Having relied on many (masters), he received the Chakrasamvara (Demchog) empowerments according to Naropa's (Naropa) tradition, along with tantra explanations and oral instructions, and made many translations concerning the Dharma cycles of Chakrasamvara. In the land of Tibet (Bod), he also had many students. Furthermore, various lineages arose from listening to (teachings from) Phagthingpa (Phagthingpa) and his three brothers, by Purong Lochung (Purong Lochung), Gnyos Lotsawa (Gnyos Lotsawa), and others. Among these, particularly the explanation tradition (or teaching tradition) transmitted by Purong Lochung (Purong Lochung) was excellent and endured for a long time. Jowoje (Atisha) bestowed (the teachings) upon Lochen Rinchen Zangpo (Lochen Rinchen Zangpo) and Rongpa Garge (Rongpa Garge), among others. The latter (Rongpa Garge) transmitted it to Yagde Zemarwa (Yagde Zemarwa), from whom explanation traditions and so forth arose. Jowoje (Atisha) also bestowed (the teachings) upon Nagtso Lotsawa (Nagtso Lotsawa). From his lineage, the tradition known as 'Balpang Nawa (Balpang Nawa) Tradition' also arose. Moreover, Sumtpa Lotsawa (Sumtpa Lotsawa) Dharma Yonten (Dharma Yonten), having relied upon Pandita Jayasena (Pandita Jayasena), received the explanation of the Chakrasamvara Dakini Ocean Tantra (Chakrasamvara Dakini Ocean Tantra) along with its auxiliary (teachings), and also made translations. In the land of Tibet, the empowerments, instructions, and explanation traditions of these (lineages) became extremely prevalent. As for other explanation tantra (lineages), although various empowerments and teaching instructions also arose, Marpa (Marpa) Dopa's (Dopa) tradition itself was exceptionally supreme. His students, such as the scholar Lodän (Lodän) from Gyamnam Dogzepa (Gyamnam Dogzepa) in Tsang (Gtsang) region, excellently nurtured the Dharma lineage, and the tradition of explanation and practice spread to all philosophical schools. Among these lineages, Butön Rinpoche (Butön Rinpoche) made a commentary on the root tantra and conduct, and this explanation tradition has remained in the virtuous (Dharma) aspect until now. Over twenty types of auxiliary empowerment instructions, the guidance of the three deities: Lu, Dril, and Nag (Lū, Dril, Nag sum), and many kinds of generation and completion stages of the Mother (Yum bka') also remain unbroken. In this regard, when explaining the great root tantra, the King of Mahayoga (Great Yoga) Tantras, which grants accomplishment merely by recitation, possesses extremely marvelous accomplishment rituals, and has been accomplished from the very beginning, according to the explanation tradition 'Revealing All Hidden Meanings' (Sbas don kun gsal) of Venerable Manjushri Nyingpo (Rje Jampal Nyingpo), whose wonderful and supreme wisdom and discernment on the profound points of Sutra and Tantra are unparalleled, firstly, the general sacred scriptures, and specifically the presentation of the Chakrasamvara Tantra. From that, when proceeding to the actual explanation of the abbreviated root tantra, (it is) encompassed by three points: by what oral instruction it is explained, in what manner it is explained, and the actual method of explanation. The first (point) is: Tantras are explained by other tantras, and by Bodhisattvas.

From the three ways of explanation: by commentary, and by following the oral instructions of the Guru, here it relies on the first and the third. Specifically, it relies on the root tantras, namely the uncommon tantra taught in the root tantra, the *Abhidhāna Vajraḍākinī Sdom 'byung kun spyod*, the common *Sambūṭi*, and the treatises of Lūyipa, Ḍombī Heruka, and Kṛṣṇācārya (Kanhapa) (the three black ones, referring to the three masters), combining the root and the commentary well, and is explained based on the oral instructions of glorious Nāropā. Second, it is the fifty-first chapter of the *Saṃputa Tantra* (Condensed Tantra), which contains the meaning of non-dual wisdom and means, combined with the true nature of each of the fifty vowels and consonants, and their general true nature. As explained in the introductory section (164b) of the *Nyuṃ ngüi rgyud* (Abbreviated Tantra) composed by the scholar Sumatikīrti, the first chapter presents a brief overview, chapters two to fifty provide detailed explanations, and the final chapter summarizes the meanings of these. The condensed meaning to be explained is arranged into six parts: empowerment and the instruction of its true nature; the extraction of mantras and the accomplishment of siddhis; the accomplishment of both siddhis (common and supreme) and the activities of male and female messengers; the companions on the path, samaya, and the practices that enhance progress; the four mudras, such as Mahāmudrā; and the condensed meaning of recognizing the signs of swift siddhi accomplishment. In due course, the connections of the stages of the path are also understood. Third, the actual method of explanation has four parts: the meaning of the title, the homage of the translator, the meaning of the treatise, and the meaning of engagement (or application). The meaning of the treatise has three parts: brief presentation, extensive explanation, and summary. The first part has four aspects: the commitment to explain the secret; the exhortation to listen to the secret; the method for perfecting the secret progression of the path; and the presentation of the place for secret accomplishment. These are explained literally and non-literally, forming the first chapter. The second part will be explained in the remaining forty-nine chapters. The third part, which is the fifty-first chapter, following the initial commitment to explain, has five aspects in its explanation: it shows that the oral instructions of this tantra are extremely difficult to obtain; it explains the fourteen methods for easy attainment; it clarifies the benefits of practicing these and the drawbacks of disbelief; it describes the method of meditation that encompasses these fourteen true natures; and it teaches the means to not abandon any of the Buddha's teachings. Among these, the fourteen true natures are: garments or abodes, the five mudras, and...
