many. NY3 Third [Explanation of Indestructible Abodes]: Pure lands and Vajra Seat (Bodhgaya), etc., Are indestructible, because they are not fruits produced by all causes. If one thinks: are there worlds that do not undergo formation and destruction? The answer is: the pure lands such as the Sambhogakaya (Enjoyment Body) realms, which are accomplished by the self-manifestation of the wisdom of the Aryas, and Sukhavati (the Land of Bliss) and others, which arise from the power of the Bodhisattvas' vows to purify realms and their inconceivable roots of virtue, do not undergo formation and destruction until the activities of the Buddhas are completed. The Vajra Seat (Bodhgaya) and Vulture Peak Mountain (Gṛdhrakūṭa) (Rajgir), etc., also do not perish along with this world, because even though they are external and internal worlds, they are not results produced by all causes. This is the occasion for expounding on the distinctions of the world, common to both Hinayana and Mahayana. This is the commentary on the second chapter, expounding on the distinctions of the world, common to both Hinayana and Mahayana. Chapter Three: Special Exposition of the Kalachakra System and the Measure of Measurement. NG3 The third section, regarding the structure of the world, specially explains the intention of the Kalachakra system, which has two parts: C1 The main body; and C2 The incidental explanation of the units of measurement. C1 The first part has three: CH1 Explanation of the arrangement of the world (objects); CH2 Explanation of the arrangement of time; CH3 The conclusion of these. CH1 The first of these has seven: J1 Mentioning the source and reason; J2 Explaining the mandala along with Mount Meru; J3 Explaining mountains and continents in general; J4 Explaining the twelve divisions of karma-lands; J5 Explaining the small Jambudvipa (India) along with its six regions; J6 Explaining the state of sentient beings; J7 Explaining the spheres and the conjunction of times. J1 The first is: From the King of Tantras, the First Buddha, Having refuted all mistaken systems, by the power of the union of outer, inner, and other. This means: from the great King of Tantras, the Glorious Kalachakra, the Holy First Buddha, which represents the pinnacle of all Buddhist vehicles, all mistaken systems, such as those of the externalists and the common Hinayana followers like Sravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, who cling to partial views, are refuted. The outer world, in terms of height, is four hundred thousand yojanas.

The inner vajra body itself is four cubits. Other (28b) mandalas are equal in measure to four quarters of a wheel. By binding the essence of the four branches of Approach and Accomplishment or the four vajras, and by purifying the defilements of the four temporary states to be purified, from the reason of manifesting the four stainless Buddha-bodies, the fruit of purification, due to the unification of their purities, this arrangement of space and time arises. \t\t\t2. [Explanation of the Mandala together with Mount Meru] is: \t\t\tIn the midst of space are wind, fire, water, \t\t\tThe earth mandala is round, between the soles of the feet and the waist. \t\t\tMount Meru, with its neck, face, and crown, \t\t\tIs from the waist up to the crown of the head. \t\t\tIn the center of the space element is the dark wind mandala, fifty thousand yojanas in depth. Above that, in sequence, the mandalas of fire, water, and earth are also perfectly round and of equal measure, corresponding to one mandala for each palm-span of the two cubits between the soles of the feet and the waist of the body. \t\t\tThe respective widths of these in the east, west, south, and north directions are: the wind mandala four hundred thousand yojanas, the fire mandala three hundred thousand, the water mandala two hundred thousand, and the earth mandala one hundred thousand. All of them, being perfectly round in circumference, have their respective circumferences three times their widths. \t\t\tAbove that, Mount Meru is one hundred thousand yojanas in height, corresponding to one cubit between the waist and the bottom of the neck. That is the foundational place where the spheres revolve. \t\t\tAbove that, in sequence: Mount Meru's neck is twenty-five thousand [yojanas], Mount Meru's face is fifty thousand, and the crown is twenty-five thousand, summing up to one hundred thousand. Although not physical, terms like "neck" are applied to its mental form, as the causal elements become subtler, encompassing earth, water, fire, wind, and space, and sequentially abandoning the elements from five-fold to two-fold. When related to the body: the neck is six finger-widths, the face is one palm-span, and from the hairline to the crown (29n) is six finger-widths. The total one cubit, when combined, is two cubits from the waist to the crown of the head. \t\t\tCenter green, East blue, North white, South red, \t\t\tWest yellow; all are of the nature of precious jewels. \t\t\tThe color of the center of Mount Meru is green. The East is blue, the North is white, the South is red, and the West is yellow. These are all of the nature of precious jewels.
