way view, Are summarized by the masters of logic: What is measured by convention, the ultimate is established by valid cognition. Objects of knowledge, objects of measurement, and established bases exist. Phenomena, bases, interdependence, Objects, subjects, and fields, Are coextensive with the basis of classification and the subject. According to this, the object of knowledge possessing these various names is the basis of classification. When classified, there are two: existent entities and permanent phenomena; Three: negation and affirmation, definition and defined, and basis of definition; Produced and unproduced, arisen and unarisen; Conditioned and unconditioned, real and not real; Perishing and imperishing, and so forth. This is the general classification, and the extensive specific classification derived from it is the classification of phenomena. Substance and isolate, contradiction and relation, universal and particular; Definition and defined, cause and effect, understanding of existence and non-existence; Is and is not, reversion, affirmative concomitance and negative concomitance; Basis of negation, method of calculation, prior and posterior (forceful); Circular reasoning, and there are thirteen (such categories). These, along with their internal classifications, constitute the establishment of what is to be ascertained. The subject one wishes to know, The predicate that is to be established, And the three reasons of knowledge, Are the causes for positing a logical consequence (prasanga).

And so on, including definitive consequential (reductio ad absurdum) arguments with pervasion and responses. Furthermore, regarding the logic of Collected Topics (Duḍa): If analyzed, no beginning or end is found, nor does it abide in the middle. All assertions will disintegrate. Without beginning or end, and no middle is perceived, Without assertions, and without tenets, At that time, it is the Great Madhyamaka. (122b) As stated, establishing all phenomena of valid cognition as selfless and free from elaboration is the entry into the Madhyamaka view. This is the Collected Topics as expounded by the great beings and masters of reasoning of the precious accomplishment lineage, such as Garwang Chokyi Wangchuk Detailed explanations cannot be condensed here and should be referred to in the original scriptures. However, the meaning of establishing ultimate truth through conventional reasoning is universally consistent. To ascertain the meaning of the scriptures through logical analysis is indispensable. Therefore, I will briefly mention some aspects of initially engaging with Collected Topics: This consists of two parts: first, how to identify the subject, thesis, and reason, and second, how the challenger responds to the proponent. Regarding the first part: For example, in "The vase (subject), it follows that it is impermanent (thesis), because it is produced (reason)." The "vase" is identified as the subject (chos can) or the basis of contention (rtsod gzhi). "Impermanent" is identified as the thesis (bsgrub bya) or the clear (gsal ba). "Produced" is identified as the proof (sgrub byed), or the reason (rtags), or the logical sign (gtan tshig). The second part is explained by slightly elaborating on how the challenger responds to the proponent, and by explaining it concisely. Regarding the first (elaborated explanation), there are two types: valid (tshad ma) and invalid (tshad min). Firstly, a reason (gtan tshig) that is definitively established by valid cognition with three modes is: For example, for the proponent who asserts: "The vase (subject), it follows that it is impermanent, because it is produced." The reason "produced" is definitively established to apply to the subject "vase" as the **minor term** (phyogs chos). The reason "produced" is definitively established not to contradict the predicate or thesis "impermanent" as the **positive concomitance** (rjes 'gro'i tshul). The reason "produced" is definitively established to be necessarily absent where the predicate "impermanent" is absent as the **negative concomitance** (ldog tshul). If these three modes are definitively established by valid cognition, then the responder must give a reply. Secondly, regarding invalid (ma nges pa) reasons, there are three: unestablished (ma grub pa), contradictory ('gal ba), and inconclusive (ma (123a) nges pa). Firstly, the definition of "unestablished" (ma grub pa) is that the proof (reason) is not established on the subject. For example, the vase...
