In accordance with this, it is taught. Regarding this, Kuntu Zangpo Longchen Rabjam explained: The Buddha-nature possesses dharmas such as powers and major and minor marks, etc., and he refuted with scriptural citations and reasoning those who assert that the sutras teaching the Buddha-nature are of interpretive meaning. Moreover, he said that this meaning cannot be seen unless taught by a true spiritual friend (virtuous master), and therefore it is proper to rejoice upon receiving this teaching from a qualified lama. If this state is difficult for even Bodhisattvas on the bhumis to comprehend, what need is there to speak of those with mundane vision? Thus, since this is the secret vajra-abode of the Buddhas alone, it is proper to generate joy. Furthermore, if taught by a true lama, it is directly perceived, and naturally, in the bardo, one's own perceptions manifestly arise, which also should give rise to joy. Through such points, he extensively elucidated this extremely profound secret meaning, which can be understood from his (Longchen Rabjam's) scriptures. These points generally explain its pervasion. If its pervasive dharmas are explained in detail, it is said to be characterized by six sets of five modes of appearance and manifestation. That is, within the primordial wisdom of the Buddha-nature itself, the five kāyas, the five wisdoms, the five lights, the five family dharmas, the five wisdom winds, and the five dharmas of essence, nature, and compassion are primordially present as signs. In impure appearances, these correspond to the five afflictions, the five aggregates, the five elements, the five sense faculties, the five desirable objects, and the five dharmas of the three gates of nature. From the *Pearl Garland*: Thus, in that very essence, The five kāyas, five wisdoms, Five lights, five distinct colors, Five dharmas, five wisdom winds indeed, Five essences, five natures, By the five compassions, all are pervaded. Moreover, due to the awareness wisdom primordially abiding in the five kāyas, they now manifest as the five aggregates. Through the spontaneously accomplished appearance of the nature and expanse of awareness, Vairochana is manifested. Due to its unmoving and unchanging nature, Akṣobhya. Due to becoming a treasury of precious excellent qualities, Ratnasambhava. Due to immeasurable light rays, Amitābha. Due to being primordially accomplished as Buddha, Amoghasiddhi and other kāyas abide. Similarly, due to the five wisdoms primordially abiding, they now manifest as the five afflictions. In the state of awareness, the kāyas and pure lands

Because it naturally manifests, it is the Mirror-like Wisdom (58a). Because all are equally perceived, it is the Wisdom of Equality. Because it appears undistorted, it is the Discriminating Wisdom. Because it is spontaneously accomplished from the beginning, it is the All-accomplishing Wisdom. Because all of them are of one taste in their dharmata, it is the Wisdom of the Dharmadhatu. From the five lights, the five elements arose: Because awareness is stainless, it is white light. Because qualities are perfected, it is yellow light. Because it is gathered in awareness, it is red light. Because it is perfected without searching, it is green light. Because it is unchangeable, it is blue light. These are also the purifications of the five consorts (yums). Because there are five families, they manifest as the five sense faculties: The wisdom in the nature of the dharmadhatu suchness travels inconceivably, that is: Because its nature is indivisible, it is the Tathagata family; Because it is unchangeable, it is the Vajra family; Because qualities are perfected, it is the Ratna (Jewel-born) family; Because it is undefiled by karma and afflictions, it is the Padma (Lotus) family; Because it is perfected as the activity or miraculous display of awareness, it is the Karma (Activity) family. Because there are five winds (pranas), they apply to objects in the proximity of the five desirable qualities: Because the warmth of wisdom manifests, it is the accompanying fire-like wind (Samana-Vayu). Because it acts as the basis for the manifestation of samsara and nirvana, it is the life-sustaining wind (Prana-Vayu). Because it makes appearances manifold, it is the wind that separates clear and turbid. Because it pervades both samsara and nirvana, it is the pervading wind (Vyana-Vayu). At the time of awareness, because it acts as the basis for the liberation of samsara into nirvana, it is the karma wind without compassion. These are not moving winds, but are designated as winds of awareness and wisdom due to their aspects. Because there are five dharmas or five wisdoms, they manifest as the five categories of dharmas of the three gates' nature: It is the wisdom that discriminates the basis of samsara and nirvana; Because it is unified within the state of awareness, it is the gathering wisdom; Because it does not depart from awareness, it is the pervading wisdom; At the time of awareness, because it is present precisely as this, it is the wisdom of existence; Alternatively, because it cuts the life (vitality) of both samsara and nirvana, it is the liberating wisdom (58b). Because there is nothing other than awareness, it is called spontaneously arising wisdom. These are not wisdoms of analysis and investigation, but are designated as aspects of awareness and wisdom. If these are not complete in the fundamental awareness itself, then they are not complete in the proximate body and mind. If they are not complete there, then they are not complete in the external objects appearing to the mind. Just as a barren woman has no child, and thus no child's face, and because there is no child's face, it does not appear in a mirror.
