The Zurmang Kagyu, who sequentially uphold the monastic seats of the dharma lineage through the tantras. The Namdo Kagyu, who uphold the tradition of Karma Chakme (Karma Chagmed), the accomplished emanation of Avalokiteshvara, a direct disciple of the Tenth Karmapa Choying Dorje and the Sixth Garwang Chokyi Wangchuk, thus forming three [lineages]. The latter, due to the special interdependent aspirations of Namdo Karma Chakme, primarily adheres to the Karma (Kamtsang Karma Kagyu) tradition, which is the root dharma lineage of Namdo. And the Palyul Rigdzin Kunzang Sherab, an emanation of Vimalamitra, the Khampa Dzogchenpa Pema Rigdzin (187a), and others who primarily uphold the Nyingma tradition, have spread their dharma lineages across most of the lower Dokham region. \t\t\tEspecially when the practice doctrine had reached the western peak, \t\t\tThe joyful Lotsawa, a deliberate emanation, \t\t\tSpread the light that makes the doctrine bright as day. \t\t\tIn ancient times, even though the Kagyu tradition and its accomplished practitioners spread across most of Jambudvipa and its surrounding islands, in later times, the Buddha's doctrine generally became a mere reflection. Especially when the sun of the precious practice lineage seemed to have reached the western mountain (declined), the joyful Lotsawa Marpa intentionally manifested as an incarnate lama, who is Karma Tenpai Nyinje Tsuglag Chokyi Nangwa, or more famously known by the name Tai Situ Thame Khyenpa Chokyi Jungne, through the spreading of his great light of wisdom, compassion, and power, reconnected the life-root of the practice lineage. \t\t\tThe accomplished masters of Dagyue Kagyu are like the dust motes of the earth, \t\t\tAs long as the Buddha's doctrine does not cease, it excels above all. \t\t\tThus, the incomparable Dagyue Kagyu has produced accomplished masters as numerous as the dust motes of the great earth, performing deeds for the doctrine and sentient beings, whose dharma lineage, etc., cannot be described in detail. \t\t\tNaropa said: \t\t\t"The dharma lineage is as long as the river's course." \t\t\tAnd so on. As prophesied to Jetsun Marpa, that the lineage of experience and realization would not cease as long as the Victorious One's doctrine endures, this lineage, which upholds the doctrine of realization through practice, is superior to all other philosophical schools. \t\t\tJ.5 The fifth, explaining the tradition of Shangpa Kagyu, has two parts: N.1 Identifying the tradition; N.2 Describing the nature of each individual lineage.

Firstly, Of one hundred and fifty Wisdom Dakinis, Panditas, and Siddhas, The ultimate mind-treasure, possessed of the five, was received by Khyungpo (the yogi). The ultimate essence of the three paths of explanation, debate, and practice, The five cycles of Dharma that became the root Golden Dharma (the Five Golden Dharmas). (Page 187 verso) From Vajradhara himself, Yeshe Dakini Niguma and Sukhasiddhi, these two, thirteen eminent lamas, four root lamas, and so forth, Khyungpo Naljor, the ultimate one endowed with the five, received the complete mind-treasure of Dharma from one hundred and fifty scholars and accomplished ones. Furthermore, although the scholar and accomplished Khyungpo Naljor gradually became learned and and attained accomplishments in Bön and Nyingma traditions, because the aspiration prayer for Bodhicharyavatara ripened in due course, he sought profound Sutra and Tantra Dharma from the noble land (India). Tummo, the ultimate delightful creation; Karma Mudra, the ultimate Chakrasamvara; Illusory Body and Clear Light, the ultimate Guhyasamaja; Dream Yoga, the ultimate Mahamaya; and Enlightened Activity, the ultimate Vajrabhairava – these five tantra classes, by actually achieving accomplishment in the five places of the body, exemplifying those who attained wisdom bodies like Tsönmda' Mönzhap and others, without duality, he dwelled on the level of accomplishment. This established his monastic seat in Zhangzhung of Shang (Shang Valley), Right Ru of Tsang (a region now primarily within Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet), hence he was known as Lama Shangpa, and his lineage holders became known as Shangpa Kagyu. Having lived for one hundred and fifty years, and having turned countless Dharma wheels with inconceivable great miraculous powers, if those traditions are summarized, they are gathered into the three sequential paths of explanation, debate, and practice: In the stage of explanation, the Sutras and their commentaries, the Tantras and their commentaries, the four great philosophical tenets of the Paramitayana, and the four great tantra classes of the Vajrayana were properly explained. In the stage of debate, although he also heard the traditions of later logicians such as the Seven Treatises on Valid Cognition, primarily, similar to what is known among early logicians, by establishing the three characteristics with the four great reasons, and by classifying valid cognition into three: direct perception, inference, and reliable authority, he thoroughly resolved refutations and replies. (Page 188 recto) In the stage of practice, he taught all the practices of the causal Paramitayana and the resultant Vajrayana, condensed into essential instructions through the common and special key points of the thirty-seven factors conducive to enlightenment. Thus, he came to the Land of Snows (Tibet).
