When (he) made the vow, Indra, however, commanded, "Please show what you know!" Because of the vow, he remained silent during the four inauspicious times and guarded it, while explaining it to others, as recorded in ancient Tibetan history. These four inauspicious times were considered by the people of Āryavarta (India) not only as inauspicious times for sounds (grammar) but also as general inauspicious times for all recitations. From *Swift News* (199a): On the eighth day, the abbot is destroyed. On the fourteenth day, the disciple is destroyed. On the empty day (new moon), both are destroyed. On the fifteenth day, all are destroyed. For example, like an army firm on the battlefield, Struck by the arrows of the Ganga-born (Bhīṣma). The very knowledge/understanding (or intellect) Of the manner of recitation on the first day Becomes small/diminished. Thus, it is also explained as the five inauspicious times. 2. The second part [how it spread in the human realm] has four sections: 1. Pāṇini, 2. Candra, 3. Kālāpa, 4. Sarasvatī Vyākaraṇa (grammar) including its supplement. 1. The first is: The prophesied grammarian brahmin Pāṇini. The root text blessed by the Lord of the World (Ishvara/Shiva), Explained by Vārttikakāra (Kātyāyana) and Mahābhāṣya (Patañjali). Bhāṣya (commentary) with root commentary, and Candrakīrti's *Prakaraṇa*, Śākaṭāyana's *Rūpāvātāra*, and works by Gaṇapāṭha's son and others followed that. From the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: "The grammarian is Pāṇini." And from the *Mañjuśrīmūlakalpa*, it is said that a brahmin named Pāṇini, prophesied by the Victorious One himself, was born in the Bhīrukā grove in the western part of Āryavarta (India). When he consulted a palm reader about whether he knew grammar, it was prophesied that he would not know it. So, he himself modified his palm lines with a small knife and served all the grammar masters on earth. Although he became proficient in grammar, he was still not satisfied. He then practiced the vidyā-mantra of the Lord of the World (Ishvara/Shiva), and the Noble One appeared before him. When asked what he desired, he replied that he wished to master grammar. Merely by the Noble One uttering the collection of letters such as (ཨ་ཨི་ཨུཎ་, अइउण्, aiun, a, i, u, ṇ), by the blessing of the Noble One, he came to know all the domains of grammar in the three realms. Thus, he composed the *Pāṇini Vyākaraṇa* (grammar) of a thousand verses and the *Vyākaraṇa Sūtra* of a thousand verses. (199b) Prior to this, it is stated in various treatises that Śāriputra taught the grammar of Indra to the non-Buddhists for twelve years.

Since there is no treatise among Buddhists that compiles all applications of grammar into one place, these two treatises are like the root or original source of all grammatical texts. In order for King Bhartrhari to learn grammar, the Brahmin Vararuci (Mchog sred), through the power of vidya-mantra, invoked the Naga king Shesa (Lhag ma can) and had him explain Panini's commentary in one hundred thousand verses. A curtain was placed between the master (Vararuci) and the Naga, and the Naga expounded, while Vararuci wrote it down. At one point, wondering what the Naga's body looked like, he lifted the curtain and saw a huge coiled serpent. The Naga, embarrassed, fled. At that time, only twenty-five thousand verses of the commentary were completed, so the remaining twelve thousand verses were composed by Vararuci himself, and this is famously known as the Mahabhasha. These treatises, along with their commentaries, continue to be taught and studied in India (Phags yul) without decline to this day. Furthermore, there is the Bhasha composed by a great being, consisting of about nine hundred root verses with its own commentary. There is also the Rab byed zla zer (Moonbeam Section) composed by Ramachandra. And the Gzugs kyi 'jug pa (Application of Forms), a commentary on the meaning of Panini, composed by the glorious Dharmakirti. Treatises belonging to Panini's school, such as those by Sakatayana and Katyayana, followed that master. Although it is said that the root text of Panini's treatise was later translated by the translator Darpa, it was not translated accurately. T.2 Second, [regarding Chandrapa]: The well-compiled, concise, clear, and complete Chandra Sutra, From numerous commentaries and auxiliary treatises, both one's own and others', The root text was first translated and explained by Shonglo. As prophesied in the later Kalachakra Tantra, the master named Chandragomin, who was born in a place called Varendra in eastern India, knew all common sciences such as grammar and logic without having studied them. At the age of seven, he was able to defeat non-Buddhist debaters. (page 200na) He received transmission from the master Ashvaghosha. By accomplishing the vidya-mantras of Avalokiteshvara and Tara, he attained accomplishment and became a great scholar. Encouraged by the noble Avalokiteshvara, Gomin (Chandragomin) adopted the conduct of a lay practitioner. He possesses inconceivable and wondrous biographies, and it is said that he still physically resides in Potala. He praised (something). The treatise on inner science...
