In response to the question: \t\t\tThree months are summer, three months are autumn, thus it should be known. \t\t\tAnd nine stanzas such as these, \t\t\tOf which the major part has been translated into China (Gyana). \t\t\tI now rely upon the ancient Rishis' (sages'), \t\t\tTreatise on the healing of diseases. \t\t\tAnd these somewhat elaborate explanations were also spoken by the former merchant-prince Ralpajin, repeating the words he had previously expounded according to the tradition of the Rishis. \t\t\tFrom the Tantra of the Ocean of Dakinis (Khandro Gyatso, folio 212b): \t\t\tTherefore, for the benefit of all sentient beings, \t\t\tEverything has been condensed into its essence. \t\t\tAnd such methods of elixir-making (Chudlen), \t\t\tAnd such past times and occurrences, \t\t\tIn the first great eon of bliss. \t\t\tAnd such information about the origin of mercury and its application methods, the separate classifications of the six tastes, and the good and bad growth locations of various medicines and precious jewels, were briefly mentioned. \t\t\tEven when it is extremely cold and clouds gather, \t\t\tEspecially towards the end of summer, \t\t\tAnd such ways in which diseases accumulate, arise, and subside in the four seasons were briefly described. \t\t\tAlso from the Glorious Kalachakra (Tantra): \t\t\tIn this body, all mental aggregates arise from eating and drinking the six tastes. \t\t\tAnd such principles of body formation, \t\t\tSalty and sour tastes that subdue wind (disorders) will greatly increase them; sweet and bitter tastes are enemies of bile. \t\t\tAnd such methods of administering internal and external medicines, \t\t\tThe thorn-like demons that instill fear of death are surely subdued. \t\t\tAnd such protection against smallpox and other diseases, methods of healing, elixir-making (Chudlen), mechanisms for safe delivery of pregnant women, and the methods of transference of the life-force location, etc., were expounded in accordance with the Vedas such as the Ayurveda (Science of Life) and Kama Shastra (Treatise on Desire). Furthermore, in the Tantra of Red Yamantaka and others, many scattered teachings on curing minor ailments and elixir-making (Chudlen) are also found. \t\t\tDuring the time when the Teacher (Buddha Shakyamuni) was present, great physicians who surpassed human abilities also appeared, such as the guru-physician Gyunshe Kyi Bu (Son of Constant Knowledge) of King Padma Nyingpo (Lotus Heart) of Dozhog (Stone Dweller), and his disciple, the great physician Tsoje Chenpo Zhonnu (Great Healer Youth). However, it is not known that they composed treatises. \t\t\tFurthermore, from the Vibhajyavada (folio 213a): \t\t\tIn the medicinal forest, for four years

圣者龙树(Nāgārjuna)足下,依靠仙人(Rishi)诸论典,撰写了《百种合药》(Jorwa Gyapa)等,其中包含《养生经颂》(Tsowa'i Do Tsigsu Bechay Pa)、《阿瓦根法》(Tsa A Wa'i Choga)、《大医药次第》(Men Chenpo'i Rimpa)、《水银合药宝鬘》(Ngulchu'i Jorwa Rinchen Trengwa)、《点金术》和《香料合药》等。

…Thus it appears. Therefore, at that time, some assert that the Glorious Four Tantras and so forth were taught, which is also visible. Relying on the erroneous speech of *Rinchen Pungpa*, Though much noisy chatter is made about this preamble, The teachings of Zurkhar Phyi Ma are indeed excellent explanations. Some consider the treatise *Rinchen Pungpa*, which is explicitly stated to have been composed by the three sons including Tsenpa Shilaha, to be the Buddha's word. And based on most of its erroneous statements, some scholars renowned in Tibet engage in much noisy chatter regarding such preambles. However, the comprehensive refutations and establishments made by Zurkhar Phyi Ma Lekshe Tsol (Good Explanation Seeker) in his *Medical Outline* and similar works are truly excellent explanations that accord with the meaning, as asserted by the venerable Tanpai Nyinjye (Sun of the Teachings) and his sons. Third, [finally mentioning how it spread in India, China, and Tibet] is divided into three: 1. In the noble land (India), 2. In China, and 3. The manner of its spread in Tibet. First, in the noble land (India): Thereafter, Nyima Sungwa composed *Gechu Grubpa*, And the Noble One (Nagarjuna) composed *Jorwa Gyapa* and so forth. After the Victorious One (Buddha) appeared in the world, in the western part of the noble land (India), the physician Nyima Sungwa, who emerged from the lineage of charioteers, composed the treatise *Gechu Grubpa*. However, because it did not fully encompass the eight branches (of medicine), one who knows this is not considered a physician, just as one who knows Kālāpa grammar is not considered a grammarian. From the *Treasury of Verses* (Tsigsu Bechay Pai Zod) it is said: 'A grammarian who knows a brief tantra, A physician who knows *Gechu Grubpa*, A vagrant who carries a staff, These three are objects of worldly ridicule.' The venerable Nagarjuna, relying on the treatises of the Rishis, composed *Jorwa Gyapa* (Hundred Prescriptions) and other works, including *Tsowa'i Do Tsigsu Bechay Pa* (Sutra on Longevity in Verse), *Tsa A Wa'i Choga* (Root Awa Ritual), *Men Chenpo'i Rimpa* (Stages of Great Medicine), *Ngulchu'i Jorwa Rinchen Trengwa* (Mercury Compounding Jewel Garland), and methods for *gold transformation* and *fragrance compounding*. In the histories of Gwalo's (Rgya lo) tradition of the *Four-Armed Chapter* (Phyag Bzhi Pa), it is also stated that the Noble One (Nagarjuna) invited the *Black Tantra* along with the *Medical Tantra* and other texts from the Eastern Land of No Sorrow (Mya Ngen Mepa'i Yul), the vital fortress of Chos Bzang Sprin Gyi Yang Rzong, and the self-arisen stupa. Especially the *Treatise Essence Well-Compiled*, Possessing eighteen auspicious signs of the three realms. Branch (of...)
