Those of the same kind are mutually co-existent causes, and they are also simultaneously arising causes. For example, just as travelers on the road commonly share food, drink, bathing, bedding, and so forth, everything. The common objects of abandonment by seeing, which are of the nature of defilements, are called all-pervading causes. As explained in the Abhidharmakośa, the eleven latent defilements are designated by the name "all-pervading." Unwholesome phenomena and contaminated wholesome phenomena that are capable of producing a matured result are called maturation causes. For example, like a flawless seed coming into contact with moisture. Indeterminate phenomena are not maturation causes, like a rotten seed. Uncontaminated wholesome phenomena are also not (maturation causes), for although they possess strength, they lack craving, and thus do not bring about maturation, like a vigorous seed that has not received moisture. 2. Secondly, [Explanation of the Five Results]: Arising later from a cause, included in the continuum, Undefiled indeterminate phenomena are the maturation result. Similar to equal fortune and all-pervading is the result similar to its cause. The cessation attained through wisdom is the result of separation. That which is obtained by the power of a cause is the result of activity. From non-obstructive phenomena, the conditioned is the result of mastery. What are the actual natures of the five results? That which arises later from a maturation cause, is included in the continuum of sentient beings, and is undefiled indeterminate phenomena, is the maturation result. For example, wholesome actions lead to higher realms (fortunate rebirths), and unwholesome actions lead to lower realms (unfortunate rebirths). That which arises from either an equal fortune cause or an all-pervading cause, and is similar in kind to it, is the result similar to its cause. For example, killing leads to a short life, and abandoning killing leads to a long life. By wisdom, abandoning what should be abandoned, thereby attaining the exhaustion of defilements, that cessation attained through the power of discernment is the result of separation. For example, the abandonment and realization within the Four Noble Truths. Whatever cause, by its power, whatever result arises and is obtained, that is born from human effort, or is the result of human effort. For example, a farmer ripening crops. Non-obstructive, meaning that which arises from phenomena or conditioned things that do not act as obstacles, not past, but present and future arising, that is the conditioned (result of mastery).

the dominant fruit (vipāka-phala), such as the dominant fruit of virtuous and non-virtuous actions. \t\t\tChapter 3: [Explanation of Common Dharmas] \t\t\tIt is attained by being free from all conditioned phenomena. \t\t\tThe two unconditioned phenomena are considered to be without cause and effect. \t\t\tAs it is said: “What are the resultant dharmas? All conditioned dharmas and cessation through discrimination.” From this, generally speaking, what is called a resultant dharma refers to all conditioned phenomena, and also to nirvana, which is attained by the power of the path's antidote freeing afflictions, or cessations through discrimination. As for space and non-cessation through non-discrimination, these two unconditioned phenomena are considered to be without cause and effect because their cause and effect are not established. This is because they have no arising, thus no producing cause or producing condition; and because they have no time, they cannot hold or generate effects. \t\t\tThe ripened fruit is last, the dominant fruit is first. \t\t\tThe similar-cause fruit is the third, the all-pervading fruit is the fifth, the co-existent cause is the second, and the concomitant cause is the fourth, which are the efficient causes. \t\t\tIf one asks which cause these five fruits originate from: The ripened fruit arises from the ripening cause, which was mentioned last in the section on causes. This is because it is the result of non-virtuous and virtuous (contaminated) actions. (43b) \t\t\tThe dominant fruit is the first efficient cause. This is because it is a fruit controlled by a dominant force. This refers to controlling only what is unobscured and indeterminate. This cause not only concerns what is unobscured and indeterminate, but also produces entities. For example, the five groups of consciousnesses, the eye and other ten sense bases, are produced by an efficient cause, and the container world is also produced by the efficient cause of karma. \t\t\tThe similar-cause fruit arises from the third similar-cause and the fifth all-pervading cause. This is because this fruit is similar to its cause. \t\t\tThe second co-existent cause and the fourth concomitant cause are the causes of the agent's (puruṣa) activity-fruit. The activity or action of an agent is not other than the agent's nature, and its fruit is also the agent itself. Similarly, the activity of these causes is these causes themselves, and their fruits are also these causes themselves. \t\t\tIn detail, the similar-cause, the all-pervading cause, and the efficient cause also have activity-fruits. \t\t\tChapter 4: [Explanation of the Basis of Conditions] \t\t\tThe efficient cause is abandoned
