The monastic lineage of the early Nyingma (Ancient Translation) practitioners, and the extensive explanations and practices propagated later by the great Lotsawa Dharma Sri, an emanation of Yudra Nyingpo, form the monastic tradition of Ogyen Mindroling Monastery, a unique ornament of snowy Tibet, and its branches (140b). During the later dissemination of the Dharma, most of the exalted predecessors who were diligent in upholding the Vinaya, and most of the virtuous spiritual friends of both the old and new Kadam traditions, also dedicated themselves to this monastic lineage. Many exceptional Vinaya holders like Gya Düldzin, Matso Jangdor, Ja Düldzin, Shami Mönlam Dorje, and others, as well as the great Lotsawa Rinchen Zangpo, Putowa, Puchungpa, Sharawa, Ngok Lotsawa Lodan Sherab, Dre Sherab Bar, Gampopa (Dagpo Lharje), Drokön Phagmo Drupa, Chomden Rigral, and numerous other renowned exalted beings appeared continuously. --- Chapter 2: The Kashmiri Tradition The monastic lineage of Panchen's two glorious disciples, Along with the tradition, has flourished until now. Kashmiri Pandita Shakya Shri, renowned as an emanation of Rabgsal, the third future Buddha, mastered all sutras and tantras and beheld many Yidam deities. He personally practiced the twelve purified qualities and became the chief among all Vinaya holders of that time. It was widely proclaimed that even offering alms to him once would lead to rebirth in the Trayastrimsha (Heaven of the Thirty-Three). While he resided in India, Dpyal Lotsawa Chökyi Zangpo and Chag Drachom from Tibet, among others, received full ordination from him. The Panchen himself was invited to Tibet by Tropu Lotsawa Jampal, and immeasurable Dharma activities ensued. At Chushul Sogma Monastery, eleven individuals received full ordination in one day, among whom Droshul Khergad Jangchub Pal and Tsangpa Dorje Pal became the chief preceptor's disciples. Jangchub Pal established Gendün Gang, and Dorje Pal established Nyemo Tsalmik. These two had disciples Umdzé Sönam and Könchok Gyaltsen, who established four assemblies including Chölung and Jiedzing, thus giving rise to what was called the "Four Congregations" (141a), which flourished from then on. Furthermore, in the Tsuklakhang of Nyangtö Gyen Gong, Jamyang Sakya Pandita received full ordination, leading to its widespread propagation.

And, particularly concerning the two "Pal" (Glorious) lineages: the Bodhisattva Pal (Byang chub dpal ba) vow lineage was successively received by the Omniscient Karmapa (Karma pa); and the Vajra Pal (rDo rje dpal ba) vow lineage was received by Ngorchen Vajradhara Kunga Zangpo (Ngor chen rDo rje 'chang Kun dga' bzang po). Consequently, these have flourished and spread in the Karma Kagyu (Kar lugs pa) and Sakya (Sa lugs pa) traditions up to the present day. The Sakya Pandita (Sa pan) vow lineage was later expanded through the activities of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama (rGyal dbang lnga pa chen po). However, the Cholungpa (Chos lung pa) and Jedzingpa (Bye rdzhing pa) vow lineages appear to no longer exist today. Generally, although the vow lineages of the four monastic communities (tshogs sde bzhi) in their own monasteries may have ceased, they continued to flourish through other transmissions. From these vow lineages, countless renowned masters and accomplished scholars emerged during the period of the Later Dissemination (phyi dar). In particular, during the age of contention, the Omniscient Buton Rinchen Drub (Bu ston Rin chen grub) and the peerless master Je Rinpoche Lobzang Drakpa (rJe rin po che Blo bzang grags pa) and his disciples, through their exceptionally profound explanations and practices of the sacred Dharma of Vinaya (dam chos 'dul ba), caused it to spread throughout the vast land. --- Chapter 3: The Third, the Upper Vinaya. The lineage of Pāla, known as the Upper Vinaya, also emerged. After Langdarma (gLang dar ma) suppressed the doctrine, although Tibet was fragmented, in the upper Ngari (mNga' ris) region (modern-day: western Tibet), when a semblance of political power from the royal lineage was established, at the beginning of the Later Dissemination of the Doctrine (bstan pa phyi dar), Lhalama Yeshe-Ö (lHa bla ma Ye shes 'od) invited the Paṇḍita Dharmapāla (paṇḍi ta dharma pā la) from the Noble Land, India ('phags yul). He then ordained many individuals, including the three Pālas, causing them to receive full ordination. From this, Prajñāpāla's (prajñā pā la'i) spiritual son (mkhan bu) was Zhangzhung Gyalwai Sherab (Zhang zhung rgyal ba'i shes rab). He consulted with many Paṇḍitas, and in particular, from the Nepalese (bal po) Vinaya holder Pretakā (pre ta ka) (141b), he diligently studied all Vinaya practices. From Kashmir (kha che) Jñānashīla (jñā na shī la), he received the commentary on the Pratimokṣa Sūtra, the *Vinaya Saṃgraha* ('dul ba bsdus pa). From Kashmir (kha che) Shrī Subhūti Shānta (shrī su bhu ti shān ta), he received the root text and commentary of the *Three Hundred Verses* (sum brgya pa). From Samantashrījñāna (sa man ta shrī jñā na), he thoroughly listened to the *Fifty Verses* (kā ri kā lnga bcu pa) and the *Two Inquiries* (lo dri ba gnyis), and through revisions, translations, and explanations, he established them well. The translator (lo tsā ba) Paljor (dpal 'byor), a disciple from Zhangzhung (Zhang zhung ba), received the *Fifty Verses of a Bhikṣu* (dge slong gi kā ri kā) from Jayakara (ja ya ka ra) of Nepal (bal po), and the *Sūtras on the Basis of Novice Vows* (dge tshul gyi bslab pa'i gzhi mdo) from Varahita (ba ra hi ta) and Mahājana (ma hā ja na) of Kashmir (kha che), and from them, the lineage was transmitted in succession. --- In summary, the lineage of Pāla, known as the Upper Vinaya, did not spread very widely.
