Due to numerous errors in oral traditions, there were no treatises truly aligned with China (学说). Later, the Omniscient Dharma Lord Dharmākara (དྷརྨཱ་ཀ་ར) (Dharmaakara, धर्माकर), relying on the cause of recollecting past abodes and the treatises that emerged in his own monastic tradition from scholars like Yuan Wanling (ཡྭན་ཝན་ལིང་) from the Jang Yul (འཇང་ཡུལ་) (Lijiang, Yunnan) region, caused many topics related to reliable Chinese astrology (རྒྱ་རྩིས་) such as the 'Golden Transmutation' (གསེར་འགྱུར་), 'Geomancy' (ས་དཔྱད), 'Life Astrology' (ཚེ་རྩིས་), (220b) the three obstacles of 'Corpse, Demon, and Obstruction' (རོ་བག་ཀེག་གསུམ), and 'Practical Result Calculations' (ཉེར་མཁོའི་འབྲས་རྩིས་), within the 'Mirror of Magical Existence' (སྲིད་པ་འཕྲུལ་གྱི་མེ་ལོང་) to appear. --- ### J2. Part Two: [Poetics] Poetics renowned among outsiders is Bharata (བྷ་ར་ཏ་) (Bharata, भरत), 'Eight Messengers' (ཕོ་ཉ་བརྒྱད་) and others were created by the Black Goddess's Slave (ནག་མོའི་ཁོལ་པོ) (Kālidāsa), 'Mirror of Poetics' (མེ་ལོང་) was composed by Dandin (དཎྜི་) (Daṇḍin, दण्डिन्), with many Indian commentaries. --- ### Treatises on Poetics The treatises on rhetorical adornments and poetics are very famous among the proponents of non-Buddhist (outsider) doctrines. Previously, at a time when beings lived for twenty thousand years, it is said that the treatise 'Bharata' (བྷ་ར་ཏ་) (Bharata, भरत), containing over one hundred thousand shlokas, was composed by the sage Vyasa (དྲང་སྲོང་རྒྱས་པ) with Ganesha (ཚོགས་བདག་) acting as the scribe. Additionally, there are the 'Poetry of Meditative Dharma' (སྙན་དངགས་སྒོམ་པའི་ཆོས་) made by the maiden who enters like fire; the 'Rāmāyaṇa' (རཱ་མ་ཎ་ཡ་ན་) (Raamaayana, रामायण) made by Grogkharpa (གྲོགས་མཁར་བ) (Valmiki); the 'Aṣṭadaśa Purāṇa' (ཨཥྚ་ད་ཤ་པུ་རཱ་) (Ashtadasha Puraana, अष्टादश पुराण) made by Markaṇḍeya (མརྐེཎྜེ་ཡ) (Markandeya, मार्कण्डेय); and the 'Raghuvaṃśa' (ར་གྷུ་ཝཾ་ཤ་) (Raghuvaṃśa, रघुवंश) and others made by Ramaśarma (ར་མ་ཤྲ་མ) (Raamasharma, रामशर्म)—though many such treatises by sages are renowned, they did not arrive in Tibet. Later, among the many famous treatises, including the 'Eight Messengers' (ཕོ་ཉ་བརྒྱད་) such as the renowned 'Cloud Messenger' (སྤྲིན་གྱི་ཕོ་ཉ་) (Meghaduta) and 'Youthful Arising' (གཞོན་ནུ་འབྱུང་བ་), and others made by the Black Goddess's Slave (ནག་མོའི་ཁོལ་པོ) (Kālidāsa), the treatise on rhetorical adornments called 'Mirror' (མེ་ལོང་) (Kāvyādarśa), which truly compiles the excellent qualities of all previous treatises, was authored by the non-Buddhist paṇḍita, the master Dandin (དཎྜི་) (Daṇḍin, दण्डिन्), also known as 'the one with a staff' (དབྱུག་པ་ཅན་), who was skilled in both Buddhist and non-Buddhist doctrines, and it has many Indian commentaries, both Buddhist and non-Buddhist. Later, the great commentary (ṭīkā) by Ratnaśrī (རཏྣ་ཤྲཱི) (Ratnashrii, रत्नश्री) and Ngawang Dragpa (ངག་དབང་གྲགས་པ) came into the possession of Je Dharmākara (རྗེ་དྷརྨཱ་ཀ་ར) (Dharmaakara, धर्माकर). Among the many Tibetan commentaries that appeared earlier and later by figures such as Pang Lotsawa Jamyang Kashmir (དཔང་ལོ་འཇམ་དབྱངས་ཁ་ཆེ), Drampa Saṅghaśrī (སྒྲ་པ་སངྒྷ་ཤྲཱི) (Saṅghaśrī, संघश्री), Rinpungpa (རིན་སྤུངས་པ), and the Tibetan scholar Mipham Namgyal (མི་ཕམ་རྣམ་རྒྱལ), the 'Excellent Explanation: Ocean of Verbal Play' (ལེགས་བཤད་ངག་གི་རོལ་མཚོ་) authored by Khenpo Tenpe Nyima (བསྟན་འཛིན་ཆོས་ཀྱི་ཉི་མ་) from Khampa Rinpoche, which is a spoken tradition of the Omniscient Great One, is especially distinguished. --- ### J3. Part Three: [Prosody] Prosody explained by Grogkharpa (གྲོགས་མཁར་བ) (Valmiki), the victorious deity, Was established according to the system of the Red-Yellow One.

Furthermore, the wondrous composition (221a), 'Poison-Bearing Jewel Mine' (Rin 'byung zhi ba), was created by Shijin. Regarding the method of properly composing verses, the science of prosody (sdeb sbyor) is renowned to have been first expounded by the Rishi Anthill (Valmiki). Once, a Nāga (serpent deity) was marking out a Prastāra (arrangement of meters) on the sand by the seashore when a Garuda (sky-goer) attempted to devour it. The Nāga said, 'Do not eat me until this is finished.' The Garuda acted accordingly, and when it was complete, the Garuda understood the meaning, realizing that the Nāga had become its guru. It then begged forgiveness and allowed the Nāga to dwell wherever it pleased. This Nāga king is known as Shesha (Lhag-ma can) or the Rishi Pingala (Dmar-ser can). Although Jayadeva (rgyal ba'i lhas) composed a commentary on this treatise, and its teaching and study flourished, it was devoid of eight qualities: Concise and clear verses, Serving as examples for the sutras themselves, Unmixed, sequential, easy to recite, Endowed with stability and collection, these are the eight qualities. Therefore, the treatise on prosody, 'Jewel Mine' (Rin 'byung) with its root text and commentary, possessing six wondrous applications, was composed by the Omniscient Shijin (Rin 'byung zhi ba) during a period of debate. Although there are examples composed by Acharya Pal Yeshe (dPal Ye-shes), and many commentaries and examples by Je Gye-pa, Minling Lotsawa, and others in Tibet, the later commentary (ṭīkā) composed by Jamyang Lama Gyurme Tenzin Phelgye (Jamgön Lama Gyurmed Tendzin Phelgyas) is exceedingly clear and excellent. Furthermore, the treatise on prosody, 'Understanding through Hearing' (Thos pas chub pa), with its root text and commentary, composed by the sage Kṛṣṇa Miśra (Kṛṣṇa Miśra), was newly translated by the Omniscient Sun of the Doctrine (Künkhyen Tenpai Nyinjye), being a treatise previously unknown. D4. Fourth [Abhidhāna (Lexicography)] is: Though there are many works on lexicography (abhidhāna) such as Medini, Nānārthasaṁgraha (Sna-tshogs gsal), Hārāvali, and those composed by Drägpo'i 'bangs (Harāvali and fierce servants), the 'Treasury of the Immortal Lion' (Amara-koṣa) itself is supreme. Its Indian commentaries include 'Moon of Nectarous Words' (Amṛta-vacana), 'Wish-Fulfilling Cow' (Kamadhenu), etc., the latter being newly translated. The treatises on dramatic arts (nāṭyaśāstra) have not been translated into Tibetan. Regarding treatises on lexicography of names, in India there are many such as Medini-kara, Nānārthasaṁgraha composed by Paṇḍita Śrīdhara, Hārāvali, and those composed by Drägpo'i 'bangs (Harāvali and fierce servants). Although there are many such works, the great master Amara, who was supported by the noble ones
