This is a treatise of the Prasangika school. Bhavya, having reviewed Buddhapalita's commentary, expressed refutations and newly established his own tradition. Chandrakirti refuted him (Bhavya) and maintained Buddhapalita's ancient tradition, thus the distinction known as the “two traditions” is made based on the manner in which the ultimate view is progressively generated. However, as fair-minded scholars have explained, there is no difference in how they conceive of the ultimate nature itself, for both are Madhyamaka Svatantrika. Indian treatises were propagated by teachers like Cog-ro and Ngog Lo. Phya-pa, the Eight Great Lions, Rongtön, and others, Maintained the Svatantrika tradition, including Pa-tshab's four sons. Opened the lineage of the treatises of Glorious Chandrakirti. The Snow Land's Prasangika speakers branched out from that. Here in Tibet, initially, Paṇḍita Jñānagarbha and Cog-ro Klu'i Rgyal-mtshan translated the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* and the *Prajñāpradīpa*. Relying on Śāntarakṣita's teachings, the system of teaching and listening to the Svatantrika tradition flourished. During the later propagation, Ngog Lotsawa Loden Sherab extensively taught treatises, primarily the *Prajñāpradīpa*, thereby widely spreading it. This lineage was upheld by the abbots of glorious Sangphu (Ganden Sangphu). In particular, the fifth abbot, Phya-pa Chos kyi Seng-ge, and his disciples Tsang Nagpa Tsondru Seng-ge, Danbagpa Mawai Seng-ge, Drusha Sonam Seng-ge, Majaba Tsödpa Seng-ge, Tsag Wangchuk Seng-ge, Nyangdran Chos kyi Seng-ge, Denma Könchog Seng-ge, and Nyälpa Yönten Seng-ge, who are known as the “Eight Great Lions.” Also, there appeared the Three Jowo Sons, the Three Wise Ones, the Three Accomplished Ones, and so forth. Among these, Tsang Nagpa and Majaba mostly followed Chandrakirti, while the others did not. Later, the Great Rongtön, the Lion of Speech (Mawai Seng-ge), also awakened the imprints of Kamalaśīla and, by virtue of his profound certainty in the Svatantrika view, elucidated its meaning. Some followers of these, as well as some Nyingma Dharma colleges and so forth, have maintained the Svatantrika tradition until now, but the lineage of its teachings did not firmly continue later on. As for the Prasangika, Pa-tshab Lotsawa traveled to Kashmir (Kashmīr), relying on Sajjanā's two sons and others, and studied for twenty-three years.

After performing (translation), the commentaries of Chandrakirti's works such as the *Madhyamakāvatāra*, *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*, and *Catuḥśataka* were translated into Tibet. These were well-established through teaching and listening. Among his disciples were Gangpa She'u, skilled in words; Tsangpa Dre-gur, skilled in meaning; Marja Jangtsön, skilled in both; and Shangtang Sakpa Yeshe Jungnay, skilled in neither, who were known as the "Patsab's Four Sons". Together with their disciples, they established the great tradition of teaching, debating, and composing based on the treatises of the glorious Chandrakirti, and all the Madhyamaka Prasaṅgikas of the Land of Snows (Tibet) originated from them. Especially the masters of speech who held the seat of Shangtang Sakpa himself, and the Jetsün (reverend masters) of the Sakya tradition and their followers, the great scholar Butön Rinchen Drub, Je Redawa, his disciple, the omniscient Je Rinpoche Lobsang Drakpa (150b) and his lineage, Gyalwang Mikyö Dorje and Kunkhyen Pema Karpo and their followers, and many other great scholars in Tibet upheld this tradition of explanation. The continuous practice of this tradition was also transmitted through the Jo-wo (Atiśa) father and son, and primarily flourished within the precious Kadampa tradition. Regarding the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* (Root Wisdom of the Middle Way), there are twenty-seven chapters, from the first chapter, 'Examination of Conditions' (*Pratyaya-parīkṣā*), to 'Examination of Views' (*Dṛṣṭi-parīkṣā*). The commentary on its meaning, the *Madhyamakāvatāra* (Introduction to the Middle Way), whose teaching tradition remains undiminished to this day, also establishes its structure in two parts: explaining the cause, the Bodhisattva stages (Bhūmis), and the result, the Buddha stages. The first (Bodhisattva stages) is divided into two: explaining the individual natures of the ten Bodhisattva stages (bhūmis), and collectively explaining the qualities of these stages. The first (explaining the individual natures of the ten bhūmis) has three points: briefly presenting the nature of the stages as the specific substratum, extensively explaining the qualities of the stages as the specific attributes, and summarizing the *Madhyamakāvatāra* through the exposition of the qualities of the stages. Regarding the explanation of the result, the Buddha stages, it is also summarized through five aspects: where enlightenment was attained, how enlightenment was attained, the nature of enlightenment—the establishment of the kāyas (Buddha bodies), explaining the three enlightenments with hidden meaning, and demonstrating the time of attaining enlightenment and residing (in the world). Among these, the meaning of Madhyamaka is clearly and extensively expounded through the sixth aspiration, the perfection of wisdom (Prajñāpāramitā). T2 Second part [How the other-empty view flourished]: Maitreya and Nāgārjuna, The last turning of the Dharma wheel (Tibetan: འཁོར་ལོ་ཐ་མ་, Devanagari: धर्मचक्रप्रवर्तन, Romanized Sanskrit: Dharma-cakra-pravartana, Chinese literal meaning: 转法轮), Elucidated by the four Dharma praise collections, Asanga (Tibetan: ཐོགས་མེད་, Devanagari: असङ्ग, Romanized Sanskrit: Asaṅga, Chinese literal meaning: 无系属) and his brother (Vasubandhu).
