From that, this (treatise) is to be taken as a general commentary on the intent, because it pervades all knowable phenomena. Third, refuting mistaken views: (Some might say) "Tibetan treatises, it is inappropriate to refer to them as being in the language of India, because they were not translated from there." If so, (we reply that) for this, that fault does not exist. Because this (treatise) itself arose relying on the scriptures and commentaries on their intent that originated from the noble land (India), stating it as such truly carries the meaning of being stated reasonably. For example, it is like how a person of Indian ethnicity born in Tibet is still referred to as an Indian. Therefore, just as the treatises of the Tibetan Khenpo Thumi (Sambhota) and the scriptures of the Omniscient Longchenpa (1308-1364 CE) and others properly arose, here, even though imitating their (deeds) is like the analogy of a firefly and the sun, because one desires to follow with a devoted mind, there is no contradiction. Section 2, Second, the statement of homage (Mchod pa) has four parts: 1. Making homage to the glorious guru in Sanskrit; 2. Making homage to the Mighty Sage (Buddha) in accordance with the Three Trainings; 3. Praising the Lion of Speech (Mañjuśrī) in accordance with the path of the pāramitās and supplicating for desired aims; 4. Reverently bowing to the lineage gurus in accordance with the stages of the tantric path. (Namaḥ Śrīmān Sadguru Pādāya) This (phrase), when translated into Tibetan, is: Homage to the feet of the glorious and holy guru. This (part) also has two [aspects]: connection (Mtsams sbyar ba) and explaining the meaning (Don bshad pa). The first (connection) also involves various ways of connecting, such as by necessity, reason, refutation and answer, and question and answer. Here, if connected by necessity, "Homage" is set as the basis for explanation. To whom is homage made? To that glorious and holy guru, who is the supreme of all refuges. By whom is homage made? By the author of the treatise, with great reverence through the three doors (body, speech, and mind). For what necessity is homage made? Primarily, by praising the special object (the guru), disciples will generate faith in them; and by following the holy ones oneself, intelligent beings will initially develop devotion towards such individuals who possess such conduct, and subsequently, considering the treatise explained by them also worthy of acceptance, they will engage with it; and secondarily, it is for the completion of accumulations and for the absence of obstacles.

When should one prostrate? At the beginning of composing a treatise. How should one prostrate? With great reverence of the three gates (body, speech, mind). Second, from the sound "Shri" (Śrī), "Glory" or "Splendor," it signifies the meaning of relying on non-dual wisdom. Based on appearance-emptiness (illusory appearance and emptiness), traversing the path of skillful means and wisdom, one oneself possesses the fruition of the non-dual union of kayas and wisdom, and causes the trainees to also possess it. The Guru, from the sound "Guru," means heavy with qualities; from the sound "Uttara," means supreme; from the sound "Sattra" with its many meanings, in this context it means holy or sacred, having the meaning of supreme excellence, thus becoming the Guru of Gurus. From the King of Tantras, it says: "Whoever's heart and face this Buddha's countenance resides in, that is the glorious Guru." Therefore, the Buddha, symbolized by the four faces of the Kalachakra, having realized the fourth innate wisdom among the four stages of empowerment, and intimately showing it to the trainees through the gate of speech, is thus renowned as the Glorious Guru. At this point, specifically taking as an object the Root Guru who has received a portion of such kindness and blessings, by the implication of "at the feet," it signifies prostrating with extremely great reverence. 2. [Prostrating to the Lord of Sages (Buddha) in accordance with the Three Trainings]: Pure ethics, firm as a golden ground; Immeasurable concentrations, adorned by arrangement of mountains and continents. Wisdom's sun and moon light, illuminating all phenomena; To the Supreme Sage, the fulfiller of all aims, I prostrate. This means: extremely pure, completely free from the faults of worldly beings and lower vehicles. The aggregate of ethical discipline, which comprises the three vows, is firm as the golden ground, serving as the foundation for all good qualities. From the peak of existence downwards, transcending mental activity, the immeasurable aggregate of concentrations, such as valiant progression (dpa' bar 'gro ba), is adorned with unmixed qualities, like the arrangement of Mount Meru, the four continents, and the eight sub-continents. The aggregate of wisdom, which flawlessly comprehends both general and specific characteristics and skillfully realizes the two types of selflessness, illuminates all phenomena as they are and as much as they are, just as the light of the sun and moon illuminates the world. In the world, like Shakya, he is renowned as the Sage (Thub pa).
