affliction. \t\t\tThe afflictions from which the noble ones' minds are freed, \t\t\tAnd the nature of the antidote that frees them. \t\t\tThus, the sublime Dharma of realization also has two aspects: the Truth of Cessation and the Truth of the Path. \t\t\tThe first (Truth of Cessation) is, because it is not conceived by discriminating thought and transcends the object of expression, it is inconceivable, being known only by the noble ones; because it is naturally quiescent, it is non-dual; and because it is free from the elaborations of grasping subject and grasped object, it is free from conceptualization. These three characteristics (inconceivable, non-dual, non-conceptual) are what is abandoned by the antidote in the minds of the noble ones, which is the cessation of attachment, the ultimate truth's essence, attained by the power of realization. \t\t\tThe second (Truth of the Path) is, just as the sun's orb is naturally pure and luminous, serving as an antidote to darkness, similarly it purifies the stains of defilements, illuminates virtues, and serves as an antidote to obscurations and afflictions. This stainless wisdom, endowed with three characteristics (purity, luminosity, and antidote capability), along with its retinue, causes one to be freed from attachment, which is the nature of the conventional antidote. \t\t\tFrom the Uttaratantra, it is said: \t\t\tInconceivable, non-dual, non-conceptual, \t\t\tBy the aspect of purity, luminosity, and antidote, \t\t\tThat which is freed from what, and by what one is freed from attachment, \t\t\tThat Dharma, having the characteristics of the two truths. \t\t\tThe nature of freedom from attachment is cessation, \t\t\tAnd is subsumed by the truth of the path. \t\t\tThese in their respective order, \t\t\tShould be understood by three qualities each. \t\t\tBecause it is not conceived, and not expressed, \t\t\tKnown by the noble ones, it is inconceivable. \t\t\tBecause it is quiescent, it is non-dual, non-conceptual, \t\t\tPurity and the other three are like the sun. \t\t\tAs stated. \t\t\tSecond, the explanation of the Dharma of scripture has two parts: 1. A brief presentation; 2. An extensive explanation. \t\t\tThe first (brief presentation) is: \t\t\tScripture, by its nature, has ten aspects. \t\t\tThe well-spoken word (Buddha's teachings) and commentaries explaining its intent, these two. \t\t\tFurthermore, the sublime Dharma of scripture, when classified by its nature, comprises the ten types of well-spoken Buddha's words, and the treatises that explain the intent of these words; these are the two. \t\t\tIn the Sutra Requested by the Son of God, it is said: \t\t\tAll Dharmas are subsumed in the two: the Buddha's word and treatises, \t\t\tNamely, the well-spoken teachings and their commentaries. \t\t\tThus it is said. \t\t\tThe ten aspects are: [text cut off]

In the 'Explanation of the Principles of Analysis,' how is it said to be well-taught? It is by ten aspects: by being truly motivated, by being empowered, by engaging, by being well-demonstrated, by being well-analyzed, by being reliant, by causing understanding, by being posited, by being timely, and by fully encompassing virtues. Thus it is taught. And sequentially, it is: because it is spoken after true complete enlightenment; because it encompasses all sentient beings; because it is spoken continuously, not intermittently; because there is no hidden example from the master; because it is spoken according to the aspirations of sentient beings; because it is spoken with the five branches of voice; because with one sound, it pervades endless worlds; or because it is spoken causing understanding by as many mandalas of retinues as can be reached; because it speaks the path that abandons the two extremes; because it is spoken for those sentient beings who are fully ripened; and because it is spoken possessing sixty virtues. Furthermore, the five branches of voice are: profound like the roar of a dragon (thunder); pleasant and agreeable, delightful to the ear; pleasing to the mind and causing joy; clear and causing precise understanding; worthy of being listened to and without disharmony. These possess five qualities such as vastness, and thus perform five actions such as listening: As the master Vasubandhu said (91n): The five virtues are vastness, Pleasantness, and having clear meaning. Easy to grasp, whatever is desired, These are the five branches. Listening and not being distracted, Comprehending liberation, Causing ripeness, these are, The great Sage's speech has five branches. Thus it is well-taught. The sixty qualities of speech, which appear as sixty-two in the Tathagata's Secret Sutra, are extensively explained individually in the 'Ornament of Omniscience.' The summary is: Worthy of listening, gentle, pleasing to the mind, agreeable, pure. Flawless, clear, agreeable, worthy of being heard. Irresistible, pleasant, tamed, not harsh. Not rough...
