When consciousness arises, it becomes bound, and illusion arises regarding the appearances of the six sense objects. This is due to not recognizing the inherent nature of the foundational appearance. Gradually, as karmic imprints strengthen, the five aggregates, sense faculties and their objects, and other five-fold phenomena arise from the aspect of subject-object dualistic grasping, and the wheel of cyclic existence revolves like a dream, following the manner of the twelve links of dependent origination. Elaborating on this: When the foundational appearance arises from the ground, the wisdom of compassionate potency, which is clear awareness with the capacity to analyze objects, spontaneously arises. In relation to not recognizing its inherent nature, three types of ignorance arise simultaneously: Causal ignorance (ignorance of a single self-nature), which is not recognizing the consciousness itself that has arisen; Co-emergent ignorance, which is not recognizing one's inherent nature, and the co-emergence of that (ignorance) and consciousness; Imagined ignorance, which is the aspect of analyzing one's own appearance as something other. Not recognizing that the foundational appearance arises from oneself is the causal condition. Its appearance as an object is the objective condition. Grasping at "I" and "mine" is the dominant condition. These three occurring simultaneously are mistaken for the fourth condition, the immediately preceding condition. In short, the cause of illusion is ignorance; the condition is the appearance of objects to consciousness. From the inherent nature of ignorance, six types of delusion/obscuration arise. From the *Rang Shar* (Self-Arising) it is said: The root ignorance of mind, and the ignorance of illusory objects; The ignorance of the ground of illusion; The ignorance of grasping thoughts; The ignorance of the contrived path; The ignorance of not knowing (delusion). Thus, six types of ignorance arise, and one does not perceive one's own appearance. So it is said. From that, the six agitated minds of grasping are: The mind that wavers; The consciousness that self-cognizes; Grasping at objects; Definitely grasping at objects; Being distracted by objects; Gross afflictions. Single-pointed internal grasping is the sixth part of delusion. Therefore, one is deluded and wanders in cyclic existence through the manner of the twelve links of dependent origination. Externally, the twelve parts of years and months. Internally, the accumulation of the twelve afflictions creates existence in the twelve sense fields, which arises from the impure engagement with the twelve links of dependent origination. When the foundational appearance arises from the ground, mental consciousness arises from the potency of awareness, and simultaneously with not recognizing its inherent nature, there is ignorance. From that delusion, formations arise. From that, objects... (text incomplete)

by contemplating its aspects, there is consciousness. From that, this is the object, the appearance; thus, it is distinguished by such names. From that, by apprehending the nature of the named entity as form, the first delusion of existence, namely name and form, arises. From that, consciousness arises and spreads upon the six aspects of objects, thus giving rise to the six sense bases. From that, there is contact that apprehends the object. From that, there is feeling, a component of attachment, aversion, and neutrality. From that, there is craving that clings to objects. From that, there is the subsequent grasping agent, and thus the grasping that takes in objects. From that, existence (bhavā) is generated by the uncertain part that appears as multiple delusions and experiences actions. From that, birth arises by being born in the formless, form, and desire realms, thus it is birth (jati). (54b) From that, aging, sickness, and death arise, repeatedly cycling in this manner; thus, the twelve links of dependent origination, which are the causes of cyclic existence, originate initially from fundamental appearance. From that, one should also incidentally know the twelve links of dependent origination at the time of individual delusion in existence: from the obscuration of dharmata, from self-ignorance, arise future formations; seeking a dwelling for consciousness, entering the womb, from the "mer-mer-po" (embryonic stage) and so forth, name and form are constituted; then the six sense bases; contact arises from the convergence of conditions; feelings of happiness and suffering; craving for experience; grasping of objects and karma; further near-grasping of existence; birth from the womb; and the process of the mature aggregates transforming into other states, which is aging and eventually death, thus arising in a continuous causal chain. Thus, during cyclic existence, the five objects such as form arise from the aspect of apprehending the five lights as not being self-manifest; the five defilements arise from the aspect of not knowing the self-nature of the five wisdoms; the five aggregates such as the diverse body and mind arise from the impure self-resplendence of dharmata; the five aspects such as the mind that sustains all arise from the impure five winds; and the five types of self-grasping – self-grasping that holds conceptual thoughts, self-grasping towards various objects, self-grasping towards different movements, self-grasping merely towards the aspects of consciousness, and self-grasping involving the contemplation of phenomena – these five arise from movements not being self-arrested (i.e., not cut off at their root). Thus, regarding the impure phenomena of cyclic existence, by means of knowledge...
