All Buddhas explicitly teach/reveal. Because it is said thus, it should be kept secret from those of the Hearer, Solitary Realizer, and even Mahayana paths who are extremely unfortuitous. The ultimate body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas are called secret. This is also not a Buddha considered from the perspective of a single realm or a single disciple, but rather, the body of union that is the essence of all Buddhas gathered or assembled is called the Great Vajradhara or All-Buddhas. Because that is the ultimate state, the Guhyasamaja (Secret Assembly) Tantra, which is the expressive sound, is also the crown jewel of all tantras, as it is explained. The Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) with its commentary on the mind also became an explanation of the meaning of Guhyasamaja, and the Hevajra Tantra also leans towards Guhyasamaja, and the Chakrasamvara also clarifies the true nature of Guhyasamaja. --- The second part [Tantra of the Wrathful Class] is: There are five stages of Yamantaka. Desired attainments, various practices. Harmful ones, definite practices, and partial ones appeared. The Dharma cycle of Yamantaka appeared in the noble land (ancient India) in five stages: Not long after the third Buddhist council, the tantra of Yamantaka became prevalent, and for about two hundred years, it was the first period, the period of desired attainments, where thousands upon thousands of groups solely achieved the supreme siddhi of Mahamudra. The second period, that of accomplishing various practices, lasted for about three hundred years, and none of those who entered this mandala failed to achieve their aims; (160b) those who achieved supreme attainments were also extremely numerous. The third period, that of harmful ones, lasted for over five hundred years, and although many attained accomplishments, it was mainly through the forceful application of wrathful actions to gain power; Brahmins like Canḍaka appeared during this time. The fourth period, that of definite practices, was from the guru Lalitavajra to Kamalarakṣita, who definitely practiced the generation stage and its activities and achieved accomplishments. The fifth period, that of partial practices, is from then until now, and in the noble land (ancient India), it flourished for about one hundred years, from the six great pandits (mkhas pa sgo drug) to the time of Abhaya, and the accomplishment of activities was swift. After that, Red Yamantaka flourished, and Vajrabhairava...

Since the decline of the Dharma, it was as if barbarians (non-Buddhists) entered the central regions (of India), and thus, the supreme antidote to barbarians (non-Buddhists) is generally the Wrathful King Yamāntaka, and specifically the Great Vajrabhairava. Lalita, Yeshe, and Palzin, these three, Received the empowerments of the first, middle, and last, They are the Vajra Masters of the Great Mandala. Although it thus spread in five sequential periods, in the perception of common disciples, those who truly propagated the tantric empowerments and explanations were, firstly, Acharya Lalitavajra; in the middle, Buddha Yeshe Zhab (Buddhajñāna); and finally, the Brahmin Acharya Palzin. They successively received the Yamāntaka empowerments in the first, middle, and final modes. These three were named 'Great Mandala Vajra Acharyas.' Especially the Yamāntaka cycles, all gathered by Palzin and others, Successively transmitted, in this land (Tibet) the Tantra first arose. Particularly within the Yamāntaka cycles, the tantras and pith instructions (oral traditions) of the three fierce deities—Red, Black, and Terrifying (Red Yamāntaka, Black Yamāntaka, and Vajrabhairava)—converged like rivers. Transmitted successively through the great Acharya Palzin and others, they also arrived in Tibet in various forms. In this land (Tibet), it is said that the emanation king Songtsän Gampo performed practices, thus it is considered the earliest instance of Tantra appearing. Around the time when the monastic order flourished, the `Vajrabhairava-vijaya Tantra` was translated. Empowerments, explanations, pith instructions, and practices also emerged. Nubchen Sangye Yeshe extensively propagated the innumerable Yamāntaka teachings, through which many Vidyadharas (knowledge-holders) appeared, marking this as akin to the initial flourishing of the Tantric cycles. During the later propagation (of Buddhism), Chogdro, Nagtso, Rongzom, Gyal, And Ra, Kyo, Zhang, Nyos, were actual Mañjughosha. The tradition of Ra Lotsawa, in explanation and practice, is supreme. During the later propagation (Phyi Dar) of the Doctrine, firstly, Chogdro Lotsawa Sherab Lama translated the `Black Yamāntaka Tantra`, the two `Vajrabhairava Seven Chapters`, and the `Vajrabhairava 49 Deities Sādhana`, among others. He also propagated the empowerments and explanations of the three fierce deities: Enemy-faced (Dgra gdong, i.e., Vajrabhairava), and Terrifying ('Jigs byed, i.e., Vajrabhairava). Nagtso Lotsawa also listened to teachings from Jo Bo (Atisha) and Damtsig Dorje and others, and translated tantric commentaries. Empowerments and tantric explanations also spread widely from these. Rongzom Chökyi Zangpo, relying on Upaya Shri Mitra, translated the tantras of the two deities, Black (Yamāntaka) and Terrifying (Vajrabhairava), and so on.
