破律(Khrom 'Joms)杀善(Gsod Dge Ba),老者医成(Rgan 'Tsho Byed Grub); 具力(Mthu Can)思辨(Rtog Ldan),不札(Bhunza)长寿(Tshe Bratan)也。 (Phyag Rgya)...

Regarding the composition of the 'Eight Branches' by Phakol: Zla Ba Mngon Dga' composed the commentary 'Zla Zer'. This treatise, called 'Eight Branches' (Yan Lag Brgyad Pa), comprising 120 chapters, is exceptional among all medical texts, having distilled the excellent essence from the treatises of Brahma and many Rishis. At the time of its composition, three wondrous auspicious signs appeared in the realm of the Nagas below, and three in the realm of the Devas above. In the human realm, twelve signs appeared, totaling eighteen auspicious and excellent miraculous signs across the three realms. This treatise was authored by the physician Gedun Sangwa'i Bu, also known as 'Medicine Vase' (Sman Gyi Bumbu), or by various names such as Phakol, due to his reverence for his father. Scholars have also debated whether this author was the same person as Acharya Asvaghosa (Slob Dpon Dpa' Bo). In any case: The merchant chief Kun Kyong, is the lord of wealth; Kaniska, is the lord of armies; The beautiful 'Od Ldan, is the lord of gardens; The glorious Phakol, is the lord of medicine. This renowned Phakol also composed two texts on his own treatise: a Difficult Commentary and a Supplement. His student, who originated from Kashmir (Kha Che'i Yul Du), was named Pal Chen Dge Ba'i Bu Brgyud, a genuine physician. He, being greatly fond of the moon (Zla Ba La Mngon Par Dga' Bas), composed the extensive commentary 'Zla Zer,' explaining the meaning of words, and also authored 'Sman Ming Zur Bkol' (Separate Use of Medicine Names) and 'Sgra Sbyor Nges Pa' (Determining Phonetics). Then, according to the teachings of Brang Ti Pal Ldan 'Tsho Byed, the lineage is as follows: The hero Zla Dga' (Joyful Moon), the supreme joy-giver (Dga' Byed Dam Pa); The heart (Yul Snying) of all life (Kun 'Tsho), long youth (Ring Gzhon) is certainly found. The breaker of laws (Khrom 'Joms), killer of goodness (Gsod Dge Ba), the old healer Grub ('Tsho Byed Grub); The powerful (Mthu Can), contemplative (Rtog Ldan) Bhunza (Bhunza) of long life (Tshe Bratan). The skillful (Thabs Dge), supremely faithful (Dad Mchog) Janadhana (Jana Dhana); From there, the great translator Rinzin (Lo Chen Rin Bzang) successively continued the lineage. Thus it is stated. Zhang Ston Zhig Po also explained other lineage traditions, such as 'Tsho Byed Grub tracing back to Zla Dga'. The second part [on its spread to China]: Since the beginning of the Perfect Age (Rdzogs Ldan 'Jug) in the land of China (Rgya Nag Yul Du), Incarnated kings and ministers successively compiled texts. Extensive accounts of how incarnated kings and ministers successively compiled medical texts in the land of China since the beginning of the Perfect Age are found in the 'New Report on the Introduction to Medicine' by a Chinese medical master. To illustrate briefly here: The first of the five Dhi Yi (Dhi Lnga Yi) Chinese (Rgya Nag) kings, Spa Zhi Dhi Sa, composed the hand gestures (Phyag Rgya Bar Tsa) of the Eight Trigrams (Spar Kha Brgyad)...

Knots on strings were formed into written characters, and thus writing first emerged. People learned the causes of unknown things, such as diseases. Afterwards, Emperor Shennong (Zhinghung) tasted trees and herbs, establishing the tradition of medical diagnosis and treatment. Subsequently, Emperor Huangdi (Hangti) revered Master Qifa (Khye Pha), who was skilled in pulse diagnosis, and he became renowned as Lharje (Divine Physician). He composed the Sutra of Pulse Inquiry. Then, following the emperor's command, Wu Gung (Wu’i Kung) became expert in medicine and extensively wrote the twelve chapters of the Sutra on bloodletting and moxibustion. Afterwards, the extremely learned Lharje Wu Di (Wu'i Ti) composed the twenty-one chapters of the Sutra Commentary: Self-Liberation from Doubt. During the reign of Emperor Han (Han), two renowned physicians, Zhong Zhong (Jung Jung) and Hua Tuo (Ha Tho), among others, appeared successively. Many skilled physicians and numerous major and minor treatises emerged, and later, during the fourth generation of the Qin (Tsin) dynasty, Emperor Qianlong (Khyen Nong) also composed a great medical treatise, which seemed to have fallen into the hands of the Great Omniscient One. (214b) 3.3. The third part [On the Manner of Spread in China] also has three sections. 3.3.1. How the doctrine arose during the early spread. 3.3.2. How it arose during the later spread. 3.3.3. How the activities based on the Glorious Four Tantras (Gyud Bzhi) arose. 3.3.1. The first is: During the time of Songtsen, the treatises of the three great systems, During the time of Trisong Detsen, the methods of the Chinese queen, And those translated and compiled by Hwa Shang Biji and others were numerous. From the discussions of many scholars, the Somaraja emerged. During the reign of Songtsen Gampo (Songtsen Gampo), Princess Wencheng (Wenshing Kongjo) brought treatises on medicine and astrology, which were translated by the two monks, Mahadeva (Maha Deva) and Dharmakosha (Dharma Kosha). From India, Bharadvaja (Bha Ra Dhwa Dza); from China, Han Wang Hwang (Han Wang Hwang); and from Persia (Ta Zig), a physician named Galen (Ga Le Nus) were invited. They translated works such as the major and minor Mother and Son treatises, scattered Chinese medical diagnostics, and summarized essential teachings. The three physicians discussed and created what became known as the "Weapon of Fearlessness," a treatise of the three great systems. From Galen (Ga Le Nus) arose the lineage of physicians known as Dzo Ro (Dzo Ro). During the time of Mes Agtsom (Trisong Detsen), the medical and astrological treatises brought by the Chinese Empress Kimshing Kongjo (Gya Mo Zaa Kyi Ma Shong Kongjo) were translated by Hwashang Mahakyinda (Hwa Shang Ma Ha Kyin Da), Khyungpo Tsitsi (Khyungpo Tsi Tsi), Do Tsug Gyaphrug Garkhen (Do Tsug Gya Phrug Gar Khen), Chogla Monbar (Chog La Mon Bar), and others. From the land of Khrom (Khorasan), the skilled physician Biche Tsanpashilaha (Bi Che Tsan Pa Shi La Ha) was invited.
