Pa. \t\t\tThe tenth is: transmitted from Khugom. \t\t\tThe eleventh is: the type of thunder, hail, and planetary guardians. \t\t\tThe twelfth is: the Chöd of geomancy, nāgas, gnyan, and local deities. \t\t\tThe thirteenth is: like the heart essence of profound meaning. \t\t\tThe fourteenth is: the hundred-knot mother and those not systematically arranged, indicated by clear words. \t\t\tThe fifteenth is: the scattered types of a hundred thousand visualizations. \t\t\tThe sixteenth is: the traditions of one root, three branches, common non-obscure, and special experiential sections; within these, the individual Dharma teachings and pith instructions are boundless. \t\t\tThe six illustrative examples are: Chöd is like a white snow mountain. Just as a snow mountain is white whether it snows or not, for a Chöd practitioner, having wisdom from learning is good, but it is also acceptable not to have it. \t\t\tIt is like a lion. Just as it overwhelms many and is fearless when alone, a Chöd practitioner may accompany many or travel alone. \t\t\tIt is like the sound of a great drum. Just as it is acceptable for a great drum to have other musical sounds or not, here it makes no difference whether there are other virtuous companions or not. \t\t\tIt is like a spring of siddhis (accomplishments). Just as spring water flows commensurate with the number of people, in this tradition, one can practice according to one's individual capacity and measure of understanding. \t\t\tIt is like a broken piece of gold or turquoise. (194b) Just as a large piece has great value and a small piece also has corresponding value, if one knows the extensive cycles of Chöd, the qualities are immeasurable, and even knowing a little benefits oneself and others. \t\t\tIt is like the hair of a good horse. Just as an excellent horse has a fine physique and gait regardless of its hair color, it is said that a person who has perfected the Chöd practice, whether of high or low status, has greater blessings than others. \t\t\tChapter 7: Elucidating the Origin of Vajra Yoga, which has two parts: 1. Identifying the traditions; 2. Explaining their individual lineages. \t\t\tThe first is: \t\t\tThe essence taught by the extensive root tantras, \t\t\tThe peak of all Vajra Yoga perfection stages. \t\t\tThe *Root Kālacakra Tantra* of twelve thousand stanzas, the *Root Hevajra Tantra* of fifty thousand stanzas, the *Samvara Abhidhāna Tantra* of one hundred thousand stanzas, the *Root Guhyasamāja Tantra* of twenty thousand...

Fifth, it is the essence of all perfect stages clearly elucidated in unison by the root and extensive tantras, such as the thirty-six thousand verses of the *Vajrabhairava Sequence of Awareness* and the sixteen thousand verses of the *Illusory Net*. It is the foundation of all two stages taught by the Unsurpassed Tantra, associated with the Six-limbed Yoga of the Three Vajras. It is the pinnacle of all yogas, renowned like the sun and moon in both the Noble Land (India) and Tibet. Next, the second section, [Separate Accounts of the Lineages], has five parts: 1. How it appeared in the Noble Land (India); 2. How it became generally known in Tibet; 3. The seventeen specific traditions; 4. Other traditions; 5. The identification of special and distinguished systems. 1. The first part (How it appeared in the Noble Land) is: This (teaching) originated well from the words of the Dharma King Kulika (Rigden), From the Great and Lesser Kalachakrapada, Shavaripa, From the incomparable Siddha Acharya (Pema Metso), and Suryashri Jnana, From Naropa, Kashmiri (Pandita), Shantipa's (Zhi sbas) traditions and so on. This (teaching) originated well, word-to-word and mind-to-mind, from the words of the seven Dharma Kings such as Chandrabhadra and the Vajra Kulikas such as Manjushri Kirti. Although this (teaching) also appeared in the Noble Land (India) from ancient times, it was the Great Kalachakrapada who made it widely known to all beings. Therefore, he is considered the founder of this tradition's chariot (system) and is placed at the beginning of all traditions. Subsequently, the Lesser Kalachakrapada; the close transmission by the Great Siddha Shavaripa; the Great Siddha Pema Metso (the Incomparable Living One), who was personally embraced by the Kalachakra; his follower Suryashri Jnana; the disciple of Kalachakrapada, Pandita Naropa; the Kashmiri Pandita Shakya Shri; and later, the tradition of the accomplished master Shantipa (Zhi ba sbas pa), and many others emerged. The term "las" (ལས་) here refers to the source of what follows. 2. The second part, [How it became generally known in Tibet], is: In Tibet, the four early comers and the five middle comers, And the two later comers are widely renowned. This means that in the land of Tibet, many individuals spread this (teaching) both early and late. Among them, the traditions of Kyijo, Dro (Lotsawa), Ra (Lotsawa), and Dingri Chokyi Drakpa are the four early comers. The Kashmiri Pandita, Manlungpa, Vibhuti, Tharlo Nyima Gyaltsen, and Orgyenpa are the five middle comers. Panchen Lodrö Gyaltsen and Sangye Palwa Gönpo are the two later comers, and they are widely renowned.
