He composed approximately fifty treatises and personally authored eight *Prakaraṇas*. He established six hundred and fifty-four Dharma bases (monasteries/religious foundations). The Mahayana bhikshus reached sixty thousand, and so on, extensively performing the activities of the Dharma. According to the aforementioned scripture, some Han and Tibetan scholars believe him to be a Bodhisattva of the eighth bhumi. Among his disciples, four were more learned than himself, and furthermore (126b), the Lord of Speech Konchok Bang (Ratnadāsa), Dulwa Lha (Vinayadeva), Chandragomi, Dharmapala, and many other accomplished and learned individuals continuously emerged, thus widely spreading the teachings of the Buddha. The eight *Prakaraṇas* personally authored by the Master are: the *Thirty Verses on Consciousness Only* (Trimśikā) which explains all dharmas as mind-only; the *Twenty Verses on Consciousness Only* (Viṃśatikā) which proves it logically; the *Five Aggregates* (Pañcaskandhaka Prakaraṇa) which explains the rationality of the five aggregates as its basis; the *Logic of Exposition* (Vyākhyāyukti) which explains the rationality of such teaching and listening; and the *Treatise on the Accomplishment of Karma* (Karmasiddhiprakaraṇa) which explains the rationality of the actions of the three gates (body, speech, mind). These are the five works he composed independently. Additionally, there are the *Sutra-alaṃkāra* (Mahāyāna-sūtrālaṃkāra) which explains the vast practices such as the six perfections, the twelve interdependent originations, and the rationality of the three natures; the *Sutra on Dependent Origination*; and the commentaries on the three treatises: *Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes* (Madhyāntavibhāga), these three are his commentaries on others' works, making a total of eight, as stated. Some argue that since this Master composed many commentaries on the *Dasabhūmika Sutra* and other works, the number "eight treatises" is not definite. Others say that the number of twenty dharmas related to Maitreya is also not definite. Those who determine the number consider the five treatises on the bhumis (Sa sde lnga), the two treatises on monastic vows (sDom gnyis), the five Maitreya dharmas (Byams chos lnga), and the eight treatises (rab tu byed pa sde brgyad), totaling twenty dharmas. The lords of wisdom, Dignāga and Dharmakīrti, stated: Illumining the path of epistemology, they vanquished evil disputants. The two lords of wisdom, in the *Kālachakra Tantra*, said: "Dignāga, possessing the mind of benefiting others, is the sprout of the moon-lotus." And it is said: In the *Mañjuśrī-mūla-kalpa Tantra*, it is said: "He who is named by the letter 'dhā', a diligent keeper of vows, Shall be widely proclaimed in the southern direction. Having overcome hostile disputants, Likewise, the diligent keeper of vows' mantra shall also be accomplished." Dignāga, the disciple of Asaṅga and Vasubandhu, who was prophesied in this way and was more learned than them in epistemology, directly received teachings from Mañjuśrī. He extensively expounded numerous sutras and also widely disseminated the Abhidharma (127a)

He accomplished. With his unique intrinsic power, he composed many scattered treatises on logic. Later, desiring to compile them into one collection, by the auspicious sign of writing an offering eulogy, he inspired and defeated in debate the one named 'Black Brahmin'. Afterwards, he perfectly composed more than a hundred treatises, such as the *Pramāṇavārttika* (Treatise on Valid Cognition), both early and later works. The tradition of valid cognition was first clarified. Many decaying foundations of the Dharma were restored, and numerous new ones were established. He was renowned as a great champion of debate and subdued most of the evil attackers who spoke falsely through debate. With a multitude of disciples filling all directions, he made the Dharma shine brightly. Dharmakirti (Chos kyi grags pa) initially studied valid cognition from Ishvarasena, a disciple of Dignaga. The glorious Heruka bestowed upon him the siddhi (accomplishment) of victory over all directions. He defeated in debate all the renowned champions of debate among the non-Buddhists and countless Brahmins, bringing all of them into this Dharma. He established the Dharma foundations and monastic communities throughout all lands. He also composed many treatises, such as the *Seven Treatises on Valid Cognition*. In short, Dharmakirti himself said: If the sun of Dharmakirti's speech Should set, The Dharmas will sleep or die, And the non-Dharmas will then arise. As it was said, he (Dharmakirti) is the unparalleled single sun of the Dharma. In short, the Six Ornaments of Jambudvipa, the four great ones, And the two marvelous ones, etc., as prophesied by the Victorious One, The accounts of their lives in upholding the Dharma are immeasurable. In short, from the time the perfectly enlightened Buddha appeared in the world in the noble land (India), until the later destruction of the Vikramashila monastery by barbarians, among the continuously appearing exceptionally learned and accomplished individuals who were as famous and prominent as the sun and moon (127b) were: The masters Nagarjuna, Asanga, and Dignaga—these three were the authors of treatises; Aryadeva, Vasubandhu, and Dharmakirti—these three were the commentators. They are renowned as the 'Six Ornaments' that adorn Jambudvipa. And the four great masters: Virya, Rahula Bhadra, Gunaprabha, and Dharmapala. And the two marvelous masters: Shantideva and Chandragomi. Furthermore, there is Shakyaprabha, etc.
