The five causes, and the conditions of causes. \t\t\tConsciousness and so forth, immediately upon arising, produce results. \t\t\tAll phenomena suitable to be objects of the six consciousnesses are the objective condition. \t\t\tThat which does not obstruct generation is the dominant condition. \t\t\tThe four types of conditions as taught in the Sutra collections: \t\t\tFirstly, excluding the agentive cause, any of the five concomitant causes (similar cause, all-pervading cause, ripening cause, homologous cause, dominant cause) is called a causal condition. This is because they assist in and generate their respective results. Since unconditioned phenomena also exist as agentive causes, if it were said that all conditioned phenomena are causal conditions, it would contradict this, and thus it is not posited as such. \t\t\tAs for mind and so forth: mind and mental factors, having arisen in the past and present, are substantially identical without other similar categories. Upon their arising (page 44), unimpeded by other similar associated phenomena, they immediately produce their own results; this is called the immediately preceding condition. \t\t\tAll conditioned and unconditioned phenomena that are suitable objects for the six consciousnesses, such as the eye-consciousness, are called the objective condition. Just as the objective condition of the eye-consciousness together with its associated mental factors is the sense-field of form. \t\t\tEverything that does not obstruct the generation of other conditioned phenomena apart from itself is called the dominant condition. This has the same meaning as the agentive cause mentioned above. The phenomena exemplified by this condition are more numerous than those of other conditions. \t\t\tThe mode of generation, function, and so forth, are known from the treatises. \t\t\tIf one were to elaborate in detail on which condition and how many conditions give rise to any given phenomenon, and the manner in which each condition acts at a given time, as well as the way arising and transformation act as conditions, and so forth, it would be endless. If one wishes to comprehend these, one must study treatises such as the Abhidharmakośa. Here, it is mentioned only for the sake of those who are unaware of the classifications and nature of causes and conditions. \t\t\t2. Secondly, according to the higher Abhidharma tradition, there are three explanations: 1. Causes, 2. Conditions, 3. Results. \t\t\t1. Firstly: \t\t\tThe generative agentive cause, mutually assisting and co-arising. \t\t\tElaborated (or "enhanced") equally, endowed with four types of homologous causes. \t\t\tAfflictions pervading, the ripening cause of the body. \t\t\tIf summarized, it is the agentive
